Found it in the big w catalogue. Its only 3g and locked to telstra but it can share your wifi out to up to 5 devices and can be powered by an external power adapter. Only $10

        • @brucefromaustralia: thanks, will try today. i am currently sitting in this shopping centre to use their free wifi. will go back to grab the unit and the receipt and come back here again this afternoon maybe. no internet connection at home really sucks.

        • +1

          @brucefromaustralia:

          Yeah, much appreciated.

I bought the $19 modem and 3 starter packs today after some hesitation from the coles girl.

When I asked about returning them should I have coverage issues (except the opened $19 modem) she said Coles will take any unopened packs back as long as you keep the receipt.

          $46 12GB vs $50 4GB, I'm happy :)

alwayseric: I would apply the same logic to Big-W. There is no legal reason for them to decline the return if unopened. May be a different story if you wait several months that's about all.

Now I'm the one sitting in a shopping centre on free WiFi, wondering about a poor purchase.

Just found out HN had my order for 9 $30 Telstra Starter Packs waiting for me since November. I had ordered from Tokyo & had no idea how many I wanted, just that "everyone" on OzBargain was buying.

I had assumed order was cancelled. Bought at $8 each, but… ALL expire in April or June 15! Luckily I can get refund.

So if anyone in Brisbane wants $8 $30 Telstra Starter Packs I know a store that has a few ;-)

        • @brucefromaustralia:

now i am sitting at home using the telstra's wifi+modem with the vodafone sim from the $9 usb modem, but i will go back to the shopping centre soon lol

good luck with the refund from HN. some guys there are nice, but some are assholes.

but i do have another question for you: the vodafone's wifi + modem unit ($19) is better than the telstra's wif + modem ($10 from bigw), right? the vodafone's has built-in battery.

        • @Click_It: i guess so. thanks.

        • @alwayseric:
Definitely! Good battery. WiFi range should be better, especially if powered.

Local HN has been good to me - immediately offering to cancel orders & process PayPal refund.

But too much sitting… lunch time up here. Have a voucher for $5 Indian meal ;-)

  • Went into my local BigW - they are now marked on the shelf as $49, but the guy checked on the till and they still come up as $10. Max limit of 3 per customer. I bought 3 as I have a little IoT project that utilizes these "Wingles" (seriously that is what they call them!).

They also have the 4G version that is $99 - but that one definitely was priced correctly.

Anyway - not sure how long special will go on. I'll but another 3 later on at another store.
