How to Qualify for Special Nintendo Demo Codes?

I've been a Club Nintendo member since 2009 and have had my launch 3DS registered in Club Nintendo since 2011. I was really disappointed last year when I didn't receive codes for either SSB or ORAS and I had to obtain them through other means. With the announcement yesterday that they would be releasing Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate codes this week to select Nintendo 3DS owners I'm hoping I won't miss out a third time.

Does anyone have any ideas how to qualify for selection? Or am I just unlucky?

I don't ever receive promotional e-mails normally from Nintendo so I may be missing something.

EDIT: Potentially resolved.

  • I receive the nintendo newsletter and i received codes for smash and mh4 but not pokemon, it could be luck of the draw but i think being subscribed to the newsletter may help. In the classified section people are giving away mh4 codes btw

    • I didn't even realise they were out already. Looks like I missed out once again. :\

What's the Nintendo newsletter you're speaking of?

  • I got my Monster Hunter codes. I seem to always get codes. I just assumed everyone did.

  • Maybe it helps to register some games on your account? No idea, I just get them and share it to friends or OzB

  • -1

If anyone has a spare could they please chuck it over :))

  • Cheers, didnt even know I had gotten codes for mh4. have u done much of the nintendo stars reward program? I have a feeling its involved.

  • I subscribe to their newsletters and i got all 3 ( smash, Pokemon and Mh4).

  • I too always get the codes. I register lots of games.

  • got all codes too, ssb, oras, mh4. I'm actually quite surprised i keep getting them where as my friend who has heaps more nintendo consoles/games doesn't. guess it's all down to luck :/ You should really subscribe to the newsletter/register all your games on club nintendo if you haven't tho.

    • I have been consistently registering games since 2009. What's this newsletter everyone keep speaking of?

      • email news letter. Be enabled to receive it.

        • Is this the one you're referring to? As far as I can tell, I am signed up to that one but I've never received anything from it; none even in my spam box. The account for that doesn't seem to be linked to the Club Nintendo account so how would they tell if you own a 3DS?

        • @Eon-Rider:

It needs to be linked with your club Nintendo.

        • @heywes: How would I do that? I can't find anything in the settings for either accounts to do that. What indicators do your accounts have that they are linked?

To clarify, my situation is the following:

          • I have a Nintendo Members account with my e-mail address provided so newsletters should be enabled
          • I have a Club Nintendo account with my Nintendo 3DS registered in addition to a lot of other titles
          • I have a Nintendo 3DS that's linked to my Club Nintendo account via the eShop settings
          • I have only ever received one e-mail from [email protected] (is this a different newsletter?!) which awarded me Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for setting up my Nintendo Network ID
          • All e-mail addresses provided to the various services are identical

Then there's also the Miiverse crap which I'm not sure is relevant or not.

        • @Eon-Rider:

All the news from the latest Nintendo Direct - 15/01/2015

Did you get an email from them on that date? If so, you have it linked correctly and you are getting the emails.

I can log onto the club Nintendo page where I redeem my consoles and games. On this page I can see my email address linked with this profile. This is where you will receive the code.

That should be it. I can't find any check boxes for emails or anything I'm afraid.

        • @heywes: No, I didn't receive that e-mail. The "My Personal Data" page looks like this if it helps at all.

Maybe I'll give customer support a call.

        • @Eon-Rider:

I noticed at the bottom of my email from which I got my MH4 codes it says the following:

"This email has been sent to the email address which you registered to your Nintendo Network ID.
If you wish to unsubscribe from Nintendo Network newsletters, please click here."

Do you have a Nintendo Network ID (NNID)? Because it's NOT the same as your Club Nintendo Account (or at least I'm fairly certain it isn't). I recall NNID being linked to the eShop somehow…

EDIT= you might want to check your eShop's setting to enable yourself to receive promotional items

        • @Eon-Rider:
When you set up your NNID profile, you didn't by chance select to not receive notifications? Same as when setting up your club Nintendo account? If you selected no, that would be why.

"This email has been sent to the email address which you registered to your Club Nintendo account.
If you wish to unsubscribe from Club Nintendo newsletters, please click here."

That is the bottom of all emails from Nintendo.

        • @heywes: I feel like I've checked just about everywhere that has some sort of opt-in e-mal service.

          • Nintendo Network ID Settings - Email Preferences: Receive
          • Nintendo eShop - HOME Menu Notifications: Opt In
          • Nintendo eShop - Software Recommendations from Nintendo: Yes

Please let me know if I'm missing any others.

I probably will give them a call tomorrow.

        • @Eon-Rider:

I'm not sure were you found that but all of those look good. Wait and see when the next one appears, if you don't get it then buzz them. Worst case scenario, make a spare account to at least get email notifications. The emails with codes are "random".

        • @heywes: As mentioned, the first is from the Nintendo Network ID Settings and the other two are from the eShop. I'm just going to call them tomorrow and hopefully get this sorted.

I really appreciate all the help you guys have given me. I'll post back if I get it resolved. Hopefully they aren't completely clueless.

          @Eon-Rider:

I called once, Nintendo Australia customer support was not the best experience I have had. Hope you have a better time.

        • @heywes: Just got off the phone with them. The guy was surprisingly helpful even though he hadn't heard of the other two demos from before. Apparently nothing was wrong with my account from what he could see. My account seemed to be signed up for the newsletters but I just never received them for whatever reason so they did some sort of reset. I got an e-mail with subject "Please confirm your Club Nintendo newsletter registration" after they did that so hopefully I'll get the e-mails from now on.

        • @Eon-Rider:

          Hopefully it all works out.

