2012 or 2013 MacBook Pro Retina 13?

Hi,

Just an opinion, only for web surfing and emails, which one to get? Will 2012 be sufficient? Obviously price is the major factor, as i am being offered around 1k. for 2012 and 1.2k for 2013.

Thanks all replies!

        For reading emails?

You must have incredible eyesight if you can see the pixels of fonts.

      • 'very disappointing'

explain to what aspect is it disappointing in regards to surfing the web and reading emails - what's there to lose out on? less % srgb correct cat photos?

the main advantages of the pro's display would be it's colour accuracy and high resolution, none of which are crucial for light usage. 1440x900 on a MBA is more than enough.

once youve seen a retina mbp and jump onto an air its defiantly 'disappointing' . im just going by my experience and the airs screen is dark and dull.

@dylanando: Anything apart from a retina display will be disappointing if that is your logic.

Anything will do. Both will work fine for this purpose.

  • 2013 model has much better graphics and battery life. Plus if something goes wrong you have a better chance of getting the work done as statutory warranty.

Did you see you can get refurbs direct from Apple for around those prices?

I reckon the 2013 model is the way to go. It has better battery life and the integrated graphics are a real step up. The 8gb/256gb combo is the way to go as well so you are future proofing the device. I own this model and have never had a problem. It runs just as smoothly as when I purchased it last November.

I would also consider the upcoming Macbook Air Retina which will be released around June this year. It is expected to be around the size of an 11" Macbook Air and cram a 12" display with some super high res display.

    • The introduction of the Haswell chip (assuming late 2013) makes it super worthwhile. The battery life jump is pretty big.
