A Top Rated iOS Game FREE Every Weekday for 2 Weeks (Day 5: The Journey Down: Chapter One)

1180

Throughout December, we've been counting down the days until Christmas with a special advent calendar that recommends one free game a day.

But as we close in on Christmas we want to step it up a notch. So, we've been working with the developers behind Pocket Gamer's favourite, top-rated games of 2014 to make an awesome iOS game go free for 24 hours, every day for two weeks.

That's ten premium iPhone and iPad games we highly recommend, that you can get for nothing. Just check back in to Pocket Gamer every week day from December 8th to December 19th to get your new gift.

We want to thank every developer who generously agreed to be part of this bonkers promotion. Just remember to recommend their app to your friends if they unwrap a smartphone or tablet later this month!

  • Not every day but every weekday, so 10 games in total instead of 14.

    • Cheers alvian. Title corrected.

Thanks TA for your tireless and freakish skill in bargain hunting. All I could offer in return are minor corrections.

    Cool. Thanks TA.

Do we think Apple is going to have a similar giveaway thing as they did last year? I think it had an app that would offer you a free movie, song, or game for 12 days of Xmas. One of the gifts was Home Alone, if I recall correctly.

  • Thanks TA, you really do fine the best freebies.

  • Thanks TA.

    Tuesday it's HOPLITE

    https://itunes.apple.com/app/id782438457

The game almost plays like a grid-based puzzler. You're the titular Hoplite, and need to work your way through 16 levels of procedurally generated dungeon to snatch an enchanted fleece. Then get back out again.

That's much easier said than done when every slice of the dungeon is populated with monsters and foes that want to bash your brains in.

You need to consider each of your moves carefully. Do you jump, spending some energy, and whomp that archer, or try and avoid its arrows and take out another soldier instead?

However I could only download free via my US account. (2.99 Australian iTunes) as I missed the midnight deadline here in Oz

My guess is that there is a window that starts at the UK day start, when they publish the link so we know which program to download, and the end of day here in Oz to download from the Australian store.

    i.e. 11 am to Midnight

    • Yeah not free on the Australian store.

  • Damn! Seconds too slow for the first deal! :(

to be clear: they're free in the Canada/US but not Australian App Store

Shadow Blade was free on the Australian store.

  • Hop lite is not free.

Day 3: Doug dug. Free on iTunes Aus & US at time of writing.

    • Thanks alvian. Post updated.

    • Damn it not free anymore. Was it free for an hour in Australia?

      • +1

Sorry, I do not know when it reverted to a pay app in iTunes Aus. I suggest we check the pocketgamer deal link at 10pm, 11pm and 12am tonight to confirm. I spotted the Doug dug announcement at 11pm yesterday and it was free on iTunes Aus.

    Day 4
    THE NIGHTMARE COOPERATIVE

    http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/Pocket+Gamer+Advent+Ca…

Not sure what time this was posted but checked at 9:20pm

    • Still free on the Australian store at the moment.

      • Still free on iTunes Aus at 2:20am. There is no logic to this. I am going to sleep to meet the Nightmare Cooperative. Goodnight.

  • hmmmm bit frustrating this - can't get nightmare any more and it's the only one I've wanted so far

    • Get a US account - its easy just Google it, or search here

      And still free!

      • Yes, the first one I actually got. Screenshots remind me of Grim Fandango.

Damn! I wouldn't like to think I missed out on those too!

    • Is this one of their free games as the next deal is not due until the 15th and this doesnt show on the links?

  • Day 6: Detective Grimoire. Confirmed free on iTunes Aus 11:15pm.

    • Not any more. It says free for 24 hours in the description which wouldn't have been the case in Australia.
