  • Any chance to beat the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 $370 + $15 shipping from Camera Warehouse?

You have it for $385 without shipping

    • Sorry that's not my decision but I would email that question to [email protected] maybe that will give you a cheap UV filter would you should have for it anyway

Sorry when I said cheap I meant discounted, not a cheap and nasty filter (because there are three or four different quality filters)

      • Why does it need a UV filter?

        • -2

All lenses should have a UV filter not so much for image improvement but for protection, with the UV filter protection is what it is all about it protects the very soft coatings of the front element and if you drop the lens it always seems to land on the filter thread which will crack the front element so a UV filter protects the Front element or glass of scratching and breaking.

The only problem here is the very cheap UV filters can actually lower the quality of your image so the more money you pay for a UV filter the less impact on image quality, but we are speaking of very small issues here the main purpose of UV filter is to protect your Lens

@nick coulson: Actually, none of the glass should have a UV filter. It just cuts off the light 1-2 stops and nothing else. If you drop the lens, regardless of whether you have the filter or not, the glass is gone in most cases.

        • @Gentlecrack:
UV filters are for 'household protection' like from my kids oily/acidic fingers when I am not around…

as for dropping a lens - we have had quite a few bounces with my sigma 30mm hsm (gen 1 - not art) and its still going well. I guess its just luck with any drop.

@nick coulson: Thanks for the reply, I was hoping there might have been something different than the ol' Ming paint protection for lenses.

I find a lens hood provide better protection (and shock absorption) than a filter.

        • @bongoman: When you are not around, wouldn't you be putting the caps on?

How is the A7 mk2 preorder going? Anyone've received it yet?

  • This is just general advertising tho? By the way why does the Sigma 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG HSM Mark II show the old version in the product photo? and what's the release date on this? http://gerrygibbscamerawarehouse.com.au/digital-slr-lenses/n…

Anyone else misread the title as the lens costing $17.95?

    • I must admit my heart rate went up, but even before I clicked it I knew it couldn't be true.

    • Kinda misleading lol

    • Totally, I couldn't click fast enough thinking i'd stumbled upon a crazy good bargain lol

Shame the Sigma 18-35mm doesn't appear to be included in the sale. Hangin' out for one of these!!
