  • Does it have vesa mount?

    • Yes, I was at the good guys store yesterday and they mounted it in front of me. However this tv does not support hdmi 2.0 which is kind of a deal breaker for me. Although at this price … you can't go wrong..

      • What drawbacks does this cause?

        • Screen lag, because it only does 4k at 30hz so mouse movement and gaming will feel really laggy. Watching movies is okay. Movies are 24p anyway.

          @evalord:

But the TV is only 2.5k anyway?

        • @rhys100:

haha i realise that i was mistaken.. its def 4k haha

For $12 more go for "Sony 50" Smart TV KDL50W700B"

    • not UHD

    • I know. Been thinking for a while. Just not set on the mount. Another $50 to convert it to vesa. I'm guessing the picture in the Sony is way better than this TV tho.

      • universal bracket?

    • And yes. Not uhd as said above

It is UHD mate, what are you on about. I've read the tv manual at a good guys store.

    • Dont forget the The Good Guys - $50 Store Credit When Spending $250 Online - might come in handy if you're eyeing up something else.

If I still couldn't make up my mind, I'd check both in store and see which of the two looked better (design and picture)

  • Hisense TV warranty is decent. Dont see the major manufacturers doing the same.

    Good price for a 50"

  • The image on the Hisense is actually very good with very good contrast, we are very pleased with it.

"Anything off USB is superb as it upscales brilliantly, beside DLNA we also use a chromecast so I can send catch up tv for the wife and it looks like HD compared to the transmitted shows.
The smart function is not the full android but has Opera browser and a stack of apps from the Opera shop especially video, internet tv, youtube etc. 4k youtube is incredible.
You cannot see any pixels on the screen unlike our old plasma and its handled every codec I have thrown at it so far.
    Any specific questions please ask."
Also has the simplest remote I have ever seen for a tv, good for my wife :)

    • have you tried 4k yet? does it feel laggy when you hook up a computer to it?

      • I have a 2 year old gaming laptop, 4k is beyond it. :(
I bought it for the fact it has good screen IMO, looks good (wifes requirement) and simple remote so I dont have to sort out wrong button presses.
For the price difference it was easy to choose above 1080 as our last tv lasted around 7 years so I am sorted for 4k streaming etc.
A mate who used to work with AVI equipment was drooling over the image quality yesterday.

    • I like the effect of the 100Hz refresh rate, makes it look more 'real' and fluid. How does this work with FTA as well as streaming through Apple TV. Does the upscaling affect this?

  • No point in UHD if your eyes are more than 1.5m from the 50" screen. (more for passive 3D, but this set does not do that)

    I want a UHD projector :)

  • I went to good guys to pickup but wouldn't let me till boxing day. Went to bing Lee and price matched.

  • +1

Okay, I picked it up 2hrs ago. And I have to say this is a terrible TV if you are using it as a computer monitor. The input lag is insane. It has so much lag even in 1080p mode. However, picture quality is great as geebee stated. No issues with that. Smart function is terrible. Might as well not include it and spend that resource to make the tv better. Sigh, $687 from TGG with $50 voucher, guess i cant complain.

  • After using this tv for an hour I'm over it. I get an average score of 450ms on
    http://www.humanbenchmark.com/

I don't have the quickest reflexes but with my IPS monitor (again some lag but not noticeable) I average 230ms. Hence this tv has at least 200ms lag on top of whatever you are using ie consoles / computers etc. The lag is unreal, I would not use this tv for anything apart from watching movies. Ended up selling it today.

    • Silly question you did turn off all the auto systems and ran it in game mode?
Just asking as I haven't used it for gaming,I bought it as a TV at which it is brilliant.

      • Yea, tried everything. Just want to emphasize this is excellent for watching TV. Used game mode, didn't make much difference. Even at 1080p the lag is horrendous. Anyway, I sold it for $650 still got a $50 voucher from The Good Guys to be emailed to me. So I didn't really lose money I guess.

        • pc gaming yea? xbox 360 etc should be fine yea?

        • @rhys100:
Nah man, console gaming. It's friggin impossible to play any console games on it. Basically half a second delay on everything.

        • I just repeated your test but stuck the reply in the wrong space:) see below.

        • @evalord:

I took mine back to bing Lee and exchanged for a 55" son for 995. Much better

        • @rhys100:
          Good work.

  • I just tried the same test at 1080p and I was getting an extra 150 to 175 ms delay, so no not good for gaming as you are getting upto .175 second lag above a monitor, mind you how much lag does a "normal" tv via HDMI have?
Edit, just tried the HDMI on another tv and had 50 to 75 ms delay above the same tv via vga.

But when my current monitor dies I now know how to test the response times on a new one before purchase, as I am using a 32" tv as a monitor via VGA though so no extra lag.

I was very pleased to get better than average reflex timing as I am 52 years old :)

    • I'm assuming you mean you are getting 260ms (being the average) + 150ms = 410ms delay on the tv. There is no average delays for TV but Sony tend to make TV's with low input lag - in the vicinity of 30 - 50ms. My reported lag of 450ms is using 4k mode. 1080p is about 350ms - 380ms again still high.
