    Good unit.

  • Slightly more than I paid using Cbigxmas ebay 20% off from Good Guys but still a good deal. I love mine, I am sure it will be better once the subwoofer is not stuck behind the Xmas tree.

  • How does this sound bar compare to the Samsung HW-H751?

  • Can't turn the Samsung into a 4.1 surround system.

With this model, you can detach the rears from the main unit for movies and put them back for regular TV or music.

Other than that I can't help. Never listened to the Sammy but was thoroughly impressed by the Philips when mucking around with them in store @ Myer.

    Here's some reviews for you:

    • While the idea is great that two drivers can be detached and moved wirelessly to rear of seating for true 4.1 experience, in reality the power for those pods lasts for up to 10 hrs max (prob a couple of days on stand by) so you have to repeatedly re-dock it with the main bar to charge it.

This is cool when you have the novelty factor, once its settled in you are going to get annoyed by having to detach before use + dock it after use, EVERYTIME otherwise you will be watching a movie half way and then get interrupted bc one speaker is out of power.

I am one for just plonking down infront of tv, press a few buttons and voila. Not willing to do 'setup and cleanup' for watching my movies.

A little extra practical info for you all to think about… No argument it's a great price.

  • I'd take a look at Yamaha's latest YSP-2500 soundbar which has been getting good reviews, it can be had for around $850 if you haggle. This Philips while very good is last gen.

I was looking at the Philips & also the Samsung HW-H751 but have decided on the Yamaha.

    • Latest HDMI (3 in/1 out) with 4K 50/60p Pass-Through, 3D and HDMI CEC
    • HD Audio format decoding (Dolby HD & DTS-HD)
    • Headphone Out
    • Wireless Bluetooth Subwoofer
    • 16 array speakers that deliver targeted sound beams
    • High-quality wireless music streaming with Bluetooth
    • Advanced HT Controller app enables detailed setting and easy operation
    • IntelliBeam automatic sound calibration
    • I would go with Yamaha too. Even just by reading their product pages on official site you can tell so much more engineering has going into it. Compared to Samsung's very much marketing whitewash.

For those of you that dont know Yamaha is legendary with their audio. I guess a bit like Samsung with their phones. So those in the know wouldn't even consider these two match ups. Plus thats a 4.1 channel vs 7.1 channel (Yamaha) capable.

    • +1

IMO the detachable speakers of the Philips soundbar makes a huge difference. Plus it doubles as a good party hifi system for multiple rooms. Yamaha might have better technology overall, but lacks versatility.

Also to consider, unless you have an isolated home theatre room with walls on all sides for the sounds to bounce around, just the soundbar itself is not going to give you a surround sound feel at all.

  • Thanks OP, been looking for one of these below $700 :) cheers
