  • And I literally just paid him via Paypal today for this …

Dont worry … I have refunded all Paypal payments for this phone.

Bagman … u need to listen us. I sent 15 customers to you but when my turn came u gave up…. :(

  • Now I am stuck - a Telstra Nokia Lumia phone and nowhere to go.

The nice people at Telstra must be snooping on OzBargain.

  • Same here. I've got 3 Nokia 530s locked to Telstra now :(

  • I'm also stuck with 2 530's and needing to unlock

  • Has anyone found another reliable source to unlock these? I bought one for my grandmother, and it's useless to her locked to telstra!!

  • +1

In the same boat. And i had the phone for two weeks now and i was waiting to unlock it together with the huawei y550, and finally i do it and it can't be done anymore. This is the type of luck i have…
Oh and i got the code for y550 within 10 min from processing the imei so thumbs up to bagman.

  • This is a disaster… Bagman any suggestions?

  • Ok. I've found this site which does it for USD24.99 —> https://www.safeunlockcode.com

Seem to have some good reviews.

Personally I'll wait a little to see if anything new happens the next few days, but if any of you are game to give them a go, please report back for the rest of us :)

    • cant do it.. got a refund from them today

  • Hi, just bought the Nokia Lumia, but my aldi sim is too big for it!!!
My sim is more than a year old, do aldi make them smaller now???
Even if I can get it unlocked I can't use it with my current aldi sim.
    Any suggestions???

ETA. Sorry, just worked out I can make the sim I am using smaller to fit the lumia. I hope I can unlock it!!!!

    • yes they do.. or you can cut it.. google plz..

  • OK, you won't like it as it twice the price but it seems that http://www.sydneyunlocking.com.au/ will do it for $29 (they had a previous deal on OZ for $16 - maybe someone can convince them to do another deal).
I will just go with the half price Boost sims - no unlocking required apparently.

    • +1

Just sent them a PM ;) Will post back if I hear anything

      • can't wait to see the responds.

        • Not liking our chances… I've been trying to call them all afternoon but the line is consistently unavailable.

        • Just received the following response. Boooo….

          Hi,

Sorry we can't unlock this phone at the moment.

          Thanks,

          David

  • Telstra will do it for $25 but I do not want to give the any more money if I can avoid it.

    • +1

Can you give us more info on how you got to that amount? Someone on another thread said they called Telstra and the unlocking fee was $100.

      • +1

Yep, they just told me $100

    • Ah, another $25. I guess we'll have to pay this at least to get the phone work.

  • I called them and said I was going abroad and taking the phone as a gift. They waanted me to pay by cc and I was waiting forever so hung up as I was at work

    • I actually bought my phones for a charity in Nepal. Telstra wouldn't budge from $100 though. The CSR was very helpful and apologetic but couldn't do anything for me.

      • can't help you there sorry - maybe I just got a CSR who was feeling charitable on the day.

or perhaps someone in Nepal would be able to unlock if for a fair few rupees less than Telstra?

  • From what i read Telstra aint that bad if you do the Telstra tricks.. Don't have a link. But i will try to summarize the half a page how-to-guide in 3 bullet points.

    1) Recharge on longlife then switch to simplicity plan. You get to keep the long expiratory but with cheap simplicity plan call rates.
    2) (optional - requires a dual sim phone or 2 phones. Recommended for heavy users) Activate a 2nd prepaid plan with funny money and regular call credit. Transfer regular call credit from the one with funny money to the longlife plan with Telstras credit2me. This lets you maximize your call credit beyond 30 days on the 2nd prepaid plan.
3)(optional) Each time your simplicity plan is about to expire switch back to longlife plan and repeat from step 1

  • sad..
i bought a couple of lumias in the first WW deal..
traveling by end of this month..

    Bagman,
is there any pointers for someone who can do this

  • Bought this phone 2 weeks ago. I knew I shouldn't of waited. :(

  • Looks like mine's going back. I cant find anywhere reliable to unlock this phone.

  • I had a chat with them, after one year of activation the unlock is free. Might as well just leave it somewhere

    • How do they know how long you had the phone for? Or do you need to activate the SIM that came with the phone? Cause after 6 months without recharge, wouldn't the SIM get deleted

    • just spoke to telstra, they said usually after 2 years not 1

  • Although bagman would have made a killing from all the unlock codes for the 530, im not sure why everyone is in a rush to unlock. Telstra will unlock it for you for something like $27.50 after 6 months and u can use telstra credit to do this

The phone comes with $10 telstra credit plus with all the telstra $30 starter kit deals on lately, you could stay on telstra for 6 months quite easily and have stored $27.50 in credit (otherwise just source another $30 starter kit!)

