SD/SDHC/SDXC Card for Canon 1200D?

So I got the recent DSE Ebay 1200D deal, picked up today and now the camera has no SD card inside. Can you guys suggest me what would be the best memory card for this particular camera (for both photo and occasional video recording)? I'm looking at 16GB capacity.

For reference, HN is having 1/2 yearly sale on cards - http://www.harveynorman.com.au/cameras-printers-ink/camera-a…

  • After bit of researching I think I should go with this one - http://www.harveynorman.com.au/cameras-printers-ink/camera-a…

    Professionals, please give your opinion.

    • Looks good… price is a bit high but not dramatically.

Aussie Ebay ones are about 13$, but will take time to arrive and might have some issues (Heard a lot of horror stories regarding buying memory card off Ebay). So ordered the HN one.

About price, it's HN, we know it'll be like this even with a sale :)

Excellent SD card. Will not be a bottleneck if shooting RAW on continuous burst, buffer will max out first on a 1200D. 16GB is more than enough especially if you don't plan to shoot RAW. Even then, is plenty if you're going to offload after every shoot (unless you're shutter happy, that's becomes another story)

          Good choice OP.

eBay memory cards are generally fine when place of origin is Australia; but you should always check the feedback as there are still dodgy sellers who advertise fake SD cards as the genuine article.

        • @professorturtle: Too bad I plan to shoot in RAW :( Would that be of any concern?

        • @bargainaus:

Nah. No worry at all. Definitely won't fill a 16gb in a single shoot unless you're holding the trigger for the entire event.

        • @professorturtle: I borrowed a SD card from friend and shot last nights NYE at Canberra. Crazy thing is, taking just stills on auto mode only, the camera was displaying busy after every 2/3 clicks! I suspect the card is a slow one and I better losen up my wallet a bit to get a faster card.

          @bargainaus:

Yep, that's exactly what happens when too slow of a card is used. Card just can't keep up with the camera. Should be able to take around 6-8 photos continuously before hitting 'Busy' on most quality Class 10 cards.

  • I am not a professional anything… but if you get a sd card that is marked CL10 then you will be fine.
Size of the card you get will be up to you.
Most brands are pretty good these days.

    • HN says they are getting stock but don't know when it'll arrive, it may take up to 2 weeks. Now, there is a new deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/177184

Can I use the 32GB Class 10 Micro SDHC with Adaptor in Canon 1200D?

  • New deal just posted for Elite Performance card.

No idea if it's "good" for your camera but it is class 10…

Ya I saw that deal but don't need that much space, and the camera is an entry level one for a noob (me!). So 16GB is more than enough.

  • Office works 32gb $29

  • Update: Went to MSY today and they have a newer version of SanDisk Ultra 32GB SDHC 40MB/s with 10 years warranty, the HN one was 30MB/s.

It came up as 30$ and am happy to pay that 3-5$ difference over Amazon to a local store. HN refund completed as well. Now off to shooting!

I'm not a photography enthusiast, don't even remember when I took the last photo from my smart phone. But I'm getting in to digital photography to keep myself distracted, passing through probably the worst time of my life. Thanks to everyone in this thread who helped me to make a better decision in buying the card.
