MacBook Pro 13" Retina

Hey, I'm interested in purchasing a MacBook Pro 13" Retina 256GB version which sells on the Apple store for $1849, or $1649.90 after school discount and then 2% cashback from cashrewards, so $1616.90 in total with shipping.

I'm not really interested in purchasing the air or the new MacBook Air with Retina coming out next year sometime.

Do you reckon this is a suitable time to buy and are there any other places which sell for less?

Cheers in advance.

It's always a suitable time to buy. When you're in the market for technology, just buy when you need, if you need it now, buy it now. There's no point waiting because there's always going to be something new and improved around the corner and you're always going to end up waiting for the next big thing.

The price you're getting is quite decent.

    • Im guessing that a Early 2015 model would have better resale value than a late 2014 model. But other than that, I agree with you.

Very marginally better. Also, the difference is very negligible in the long run.

For example, just think about cars, the price difference between a 2010 and a 2009 plate car might be quite big, but if you go back further, nobody would really care about a 1998 or 1997 plate at all.

So if you want to buy a new one and upgrade every year or two, then yes, it'd probably make a small difference, but if you're actually going to keep this thing for a long time, then it really doesn't make a difference. Just remember that the longer you keep it, the more people will care about how well kept it is and the condition rather than whether it was a 2014 and 2015 model.

And let's face it, people aren't dumb, they know to buy by specs.

You can currently get this model for $1618.37 delivered from Dick Smith.

Dick smith run deals fairly often over 10% on Apple and office works has now started selling Mac so wait until dick smith has a 11% or better deal on then go to office works and get the extra 5% price beat.

I'm looking at the same laptop so that's what I'll be doing, let me know what you end up doing!

    • Wow, thats awesome. I think I may wait til Dicksmith have a discount, then price match at OW. Hopefully the process will be easy since it'll probably be a coupon. They have 10% right now… But its usually available at night…

Pretty much guaranteed officeworks will have it 10% off permanently to avoid this but once a 13 or 14% off comes out, it's game time

        • @clickship:

Hey man, Groupon have 7.5% off giftcards at the moment for big W. And i emailed them asking whether I could use the gift cards at Dick Smith and they said yes. I might call them to make sure, but this would certainly save some money for the Macbooks.

        • @18: awesome timing, ill check it out! thanks