        • @heywes: I was reading this today and they mention they sent an e-mail thanking Australians for their support. Did you or anyone else receive this? I didn't.

Not sure if I even care about this matter anymore since Club Nintendo is closing down.

        • @Eon-Rider:

The discountinuation email? Yeah I did. Gonna finish cashing in stars and buy some of the new release stuff thats supposed to launch next month or so.

Club Nintendo isn't the emails for promo codes. Different things.

  • I have spare codes for MH4. 3 spare codes in fact.

If its a special code, I get it. Beats me why.

But I'm with Cake, I have a heck of a lot of games registered.

And even more to register this year, dear lord.

    • Mind if I take one off you? I could give you a spare Steam game in return.

      • Nevermind. Someone sent me one.

      • LoL, yeah my intention was to give you one if you wanted. And no, I didn't need anything in return, thats silly. Its good to hear you have one.

Still have 3 spare codes though.

        • I love this community. Just about everyone I've met is selfless despite us all wanting to get the best deals we can possibly get!

          @Eon-Rider:

Bah, thats not selfless. Thats just being a human being. Nothing special about it. Social Policy. Simple stuff.

        • Mind if i get one of the codes?

          thanks

  • I have tons of games. But. Alas. I am a lazyface. None (bar Animal Crossing new leaf for a free copy of SM3DL) have been registered, and I don't seem to have gotten one of these magic codes.

  • I have got codes for all 3. If anyone wants a monster Hunter code, let me know, I will send tomorrow

  • Its cool the demo has multiplayer online with randoms.

I find it really interesting there is some kind of super easy mode in there, this is new. Anyone know if the western release is going to come with this option in the main game? I'm fine if there is more scaling, not sure if I want segmentation of the playerbase though.

    • Haven't heard anything about it. Hope there isn't.

Need to get some hunters together and hunt the big boy.

Dammit Cake, where did you go.

      • Have you seen it in the demo though? The easy option is far easier than MH has ever been.

        • You mean the new player vs veteran? I think thats just for the demo as there isn't any introduction quests.

Add me on 3DS in prep for MH4U people!

I'll be on tonight for a while if you want to take down the Magala. Tried it with my 8yp soon last night, he ran away like a little girl lol. He's OK with the slow behemoths but the quick aggressive monsters make him squeal/run.

I was at work last night. but yes, Magala, I wish to defeat that. I think I might get the MH4 3DS. Still trying to find an MM one. I want both :(

        • @heywes: I have both ordered myself.

        • @Where's_That_Cake:

          I hate you.

        • @heywes: muhahahahaha

        • @heywes: keep getting search failed error?

        • @Where's_That_Cake:

          it crashed now soloimg lol

        • @heywes: ok week I've made another room, but it's filling with randoms

        • @Where's_That_Cake:

really? i tried to join random ones but couldnt. almost done i thinjk

        • @heywes: 36 0090 0594 1922

Full game is easier to join apparently, you can just go to friends list and join friends lobbies from there.

        • @Where's_That_Cake:

Ahk. It kept crashing when I tried. I had a feeling they would have the full game working like MH3U.

        • @heywes:
Pretty sure you can put a pass code lock on your game.

The demo is quite easy since all the characters are geared up but I had to join multiplayer to kill the black dragon.

        • @leonheart1: someone joined me using the glaive. We lost though.

        • @Where's_That_Cake:

It took me like 5 goes before I realised that they had moved the special ability trigger to the touch screen. I was having trouble working out how the switch sword/shield worked.

        • @RI4V4N:

Not sure what you mean by special ability, I'm a long sworder so I only need X, A and R.

It also took me a while to find out running was zR on the n3ds though. Pretty cool how they're actually using the extra buttons.

        • @leonheart1:

I mean like the charge for the spear, or the sword change for the sword/shield etc. Theres a tiny button at the top right corner of the touch screen.

  • I have 3 codes for use too if anyone wants one, pm me, I will get back to you

    • 1 more code left

Yes! I've been wondering this for so long but haven't been able to find a simple solution …until now!

Home screen > Settings > NNID settings > Page 2 > Email preferences

I used to receive these promotional emails but I figured I might have accidentally unsubscribed to them years ago since I didn't get any Smash, Pokemon or MH4U codes. Hopefully this works for any future giveaways!

    • Decided to look then and mine was on "Opt Out" and I never received any of the demo codes. I'll give this a try and see what happens. Thanks for the info!

  • It's not just via your Nintendo Network ID.

When the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire demo codes were given out, I got two. One to my gmail and one to my hotmail, even though only one is connected to my NNID. My footer of the email sent to my gmail (not connected to my NNID) says "If you wish to unsubscribe from this newsletter, please click here." Whereas the one sent to my hotmail says "This email has been sent to the email address which you registered to your Nintendo Network ID. If you wish to unsubscribe from Nintendo Network newsletters, please click here."

I think the newsletter my gmail is subscribed to is the Members Club, seen here: http://www.nintendo.com.au/index.php?pageID=58&action=regist…

I've had a significantly less than great time every time I've had to deal with Nintendo Australia support, so I really hope it's sorted with the reset. Keep in mind that not everyone gets every offer. I didn't get any demo codes except OR/AS, which as I said I got on both accounts so it can't be related to how much you've registered on Club Nintendo. I think it's unfortunately completely random allocation. Your best bet would be to (intentionally, not accidentally like me :P) sign up one account to the newsletter and connect another to your Nintendo Network ID.

    Good luck!

    • Thanks! I redeemed the top code, but the middle one said it was already used, just as a tip for anyone else.
