not bad, but not remarkable either. you can buy a 2Gb chip for about $40 or so anyway

    • still.. this is $100 cheaper than other shops.. also note about 250GB vs 320Gb HD

    pity it's an acer

Pray tell, what's your fanboy leaning then?

      • lol.. "pray tell"??? havent heard that in a while!
Well, as long as it's not an Acer really. There are plenty of flimsy laptops out there but Acer certainly tops the pile.

        • +1

Nonsense, I've seen/used/worked on dozens of Acer laptops and they're just as reliable as any other make IME!

Yes, externally they're quite utilitarian; they're definitely not as pretty as something from Asus or HP/Compaq, which the inexperienced mistake for flimsiness; but I can assure you from considerable practical experience that structurally and electronically they're just as sound as any other brand!

They come far better spec'd for the money than their peers, that's why the ignorant think if they're cheaper they've gotta be nastier! Please, if you've got some real world experience or empirical data to back up the FUD I'm all ears?

acer has been nice to me mate :) I think it's a preference thing

    • hows that better thats a refurb machine as apposed to new.

  • You can get an Acer eMachine 725 for $738 from PLE.com.au, and then get $89 cash back from Acer.

    • 1 x 2048MB (2048MB Total) DDR2 Memory (as mentioned above, easily upgraded to 4GB for under $50)
    • 250GB SATA HDD 5400RPM
    • 15.6" WXGA Acer Crystalbrite Widescreen
    • Intel Mobile Graphics Accelerator 4500M
    • DVD-Super Multi DL Drive
    • 802.11a/g Wifi

    • Integrated low-light enhanced webcam 0.3mp
    • 5-1 Card Reader
    • 6-Cell Li-Ion Battery with up to 3 hours Battery Life
    • 2 Year Warranty

    Advantages of this one:
    - $111 cheaper before and $200 cheaper after cashback
    - Longer battery life
    - Longer warranty

    Advantages of the post:
    - Marginally bigger HDD (320GB vs 250GB)
    - Marginally faster CPU (2.1GHz vs 2.0GHz)
    - Extra RAM
    - Draft N wireless
    - Approximately 8% lighter (2.5kg vs 2.7kg)

Really, the only reason you'd get the one in the deal is if you were desperate for Draft N.

  • Hmm I must say, I've had an Acer for 6 years and it's still running smooth (cost 1.5 grand at the time). Much better than other people's laptops. My friends have had many issues with Toshiba's for some reason, I thought they were meant to be a good brand???
