Foxtel Installation for 2nd Room

hi,
I was just looking at getting a second box for my foxtel box. I used to have a second box in my bedroom, it's wired and ready to go. All I need is the box, there's no actual installation to do.

Foxtel are quoting me $150 installation. does that sound right?

Is it easy to get this waived?

Doesn't sound reasonable to me - the installer doesn't need to do anything except plug the box in.

  • Have you explained this to them and they still said no? Could they not just send out a box free of charge?

I would threaten to cancel your subscription if they don't do it for free.

Foxtel are pretty desperate to hold on to customers at the moment, apart from sport (and a few locally produced drama and reality programs) they have nothing to offer that can't be had anywhere else. Even then, a lot of it is available on streaming services or FTA.

There's a lot of savings to be had by cutting that cord, but I can understand if you want to keep it, just don't let them bend you over backwards in this day and age when it's so easy and tempting to walk away from them.

  • Got an offer in the mail the other day (ex Foxtel Customer) regarding rejoining. With regards to the install fee, tt was $150 for them to install, or $50 for a self install. Still seemed a bit steep to have the box delivered and then I plug it in. But appears the option for a self install is there.

When I had my 2nd box connected I didn't pay any extra for installation. Foxtel are really under the pump now that Netflix has announced they are coming. I recently had $50 a month knocked off my plan because I told them I wasn't happy with the value and wanted to disconnect. 3 phone calls from different reps later and I was offered a decent enough deal to stay. Tell them to install the 2nd room for free which will net them an extra $10 a month or you walk, just be prepared to stick to your guns.

  • Around the beginning of November 2014 Foxtel reduced the price of it's basic package from $50 to $25. This is in place for all new customers. Existing customers were given extra features in a bid to keep them at the old price. If you are an existing Foxtel customer and want an instant $25 price reduction then carefully evaluate what the extras are that they are offering and if they aren't useful then phone and insist on a price reduction. Warning: they will want to put you on a 12 month contract.

    • I managed to get the 12 month contract waived when I did my bargaining

  • If you have an active account at the property and you say that you have the point ready to go Foxtel would send you a self install kit at $25 NOT $50. There is no reason for them to send out a technician to your place to plug in a box when you claim you already have the connection point. A tech install will cost $75 NOT $150 and i can absolutely assure you it costs Foxtel far more than $75 to get a tech to your place. My advice -simply call up and ask for a multiroom box to be sent out as a self install kit.

To the other comments - Foxtel isn't all that stressed about Netflix, especially the australian version. There is absolutely no competitor that can even come close to matching the service offerings and the quality of foxtel. The price drop recently had nothing to do with netflix etc. and more to do with getting to product out to the next level of customer. If you know anything about marketing you will know that there are different levels of price conscious consumers and this is the marketing effort at the lower level buyer.

If you have foxtel and you dont feel like you are getting good value - ring up, BE POLITE! and they will happily work with you to build a package that fits your budget.

I avoided getting a 2nd box and just use foxtel play in the other rooms in the house! No full HD is a bummer though with play.
