  • Old model.
Current model is $2700, with 4Gb RAM and 2.53GHz Processor..

    Still a good price though.

    • Bear in mind the $2,700 model you compared it to doesn't have the 9600M discrete graphics that this HT offer has (to get the 9600M on the current models, you'd have to go with at least the $3,199 model).

      • Makes it an even better price then!
I think it's a great price, just pointing out it's a superseded model. (just)

Refurb store has the non Discrete Graphics 2.53GHz Macbook Pro for $2300 and
2.53GHz with the 9600M Discrete graphics for $2700

Is it worth $300 to get 2Gb RAM and 530MHz faster CPU (at the loss of Discrete Graphics)?
        Personally I don't think so.

Does this come with the free upgrade to Windows 7? :p

    • -7

mate, it runs Mac OSX not M$

      • +2

I run Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro with VMware Fusion in OS X, and natively with Boot Camp. Windows works great on a Mac, too. :)

        • that would be because they are the same intel hardware used by any other laptop

          • +1

            @rodh: I did say "natively" (as opposed to emulated), didn't I? :)

      • +2

        ……sigh

        • Lol, you said it! ;)

      • +4

Ya know, I understand using M$ instead of MS when you're talking about Linux or business tactics or something.

When talking about Mac products it seems wrong to mock Microsoft for overcharging…

        • +1

Sadly, there seems to be a new genre of Mac users that are vehemently anti-MS for no real reason; and at the same time supremely overconfident about the quality and value-for-money of their own choice of system!

          Scary! ;)

          • +2

@StewBalls: As are the people who are vehemently anti-Apple..
or for that matter anyone who is fanatical about anything!

      • Interesting article today:
        http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/10/11/major-bug-in-snow-l…

Must be a new feature Mac OSX put in. It's so new, even Microsoft doesn't have it in their Operating systems…

        :)

        • M$ probably have crack team adapting and developing it as we speak.

        • That just looks like the Cupertino team playing catch up with the Redmond team. They have this feature in Windows for years, if not decades…

        • MS have implmented this feature in their data centres already and are rolling it out now ;-)

This is a good price if you need it now. Apple are widely tipped to be releasing new models soon (if not this month), and with a strong Aussie dollar you can expect some significant price drops across the board. Also note that this comes with 2GB of DDR3 RAM, while the new models come with 4GB as standard — expect to pay about $100 to upgrade the RAM on this one.

    • Price drops are unlikely as this is Apple we're talking about.

Updates soon also seem unlikely: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/

      • Good link despite being somewhat speculatory.

MacBooks have been updated this year so agree unlikely to see new models for a little while. I do think we'll see new iMacs soon though.

Re prices, the market determines what is reasonable. Apple sales are strong despite the premium but I expect we'll see some revision in Oz pricing in the next quarter.

        • Just a repricing based on the $US-$AUS parity should be expected soon, probably with Christmas bundles.
Apple do drop prices, but don't expect them to appear at prices remotely close to the $US-$AUS exchange rate!

      • Apple's prices do tend to reflect the prevailing exchange rate, even if they may not pass any savings on in full. The Aussie dollar has appreciated 15% against the USD since June 8 (when the current MBP prices were set) and is likely to appreciate further before the next MBP release.

"Soon" was a bit vague from me; I'm anticipating an update within the next few months. Even the link you posted shows a strong chance of MBP updates within the next 3 months.

      • Who says Apple don't drop prices! ;)

  • jump22: The current Macbook Pro line up was recently updated in June/July so it is unlikely for another update or new model coming out until next year. $1999 is a very good price for a superseded Apple product as Apple would sell the exact same model on the Apple website for at least $300-400 above this price! Good catch!

    Good find. Excellent Price.

    • -2

how does a Mac ever have an excellent price. please, enlighten me!

      • I think when there's a clear 35% discount over Apple's own prices it might just meet most people's criteria! ;)

        • criteria for what? over-priced pc parts?
its basically a laptop worth about just over half the price badged with an apple logo.

          absolute rip-off!

          • +1

@forlorn: This isn't an Apple vs PC debate, it's about whether a specific product is being offered at a substantial reduction over retail price; which it is; therefore it IS a bargain to interested parties! Whether you or I would choose to buy Apple or not is utterly irrelevant! ;)

I'll let you in on a little trade secret though, Macs are the best thing ever invented for geeks….when most people ask me what to buy I say a Mac….wanna know why? Coz on the rare occasion that they manage to stuff something up (gotta love that proprietary HW & SW), I get to tell them I know nothing about Macs so they need to use their warranty or see a Mac shop/guru! Bullet dodged! :)

            • @StewBalls: Why is it not an Apple vs PC debate?
You're propagating poor value to people who aren't technologically savvy. Sorry for feeling the need to be truthful to people? I believe that's why there is a comments section, so apparent 'bargains' can be discussed, dissected and therefore validated. If you are intimidated by my knowledge I suggest you don't post in the comments section?

Your second paragraph proves my point.
              Cheers!

  • Good price, though I bought this model from the Apple refurbished store back in June this year for $2149. Unsurprisingly they dissapeared fast!
    +1 9600GTM graphics

I use Windows 7 (bootcamp) on it and it's great but the trackpad is too sensitive

  • +1 to this price/deal.

On a related note, I just bought a refurb 17" MBP 2.6GHZ with discrete graphics.

Using Logic Audio, and I find the performance of the machine quite disappointing.

Definitely not what I expected from the flagship model.

  • Wow… this is TEMPTING… I might wait for the next pricing round before upgrading though… fingers crossed

guys, don't waste your money on this..

alternatively you might wanna check out the price in hongkong store which has got the price amazingly low as now the exchange rate is advantage for us (rapidly growing on AUD)..

if you dont have anyone you know in hongkong, you might just find someone in ebay…

i understand there is risk for tariff, but its worth for a go.

come on, not this one, $2000, i got my first macbook there for only AUD$1200 while was marked as $15XX in AU store…

p.s. iphone there is $100 cheaper. isnt this bargainer than this????

    • +1

its fkn hong kong. who the hell knows a random hong kong person to buy them a laptop? u could always fly there and spend 1k on flights. yup great idea

i mean if i was purchasing a suit y would i buy 1 in aus for? i could always go to thailand and get a fitted suit made for me for a quarter of the price

      • yer asians these days. sigh.
