How to Purchase London Stock?

Hi People;

I am interested in investing in some companies listed on London Stock exchange, previously, i have not engaged in stock market.

After a few research, I am aware that Commsec and Anz e-trade will be able to perform my international stock purchase, and i am just wondering is there any reputation online financial platform available for me to buy UK stock in Australia?

Any suggestion will be highly appreciated;

    Yikes, if you have to ask then that's a red flag to me to stay away.

    Don't turn your nose up at the ASX. Can still buy Rio and BHP here.

    Far better off with ETFs than trying to negotiate your way through forex and setting up an account in London.

    Which company do you want to buy. Do you even have one in mind?

  • You're better off investing in an ETF that then invests its capital into the UK markets.

    There's a lot of issues you need to be aware of, the most important of which is whether you're going to hedge your exposure to exchange rates. And if you're looking at investing in some companies rather than a variety of companies, you have to look at hedging your exposure to market risk as well.

    So you're looking at entering the UK stock market, the futures market on stock indices, as well as the futures market on currency, so you can hedge your risks.

    It's just too complicated and given the amount of capital you seem to be investing, transaction costs will wipe out any gains you're likely to make.

  • Ask yourself 'Why' you want to invest in the companies you speak of? If its because you like the company or something like, stay away, emotions usually are the first thing that get you into trouble in the market. However if the company has a unique product or service and is on an expansion path globally then there maybe value in that stock price, always do your own research.

  • thank you all of your kind and helpful responses, it may be really not a good time for investing in UK, as far as the exchange rate is concerned.

    but for these few stocks, i have been spending quite some times on them, and believe that the prices will go up in the foreseeable future, hence, i would like to give it a shot, can any one provide some good e-trading platforms, so that i can give it a try?

    many thanks
