Denon DHT-S514 Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer $599 (RRP $999) @ oo.com.au + shipping

50

I was looking for the best price for Yamaha SRT-1000 soundbar/soundbase and found the Denon sound bar for $599. Looks like the cheapest price around. Most of the other stores have it for $849 - $950.
It has won the best "SOUNDBAR OF THE YEAR OVER $800" @ The Sound+Image Awards for 2015. http://www.avhub.com.au/awards/this-years-awards.html

I did not buy one as I am keen on Yamaha SRT-1000 but thought to share if someone is looking for a good soundbar.

  • Not to hate on OP, but IMHO from a purely audio perspective you'd get better bang for your buck with the Voll B44 deal and a decent receiver.

People interested in soundbars don't want speakers and cables all over the place.

This is actually pretty good connection wise. HDMI in and out. Easy to install and easy to hide away without cables visible.

Most likely, but from a purely adudio perspective you would rarely pick a soundbar. It's when you factor in convenience, ease, proportion of use etc where they can make a lot of sense, especially asthey are getting better and better.

  • I was expecting a good discussion on proper home theater systems Vs Soundbars. I guess it comes down to convenience for some people as KenT mentioned. In my case I got a Yamaha 5.1 home theater system but planning to replace it with a Yamaha SRT-1000 soundbase (http://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio-visual/dvd-players/sr…).I have a very active 2 year old boy who keeps pulling out speakers and changing all the setting on the receiver. Atleast with the soundbase it is going to sit below the tv and he wont be able to mess with it.

  • we've gone from having 5.1 speakers to now 1.1 and charging the same price. lol? Not sure what has happened?

I went from a Bose 3 2 1 to a receiver and three speakers. How is the sound bar for vocals ? I find without a centre speaker I cant hear any speech in movies without having to crank it, then the sound effects sound too loud.

  • In the main TV room I have a proper 7.1 system but in the family room and holiday flat i got a pioneer sound bar and they are really fabulous for what they are. Yes it is a compromise but overall it does make TV and media player movies sound a lot better than any TV audio. Plus, both have bluetooth so its easy to hook up the phone, start up Spotify and listen to music. I have a Denon mini HIFI and it has outstanding audio. The sound bar would likely be great.

  • Its now $499! super temped to get rid of the Z5500 been running for runs as basically 2.1 mode….

Only issue is I dont think I have room in front of my tv…so unsure of placement.

    • snap $499 and I'd snap it up .. back to $599 now.