    • The phone comes with $10 credit? How to find it ? I activated it with prepaid long life plan and its showing $0 credit ?

      • +1

The $10 that comes with the phone is a bit special from reading the fine print. It has an expiry period of only 14 days.

  • +2

After 1 or 2 years, this phone is archaic except as MP3 player for some.

I tried [bagman] plus 2 others, one off ebay, and the other some random google ad who right now is probably using my IMEI on their stolen phones. None can unlock the 530. I tried sweet talking telstra for a free unlock, things were going well until I mention torture porn, WHAT? then they said $100 to unlock. I am half tempted to turn to the darkside (use telstra starter kits) but this means telstra kinda wins (how un-ozbargainish). If anyone finds a way to unlock please HOLLER !!! Awesome phone for $40, even better when my amaysim sim goes into it.

  • On ebay these phones are $60, sell it and then buy another cheaper phone from vodafone as their unlock fee are very cheap

  • +1

waiting to unlock my 2 lumias as well,
bagman please bring some good news to ozbargainers .

  • I'm looking to buy one. As a fellow ozbargainer, I'll gladly get one of one of you. It doesn't matter to me if its lock to Telstra as I'm with boost and will continue to be with them as they are the only one with good coverage at my workplace.

    • guystingy, I have a spare one (that unfortunately is locked to Telstra and bagman can't unlock anymore) that is still brand new and sealed in the box. Please PM me if you're interested. I'm in Sydney so I'm sure we can arrange something.

  • Damn it i bought mine friday sent my details to another place they could not unlock it for me :(

  • Hello

Can one person please post there Imei and I'll see if a contact can do it.

I will wear the cost of the test one,

    One only

    • I sent you a pm please check it thanks

  • Ok we have a winner.

    • so it works? post details. I got one waiting for unlock

  • OK guys we wait with baited breath as I have a few as rather crappy chrissy presents now that I cant unlock….. Please spread the good news!!

  • Can roshanrbb confirm his/her Nokia Lumia 530 is now unlocked?

If so, @ilostnemo, please let us ozbargainers know the how/where/cost.

I bought one which I like to get unlocked.

    Much appreciated.

          cheers

        • @roshanrbb: hi, can you pls let us know did u have any chance to get ur phone unlocked?

        • @Itsondnet: hello
I am still looking to unlock my phone. Ilostnemo hasn't ccontacted me yet. I will let you know if anything shows up.

Is there any way to use the Woolies deal to get a $30 sim pack for a dollar and then unlock the phone in six months using the $30 credit (ie for $25.00)?

    • You may want to ask directly as there has been mixed reports, someone rang them the other day and was told 24 months…. Others have said they thought it was six months. Not sure if its that fluid or if its differs on what plan you are on or phone

      • +1

If you ask Telstra right now, you have to fork around $100 to get it unlock, after 6 months it's $27.5. After 2 years it's free.

    • I bought the phone on 21 Dec but $30 sim packs were all sold out. I checked other stores, out of stock as well. I rang woollies' national customer care line, she checked all city stores and southern suburbs, Marrickville, Wolli Creek, Rockdale, Kogarah, Campsie, all out. She says the deal is until 31 Dec, but as long as the stock lasts. Hope Bagman can be back able to unlock soon.

      • It appears that its possible. I got a $30 sim pack from Woolies gas works last night for $1. I have activated and will just wait the six months. PITA but at least then I can unlock the phone for $1.

ETA - I took the long life option with the pre paid plan. Thusly, credit lasts for six months. Presumably, if I transfer credit between now and when the phone is six months old it will still be there when I go to unlock the phone.

        • This is what I am planning to do as well.
However, how does Telstra determine the 6 months? When I activated the SIM it never asked about a phone.
I assume it is not the SIM account age, otherwise you could get a friend to put their Telstra SIM in it and unlock for free (If they have been with Telstra for years)
Maybe it from the first time Telstra see the phone on their network?
I can't seem to find any details about this in any posts or on their site.

        • @whitcut: I called Telstra on Sunday. They quoted me $100 for now and $27.5 in six months. She also mentioned, Telstra will know from the phone's IMEI number. So you're right, it's not the SIM account, it's the phone!

        • I think many people are like me, focusing on Woolies supermarkets only. Thanks for the suggestion!

