[PRICE ERROR] Seagate Wireless Plus 1TB $159 at Officeworks Oxley QLD

Moved to Forum: Original Link

1TB Seagate Wireless Plus Hard Drive $159 at Officeworks Oxley.

The OW website price for this drive is $219. I was actually intending to have them price match UMart when I went in.

May be a pricing/labelling error - it scanned at $219 at the checkout and that had to be overridden (but the label on the shelf has the right product description - so maybe this is an upcoming price change released too early ?).

No idea if other Officeworks will have them at this price. But let us know !

EDIT: There were 3 drives left on the shelf at Oxley when I was there yesterday evening.

  • How good is this for streaming videos from the HD to the tablet for say when I'm at work or driving in a car with kids?

    How is it powered?

    • +1

From what I have read, it can easily steam to 3 devices at the same time and is battery powered with a 10 hr battery life?

      • +1

looking at the photo - maybe it was meant to be $159 for the display box only, but $219 if you want the drive inside as well

    • Yeah, I have a friend who uses it to stream video to his kids' iPads in the car.

Battery powered (charged through standard USB3 port). Supposedly an easy 10 hours off a single charge.

There's also a hacked firmware available (for $) that adds more features. Can't offer any personal experience with it, though. http://www.hackseagatesatellite.com/wordpress/welcome/

      It is battery powered.

      I have 2 of these.

The Date of manufacture (DOM) is on the bottom of the box.
For the model made in 2013 it has the Seagate SATA to USB 3 connector and a separate power connector.
For the model made in 2014 it has a Micro USB3 connector and charges through the same connector.

It works great. I had 2 kids streaming different movies in the back of the car over Christmas.

The Seagate app is ok but can only play basic files.
If you need to play things like MKV you may need to down load something like nPlayer for your iPad.

    • Can confirm this is a great drive. I have been using this for about a year now to watch films on my iPad. I take it with me when I travel OS for some time out films in hotel rooms by carrying a light weight HDMI cable and iPad connection cable. It charges with USB cable (the cable is a small pin to USB lead), also has a USB 3 adapter to plug straight into laptop.

The iOS app is a little clunky but getting better and it has a web interface too so you can watch movies through local html address. Features search functions etc. It also has a wifi though mode where you can connect the HD to a wifi network and then connect your iPad to the HD AND the WIFI network so you can still receive text message and surf the web when you are connected to the HD (as you only have one WIFI connection on an iPad)

  • Great..I have been looking at picking one of these up. Can you post your receipt?

Um, we don't use the phrase "price/labelling error" here at OzBargain.

'Round here, folks they be preferrin' the term "opportunity"

  • PS - this product (at time of this post) is $219 on Officeworks website as well

    • On the 24th of December these were $197 for the 1Tb and $249 for the 2Tb at Officeworks.

  • Anyone have any experience with having this permanently connected to your smart TV?

  • I have this Seagate, but FYI, the other option is the Western Digital that also has an SD card reader that can download your camera photos. May be worth researching if that feature is useful.

    • Reviews on that don't look too good as the SD reader is a bit slow. Would have been good otherwise for use on holiday with a GoPro

  • Just called the Prospect Office Works Store ..

You might want to move this back to the deals section..
I just picked one up at officeworks at the gabba for $159 too

  • Still regular price at OW Trinity Gardens. Couldn't be bothered asking the sames attendant as it looked like I might just be given the run around.

$159 for a 1TB HDD is expensive. Esp for a Seagate. You guys not into IT?

If it was a SSD… hell yes. Price error for sure.

    For HDD… what a joke.

    • But it has wireless features which a normal SSD HDD does not have.

the agony millennial's endure plugging in a wire!

the wire might not co-ordinate with your footware either… OMG … totally unacceptable

        • +1

how do three ipad have three different movies playing at the same time with one normal cabled drive - infact how do you connect any cabled drive directly to a kids ipad.

        • @PVA:

somebody think of the children!!! lol

          sorry, Apple® children

        • @Son ofa Zombie:
          :)

i dont have a use for one either but clearly these are not just as a replacement for a normal drive - people need them for certain uses that a normal drive cant work.
