HP Deskjet 2540 Wireless Printer - $29 - The Good Guys

220

Cheap wireless printer with copy, scan functionality.

Good option for students looking to supplement a cheap b&w laser with something that can print colour, scan and copy with minimal upfront cost.

Wireless function is great and similar wired printers are selling for the same price or more. Not sure how much ink the starter cartridge has but it could be worth buying a bunch of printers just for ink.

Still selling for 47.60 at JB after their 30% printer discount. There was a stack of them near the front, not near the printer section, with about 1/2 sold yesterday at my local TGG store.

  • They also have Nespresso Inissia for $129, which has never been this cheap without a cashback.

  • Color carts are one shared cart. Good deal really the printer is a $39 PC store printer. Good deal if you need one

  • +1

Shared ink (colours in one cartridge) is not an issue unless you print a letterhead or logo of one primary colour constantly. The nice thing about the HP's in this range is that the print head is on the cartridge. The units that use individual tanks most times leech ink into a machine mounted print head (sponge) which can clog/harden.

With these low-end units, change the ink, get a new print head. I've had a similar HP for going on 5 yrs. now with two students using it quite a lot.

RE: ink usage. Unless you're printing something archival or a photo (don't- just get it done at a shop)…when you begin to print, choose "properties">"fast or draft" setting. Your ink will go 2-3 times longer & the text is still very legible. Don't forget that they can only sell you the printer once- now they want that ink drained as fast as possible.

    Cheers good deal for wi-fi!

  • I have had this printer since February [then $56 @ TGG] and am very happy with it. These days I don't print a lot & haven't yet replaced the cartridges. One reason I bought this printer is that a HP 61 genuine b & w/colour twin pack can be bought on ebay for @ $30. After many years of using a an older HP all in one connected via usb cable, I appreciate the improved connectivity of a wifi printer.

    • So the starter cartridges must be reasonably full if they lasted that long. Otherwise I might just save the environment and pick them for $30 off eBay rather than buying a whole new printer for $29.

      • Checked just now - approximate levels currently are colour @75%, b & w 50-60%

        • Nice. I'll probably do the same thing and order off eBay

  • got the inissia lime from here. Thanks OP!

  • Hi guy's I brought this printer about two weeks ago for $45 from officeworks and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived the next day with two new ink cartridges included, overall the print quality is pretty good and for $29 I'd say it's a bargain.

    • I'd agree, definitely the wireless was the main thing for me. Gone are the days of installing software and being limited to printing via usb connection. At $29 it's a good pick up for domestic use.

  • Darn, Instore only