        • I googled 'Woolworths Gasworks' and found out it's in Queensland. No wonder I've been in Sydney 6 years but never heard of it. Too bad that Sydney's got too many people. :(

        • @agneszjq: does that mean I have to turn the phone on I wonder? Because I havent turned it on but I have activated the sim card.

ETA - ah crap, I need to turn the phone on. Youre right they go off when the IMEI pops up on their network. S***.

ETA again, ah jesus I have been waiting six months on a voda phone to unlock it, Christ I have wasted all this time.

If anyone in Cairns wants one unlocked I have one I got unlocked by bagman before he stopped doing it. I wont be using it after all. Phone + unlocking = $55.00.

Was only fired up to unlock. Box, SIM, everything included.

  • I got one today from Wolli Creek NSW. (Sydney)She says she has a few.

    • The review's OK. You have to register and pay first. I've registered, waiting on a confirmation email with a link to activate my account. Haven't received it yet.
I wanna see the payment details page. It says on the website that you can pay by paypal. Is paypal very protective of cardholders? As long as I claim I didn't receive the product/services, or service is not up to standard (in this case the code doesn't work), I can get my money back, right? BTW, since when Paypal started to charge 4% credit card surcharge?

      • As a buyer PayPal has been good to me (No Fee) but as a seller its not as good because they charge you fee. I have had a few cases about not receiving my product through eBay and PayPal ended up refunded me every time. I'm not sure about 4% credit surcharge tho because I don't get charged surcharge for my credit card.

BTW It will cost $24 to unlock any Telstra Locked Phone (Except iPhone) but I'm not that desperate to get mine unlock yet so I would to know if anyone has done it through this website.

        • Still no email today. Yes, I am desperate and $24 is about reasonable to me. Things to notice is, I went into some other website yesterday, got something called Master Code for free. Of course I wouldn't hang much hope on free stuff but still wanted to try out. Following unlockmyfone.net, I took out the SIM card and typing on dial board, just couldn't type letter 'p' or 'w' using dial board, even though instruction says quickly hit the * key 3 times for 'p' and 4 times for 'w'. Googled a lot and couldn't do it in the end. Any one knows how?

        • @agneszjq: Please let us know if you get a working code from them as I am considering trying them also. Cheers

        • @agneszjq:
I haven't used Lumia530, but generally on touch screen phones/keyboards, you have to press and hold * and # button to get p and w. Hope this helps.

        • @agneszjq: Did you get your phone unlocked???

        • @shaktipatro: No,unlockmyfone.net did not set up my account. Meanwhile, I got a spare phone to use. I'll probably have to wait till 6 months later. For iPhone users, Nokia Lumia takes some time to get used to. Plus the screen does not work well under bright sunlight. Seriously, I don't know where to look for people who can unlock right now. 6 months wait. Stick a Telstra SIM card in and leave it on, get by using your old phone, is my choice.

        • @shaktipatro: I was tidying up my mail box today and unlockmyfone.net.au did send me a confirmation email. Was sorted by gmail as junk. However, I forgot my password and/or login name. I'll have to remember them tomorrow. Meanwhile, I need to ask them how to type 'p' and 'w'. quick taps and long press don't work.

  • Anybody has any luck in unlocking within $25, so far I know is $40 which I feel is more expensive.

    • Who do you know that can unlock for $40? From what I've seen only Telstra can unlock now, no one else can do it no matter how much you offer.

  • +1

    Hi guys,

I called Telstra prepaid customer care today. I am having a Telstra broadband internet and landline for last 4 years.

I was asked to pay $100 for unlocking the phone as I activated on 31st December 2014. Finally with nice talk and using my good history I convinced them.

    The Deal

    Recharge prepaid mobile for $100
They will take that $100 for unlocking fees
Then my broadband account will be credited with $100

So finally I ended up paying nothing for unlocking.

    Good luck guys

    • +1

Thanks for the update. Problem is I have zero services with Telstra. Haha

      • +1

I think many of us are in the save boat. I just came for the $40 phone

  • Not sure why people are so obsessed with these phones, I got one and got it unlocked by bagman. Then it ended up in my drawer, totally useless compared to my 79 bucks Huawei G526 which unlocked for free, and 4G. So sold it on Gumtree for 60. One positive thing though was the 3 months unlimited Skype.

  • Is unlocking an Optus 530 any easier atleast?

  • Should be easy enough to unlock an Ootus if you meet their prepaid unlocking requirements. Sometimes you have to contact their social media team to request an unlock code which I've done many times with other brands of smartphones.

    • They're $79 at Officeworks. Save all this headache.
