Sony has pulled "The Interview" movie from theatres after some large US cinema chains were dropping the movie from their screens.

How much are you now willing to pay to watch this movie?

I wouldnt say taking precautions for the safety & protection of their employee's & Brand is letting the Terrorists win. Sony were faced with a situation where losing far out weighed the rewards of winning. More probably is the movie is terrible and used this an a plausible reason not to air it and the publicity for being selfless is worth more than releasing a POS movie.

I don't think we should ever give into terrorist threats - especially the, more than likely, empty threats of NK.

If anything it just shows that NK actually do have some power over us.

Anyway, hopefully the movie gets even more publicity as a result of this.

After watching "this is the end" the real question is how much would I pay to not see this movie?

This was a dumb idea right from the start. Sure, North Korea is the laughing stock of the entire world, but making a movie about an assassination of a living person is still morally questionable. The US would be up in arms if someone made a movie about the assassination of Obama.

There's been plenty of movies made about US Presidents' demise. Air Force one for example.
But to make a farcical denegrading movie about a particular "current" named leader could be seen as a form of terrorism, which is also on your Public Enemy #1 list of countries is poor judgement.
Imagine if a copy got into NK ! The people might believe it's truth.

Reminds me of Salman Rushdie "The Satanic Verses" who had to hide from Iran for years.
I think the actors of The Interview" might be laying low right now.

Well done Sony - though a little late.

      • There's been plenty of movies made about US Presidents' demise. Air Force one for example.

There's a difference though - that movie is based on a fictional US president, I don't remember his name, but it wasn't a real US president.

This movie is not only based on a real leader, but also uses his name…etc. In effect, I agree with you, it's extremely poor judgement by Sony. They wanted to make a quick buck and profit off the interest of the general public in seeing something like this and having a laugh about it. It backfired big time.

  • I'm not upset that they've succumb to the threats.
The movie seems pretty disrespectful, it's clear the Guardians Of Peace don't want it to be shown for the sake of public views of their country.

  • I want more saucy email leaks, I can't stop laughing at the Angelina Jolie and Sony exec meeting up post leak

  • No idea how credible the threats were. But I doubt DPRK would carry out attacks on the cinema going public in the USA let alone South Korea over this movie. So Sony just gave in to the threats if they weren't really that credible from a specific organisation. Lots of teens make silly hoax threats all the time via all sorts of mediums. So many threats and very few if any ever eventuate.

How many real attacks have come after threats? Actual specific threats. That's just dumb. Empty threats are just that.

It just draws more attention to it. So once Sony finally releases it again in 3 months it'll be a smash hit.

Never liked crappy actors, of which Seth Rogen is on the bad dozen list (Sandler, Ferrell, Vaughn, Wilson, Jonah Hill etc) so didn't plan on seeing this but now it just makes me want to.

Team America by South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker made fun of Kim Jong Il whilst he was still alive.

Last Dictator was similar to Muammar Khadaffi. Then again Libya didn't have nukes.

I'm not sure if you're aware that it's not just empty threats. This group has already successfully hacked into Sony's servers, stolen terabytes of data including personal details about Sony executives as well as actors, as well as personal emails within Sony.

Whilst none of that data is potentially life-damaging or life-threatening by any means, it shows that this group is serious about their threats having spent the time and effort to hack into Sony servers as well as risked the legal implications of doing so.

I think, thus far, this group has shown themselves to act upon their word, so it's completely understandable, for the safety of the public, to do what Sony has done. Perhaps you could say that "it's your own fault if you see the movie", but imagine the potential for injuries or loss of life from innocent people nearby from attacks. And don't forget this isn't Australia, this is the US, how often do you hear about mass shootings where dozens of people are killed?

When something, such as this movie, is so polarising, it only takes one maniac to commit such heinous crimes. This is not to mention that reports are saying North Korea could be behind this group. As much of a joke North Korea is, they are a highly dangerous country with nuclear weapons. Let's make no mistake that without the help of international allies, North Korea would easily wipe out all of South Korea, given the size of their army and the weapons they possess.

      • Exactly, and regardless of the validity of their public threats (which I agree stretch the boundaries of credibility), it's entirely possible Sony is bowing in to the entirely different threat that they'll publish something even juicier than what is already released.

They've already proved they have a ton of data and the willingness to release it. Gven how embarrassing and comprehensive the existing leaks are, I suspect they've got Sony by the balls with much juicier stuff.

      • Ummm, I am not going to disagree with you on your main arguments, but I am just going to say this, South Korean military force is not as weak as you say they are. They are bound by the international treaties and obligations, but if South Korean military goes as far as North Korea do, North Korea doesn't stand a chance. Their weapons are outdated at best. This is one reason why North Korea is focusing on ABC weapons. Also, even with those obligations and treaties, I still say North Korean military force is weaker than South Korean ones.

Though I completely agree with you on regards to how stupid it was to make a movie about a dictator who is crazy enough to pull stunts like this and damage your company.
