Cheap but Good Dumplings in China Town - Melbourne

Hi, just after some recommendations for good but not too expensive dumplings in China Town. We usually go to Raramen in Glen Waverley where you get 12 fried Pork dumpling for $8.80 so I am hoping for something around that price.

Thanks

There are toilets inside most of the restaurants, try there.

  • I know a good cheap place, even has pet mice

    Shanghai Dumpling House fo sho'.

Cheap yes, good no. But then you may favour cheap over everything else.

Instead I recommend Shanghai Street. Pass around the corner of Digi direct camera store.

      • Also -10000 points for shanghai. Horrible place.

        Go back to Sydney traitor!

Shanghai is an iconic place in Melbourne for dumplings.

You go back to Sydney…if you can even go back to a place that you were never there in first place.

      • Shanghai Street on little Bourne street is good!

Ok I fixed it, it was funny, but please some good suggestions now

  • Hutong Dumpling Bar is the best dumpling place I've been to. Granted, it's not necessarily the cheapest, but their Shao-long Bao is absolutely amazing.

We tried to go one Saturday night but it was closed for a wedding. That's right, a dumpling place closed for a wedding. That's how good it is.

Each to their own, but I found this place expensive and I thought it was pretty rubbish as well.

      • I'm going to Melbourne in a few months, and want to go to an amazing dumpling place. What would you recommend?

Not in the city… But I really like aunties dumpling in Carnegie. Prices are great and the dumplings taste great. Their chilli is one of a kind too. It has like fried onion in it
Their Shanghai fried noodle is bloody awesome too. So awesome I've been trying to find a place in Sydney that can rival it. Haven't found anything so far.

    • Oh I'd also like to add, the place looks crap. Menu looks ordinary. But definitely a place that you shouldn't judge by its cover.

I second Hutong. But the service is terrible!

Try Ants Bistro…cheap to mid-range prices. They do good dumplings, but I still find their Minister Chicken is what I go there for…or the chilli tomato fish.

    • Yes. Shanghai street and hutong are the obvious popular ones… It is evident by the huge queues to get in to both places. Do ozbargainers also look for hidden gems and shunning queues? I do… hate queues.

Though a mate did tell me once… When driving in the country, if you want good food… Look for where there are trucks parked.
