Amart Furniture Warranty Time Frame Change

So i bought a leather couch from amart on GE finance, it cost $1300 as it was the last one in stock. It came with a 5 year warranty. It has to be replaced about 9 months later as when you sat down it tore holes behind headrest as it was made incorrectly. So we decided to get a new couch which has a 1 year warranty. This couch the springs are gone holes where the ties are and one part the wood has split. Now this couch has 1 year warranty we made a claim 10 months in and now they are refusing to repair. However on their website warranty terms and conditions state that in the event a couch is replaced with a different model the warranty reverts to the original. This couch is unacceptable and basically unusable. How can I get my money back any ideas?

  • Replacement items never come with as new warranty, the warranty always reverts to original purchase time. Sadly as you chose a replacement different to the original item & with less warranty time, the replacement couch appears to only have had 3 months warranty left when you received it. So yes it is out of warranty. Getting your money back - unlikely.

    • They didn't make the original any more so i had no choice.

ACL is your best bet here! A couch that lasts 10 months can be deemed not 'fit for purpose', and you would have a case under ACL. Don't worry about the warranty that the couch came with as your are covered by a statutory warrant under ACL.

  • Contact consumer affairs in your local region. It's reasonable to expect your couch to last at least 2 years (which it hasn't even been since your original purchase) and you're onto your second one. If all is as you explain it then I would imagine this to be considered a 'minor fault' (as it may be fixable) which would mean it's Amarts choice of repair, replace or refund (but they must do one, not simply say to bad)
Consumer affairs will help your draft a letter to the store manager demanding an acceptable answer.
    Good luck

Has Amart run out of town all the decent furniture resellers like Spotlight has done up here to the craft businesses?

i have only used them twice and still waiting on my second order, but bedsonline/furnitureonline.com.au have been really good for me, you can get free delivery in sydney, melbourne, brisbane and register for their email list and you can get 10-15% off coupons pretty regularly….the main downside depending on what you order is the wait for it…

  • Just my two cents…..Will never go near super amart again.

Spent $1000 on a bed frame that after a few months came apart in a few places and the slats rattle (known problem)…they refused to repair. Only to replace with another frame (same problems will happen again) or give me a little money to have it repaired myself (don't have time to arrange handyman).

The material and build quality of their items is the same as the stuff you get at the reject shop.

Don't expect them to repair anything for you.

They build to suit a budget. Some of their materials and designs look good, but when you look at how they are put together and more so how they were engineered to be put together you can see where they cut corners. It simply wont last.

Dining table sets specifically as we didn't look at the other stuff, we found 2 sets of chairs that were properly engineered.

When you buy furniture that will take body weight repeatedly, the structure is the most important thing, then materials. If they skimp on the structure, you can bet they skimped on materials. Generally if they built the frame properly they have atleast put in forethought into everything else.
