  • "backup cheap wrist watch"- hate to say this, but how about use a mobile phone?

agreed. Anything that's not classical (as in spring driven) watch shouldn't be worn. Cmon guys, oz bargain spirit… But some style maybe? :)

      • +2

Find me a mechanical one that has all the prettiness and night-readability of my Smith & Wesson Tritium Aviator at a reasonable price. I'd love to switch to a 'proper' watch, but my tastes make for a very expensive mechanical replacement. :(

        • Define reasonable price.

        • @ilikeit: Like $300-350.
The S&W cost me $150, and I'd think that the jump to mechanical would be no more than $150-200. That's usually the case, until you start to add in tritium hour markers and hands.. then the markup becomes extraordinary. Much more of a jump from an electronic movement with markers to a mechanical with markers than the equivalent movement change on non-tritium watches.

        • @Pinchie: I have a Maratac Pilot and the super-luminova is powerful when charged. Obviously it won't last all night as tritium does. http://www.countycomm.com/maratacpilotlarge.html

@ilikeit: This one seems more the style of my current watch, and a very good price.. but I've come to love that tritium. It's one of those things that was really a yuppy-style feature I treated myself to, but now that I've had it for a few years I think I'd really miss not having it.

        • @Pinchie:
I too like the tritium watches and really like the Nite watches from the UK.
Full Swiss movements and a brilliantly made watch.
They have some specials on refurbished and media samples if anyone is interested

        • @Pinchie: where did you get the S&W for $150?

        • @morpheu: Just searched my e-mail history. Buffalo Gap Outfitters, although they don't seem to sell watches anymore :(
Cost me $143+$15 shipping back in 2008.

        • @Pinchie: just had a quick look, they have 2 Wenger watches about the same price but unfortunately, not Tritium illumination which is why i was interested!

  • Three sub-dials are for decoration only!. Hope everything else is for real. Great price if it is.

  • yuck! I'm a watch fan & this is an abomination. do your self a favor.. if you go cheap, buy a seiko. at least it is still a good watch.

      Favour.

    • I just wonder how could you have this on your wrist and look at it to tell the time, and have those "3 sub dials are for decoration only" looking back at you.
And then think - hmm "Very cool fashion and gentlemanly design".

      On what planet ?

      • I suspect that a watch with multi-planet time zones is going to cost you a bit more than this one.

How can I be sure it's an Authentic ORIANDO?

    • +1

It takes a close examination of the chrome covered plastic body to differentiate it from its cheaper imitations.

    • It's almost certainly a rolex, not a genuine oriando. I got one of these from bali last year with 'rolex' on it. It lasted me the holiday. It's dead now :)

  • I reckon you'll need a back up for your "backup." Watches are never measured in cm either, always mm …tsk, tsk.

El-cheapo analog watches break easily compared to digital watches of similar value.

I bought about six of them for a song during my trip to Malaysia (got talked into buying watches at a 'Pasar Malam") and so far, 2 of the 3 analog watches have failed, but the digital ones are still OK.

They go all the way up to 400 on the Tackymeter… the gold+gold one particularly!

  • What's the bet that this is a chinese made knock-off that's the poorest quality that can be. There's no way you'd get a non fake stainless steel watch for $4.98.

  • +1

Replacing the battery at my local shop costs me more, what can I say? :o

    From the description:

The 3 sub dials are for decoration only

I think its going to look fairly tacky if you look at it closely at all

    • +1

You can tell a watch is a damn poor fake when the sub dials are painted on.

Tell me would you peoples be proud wearing a known fake watch out in public?.
