MacBook Pro i7 Refurbished or i5 New

Hi guys,

In a bit of a pickle here.

Looking at getting a macbook pro or air but leaning towards the macbook pro retina.

For around the 2k mark I can either get a refurbished Macbook pro i7 (8GB RAM, 512 flash) or should I get a brand new Macbook pro i5 (8GB RAM, 512 flash)

Or is it better to get refurbished Macbook air i7 (8GB RAM, 512 flash) for $1.7k

Please help me decide!!

Thanks in advance!

  • Save the $300 and get the i5. Unless you're doing major high perf stuff you won't notice the difference between the i5 and i7 if they have the same RAM and SSD.

  • Get the i7. Poweeerr

  • What's with the overly dramatic language trend on OzBargain recently when discussing first world problems?

Choosing between two high performance, high spec, expensive laptops (which probably cost a yearly wage in a developing country) is hardly a dilemma: it's simply a decision.

    Definition of a dilemma:

a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives, especially ones that are equally undesirable.

    An example of a dilemma:

You are an inmate in a concentration camp. A sadistic guard is about to hang your son who tried to escape and wants you to pull the chair from underneath him. He says that if you don’t he will not only kill your son but some other innocent inmate as well. You don’t have any doubt that he means what he says. What should you do?

    • just for you, I have changed the word "dilemma" to "pickle".

Yes first world issues I know but it doesn't mean I cannot ask fellow ozbargainers what their thoughts are.

    • Almost got to Godwin within three posts. That's a good start to the day.

  • If the refurb is an older model, its a no-brainer - get the new i5.
