Buying Car off eBay

I am looking to buy car off Ebay. To be honest, I have big crush on this car however I am concerned about the fact that it is located in VIC and I cannot do test drive as I am in NSW.

The seller has 100% feedback with rating of 125 and they seem to be authorised dealer with showroom.

I want to know if anyone has bought car previously via Ebay and what was their experience.

Am I making mistake to buy car without doing test drive though payment will be via Paypal?

    Cars aren't covered by Paypal.

  • Get it inspected by a local mechanic or similar to Nrma inspection. Also sometimes crushes tend to blind you to any faults

Just fly down to Melbourne and test drive it. $150 (apx.) well spent in my opinion.

    • Unless it is dirt cheap, and you are willing to put money into it if something needs work, then I would fly down.

I have done both situations (flying and not flying) each for the very reasons above and worked out great for me both times.

Although, first I've heard of a dealer selling a car on ebay…?

I think RACV do an inspection and test drive for around $100 (dont quote me on that). But yeah bad idea to buy a car without checking it over and test driving it

  • My old man flew to Sydney to pick up a car he bought on feebay and found out it was crap, didn't buy it and had to fly back on an expensive flight. Can you not find a similar model closer to home. Good luck.

  • Thanks everyone for your valuable feedback

Which car have you got a crush on ?

  • If it's special you'll find a way to fly down and have a look…

Also, I've learnt that car descriptions on ebay… useless… the bastards never list all the faults! Never buy a car sight unseen or unless you have someone you trust to check it over.

  • I've heard of people buying cars off ebay .. i dont think theres anything wrong with it
As with buying a car through ANY channel … do your own due diligence. Get it checked out, fly down to do a test drive, etc. Money well spent IMO …. if ur not willing to do that, I think you should just look for a local buyer (be it on ebay or otherwise).

If u still want it but dont want to spend the extra dosh … then accept any issues you might have (or could've picked up during DD).
