Picture quality can't compare to more expensive units, but this is a great deal for anyone on a budget. 3 year warranty is nice too.

I recently bought the 32" version of this AWA LCD TV from Big W and was impressed with the picture quality compared to many of the lower end (but much more expensive) brand name LCD TVs I looked looked at. the 3 year warranty is nice.

  • 1500:1 contrast ratio sounds kinda low - but I recall something about contrast being measured in at least 2 ways - 1 which yields a much lower number than the other???

    • That's true - the "dynamic" contrast most specs list is the one with the huge number. I get the feeling the contrast listed for this AWA screen isn't the dynamic contrast.

I've seen this screen at my local Big-W, but I wasn't impressed at all - they sit there playing AFL in SD, but it's really bad… But so are all the other screens. :( So I think their source is horrid. Might have to get them to plug in a Blu-Ray or something to really test it out.

      • Precisely, not every screen will upscale SD content nicely. I think Samsung & Pana do a good job of upscaling SD content.

  • Is this lcd or plasma? Can you add it to the title please.

    • LCD. There's only 1 42" 1080p Plasma and it it's nearly double what this costs.

  • 2 HDMI inputs~~~that is poor~

Why? I assume it also has component, VGA and other inputs.

TCL 42" FULL HD LCD $1100 at Binglee, $100 more you will get better brand and quality, 6000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio, 3 x HDMI

      dynamic vs static contrast ratio.

      Better brand? debatable.

i even can't find AWA's website, TCL is not an unknown brand at least

        • AWA do rebadges on various manufacturers TVs, just have a look at the model number on the back, google it & you'll find who actually makes the set! ;)

FWIW, I've got the older model AWA 42" LCD (1366x768 KTV rebadge) and it's been going like a champion for two years now, can't fault it! Maybe AWA actually put a bit of thought into their purchasing, who knows, but I'm happy with mine! :)

        • Tried AWA.com.au ? But it won't help because they have not made TVs for decades. They don't make or sell anything, just services.
Its a Zombie brand (dead but still moving), licensed by Woolworths. So it is like "Home Brand" - you only see it at Woolies-owned shops. Just like Dick Smith the man no longer runs the shops.

        • Your google-fu is weak today.

          AWA's website is awa.com.au

Some of their TVs are made by THTF:

Hmm I'll take AWA over TCL any day. TCL blows….

The best cheap 42" LCD's are the Aldi Bauhn ones - unfortunately they only have them every blue moon

They have everything this has and more - including 100hz…

  • was going to get this but went with the 42" Hisense LCD full HD instead got it for 1570, it has three year warranty in home replacement so if anything goes wrong they just come out with a replacement and swap them over no worries.

no one else can match that. plus the panel looks pretty nice.

  • Currently a further $100 off at Big W Echuca. Bargain.
