Eneloop Battery Gone Bad after Single Use

OK like everyone here I have now heaps of unopened eneloops. All have been purchased from DSE on sale. For Xmas I allowed my wife to use some in interior lights. I charged them fully before use (even though they are eneloops). Now I am putting the lights away I find a white AA made in Japan which was in a pair has turned rusty ( inside on the tree )and gone flat even though the other one is still good. Its really annoying because for years I have gone down the path of just buying bulk cheap batteries and throwing them in the bin after use. I wonder if I dropped into a DSE store with the battery would they replace it?

  • Every product has a certain % fail rate, I would not waste my time with DSE but go direct to the source https://au.panasonic.com.au/Support/Contact+Panasonic/Contac… give them a call, I'd very surprised if they kick up a fuss over 1 battery :)

  • Turned rusty?
You're sure it didn't get wet, maybe some sap from the tree if it's a real tree?

It's possibly a manufacturing defect where the electrolyte has escaped the casing, but before you go slinging accusations, double check it's not some sort of user error.

      PEBBAT.

Problem Exists Behind Battery And Tree.

      Yep, OP got it wet.

I really don't get the problem? If you have a defective product, get it replaced under warranty. Personally, I wouldn't even bother for a single batter given how cheap it is - my time is worth more than that.

I don't see how it's annoying, stuff fails, sh*t happens, get over it, move on, leave 2014 on a good note. It's the last day of the year and you're here blowing your wits on a $2 battery.

thankyou stemcell for your positive contribution. of course paulsterio i am not particularly concerned about 1 battery but do you "get over it , move on" when it is 2 batteries or three? I sure am not" slinging accusations" . the battery was in a compartment with one other on a plastic tree and

Well if it was a recurring problem then I would send them all back at once. But so far, it looks like a one-off. Even amongst others here, problems with Eneloops aren't that widely seen.

    allowed my wife

Wow, what a top husband you are! ;-p

Unless your wife is underage, which is creepy, why do men treat their partners like they are little girls?

    battery in bin

Uh, no you take them to local recycling drop off points at shops and libraries and government buildings.

Battery World have collection bins also. They need to be disposed of properly.

Do people even read instructions? They even have a logo of a bin with a big X over it. Newsflash: that means do not dispose of in local landfill! God help us.

    You know, environment.

Its unfortunate hooray that your thread collected so many unhelpful whingers, I see this toxic attitude becoming the norm on this forum which in turn stops people posting.

Neg away whingers and please use your multiple accounts to get the score nice and low :)

    • just buy an identical set of batteries from DSE then return or replace them under warranty

  • Please don't put any batteries in the bin.
Batteries can leach toxic chemicals (such as cadmium, lead or mercury) into the ground, contaminating soil and water. If groundwater is contaminated, it carries the contaminants with it as it moves.
Aldi also have a recyling bin where you pack your groceries.
