Cashrewards Is It All That It's Cracked up to Be?

Ok today I checked my cash rewards account cause I was signing up to Telechoice ($25 cashback per sale) and I saw that Most of my payments from early November from Chain reaction are still pending and my purchase from wiggle was declined. Is this the norm for the cashbacks or is it just a problem with wiggle and chain reaction. I only opened it as I was about to make some significant purchases and thought I would get some back from the basterds. It seems like a total waste of time, I thought I would just let the funds sit there for a rainy day, I didn't think it was going to take more than 3 months.

  • Agree - bought xbone nov 1… Still waiting to access money. Asked them to follow up and they say they cant, its up to the retailer. I reckon it will come through as its from microsoft but id be wary of smaller companies

  • Is it 'all that its cracked up to be'?
I guess that depends on your expectations.
If you think it will be a fantastic new source of income = no.
If you accept it is a bit hit and miss and slow but any cashback is better than no cashback at all - then yes.

    • Agreed. I view it as a possible bonus, not a sure thing. Typically, the cash back is on top of the best price I can find, so it isn't like I am choosing the supplier based on the cashback.

  • Generally my experience with them has been positive. I have had to chase up transactions that havent posted as pending though. And they have always managed to find them within 2 weeks. My only gripe is a Tarotcash purchase I made in July and STILL hasn't cleared, Ive raised this with them at least 4-5 times, and they keep saying they are waiting for the retailer and sometimes the retailers are slow to process. The weird thing is another tarot cash purchase from August was paid almost immediately.

  • I've had a large number of no issue cashbacks, several that have required follow up and one reasonably large transaction that the retailer blatantly refused to pay (they were removed from the system after that). Per above posts I think it should be viewed as a bonus and not a guarantee - still I know the frustration of being cheated out of a $20-30 cash back, it bites hard.

Jason, I dont believe it should be regarded as a bonus, as its an offer they make, that you accept, so you are 100% reasonably entitled to the cashback.

I understand what you are saying, but the cashback people just pass through the rebate they get from vendor. If the vendor says "no" then there really isn't an avenue for appeal.
Dan Murphy's denied the cashback on transactions that benefitted from the AMEX $50 rebate, for example. That deal got me beer at a price cheaper than available anywhere else, and I would have still made the purchase with no cashback, but it is annoying that some transactions are declined at the stores whim.
Getting angry at cash rewards probably won't achieve anything. Ultimately, all they can do is stop featuring a vendor, and I would rather get some cash backs from Dan Murphy's, again for example, than have them removed and get none at all.

    • I'm in the same boat. I'm still chasing up a close to $20 cash back from a transaction from July/August last year. Every time I contact them, they either say they're still chasing up the store (which has obviously refused to pay) or give me the silent treatment). While I do not pay more for the same product just so that I get the cash reward, I don't consider the cash reward as a mere bonus because it is what I've signed up for by making a purchase via them rather than any other cash back/ reward point site, directly from that store or even from another store.

  • I withdrew about $5 so far. Followed up one transaction with BCF that didn't track, took about a month and they sent me an email confirming the store paid the cashback. Now I am waiting on a MS store $20 cashback which I followed up a few weeks ago, I hope they can get that confirmed soon as it helped me pull the trigger on the Xbox Deals at Christmas time.

    • Haha me too buddy… Nov 1 i bought xbone. 90 days will be in a week or so…

  • I joined a few month ago and made first transactions early november. I am still not able to access any rewards. Not sure I will both with it again

  • Andrew here from Cash Rewards, we are currently working with our most popular store partners to significantly shorten approval times, we hope to have this implemented within the next 30 days, meantime always happy to have any OzB's contact us through https://www.cashrewards.com.au/contact or PM me here and we will endeavour to fast track your approvals and resolve any issues you have encountered, any feedback at all is also really appreciated. We will also be looking into all issues raised on this discussion and contacting members individually to resolve.

    • Thanks for replying Andrew. I sent an email yesterday a few hours before this post, well I contacted you through the website.

    • Well, Andrew, you seems to be the only person responding to messages.

After not having heard from your colleague since early Dec (re a long outstanding transaction if you recall), I emailed her to see what's happening exactly a week ago and, so far, I haven't received any response, not even an acknowledgement. I didn't get any out of office message so I presume she's back at work after the holiday.

      • I'd really like to look into this. Can you PM me your Cash Rewards email login address so I can follow through with our customer support team as to why you didn't receive a reply.

        • I contacted you on OzB back in Nov (see your PM). Your colleague responded to me once immediately after that and has since gone quiet.

        • So I PM'ed you my email a couple of days ago. what's going on?

        • @frondono:sorry I had been told you had been contacted about this, will follow up first thing after the weekend.

  • they are pretty good. I just have to remember to chase them up after 90 days and they promptly approved the cashbacks.

  • You shouldn't have to chase us up. Sorry about this. We are currently talking to all our major store partners and most of them are agreeing to speed up their approval times significantly. You should be able to notice big improvements from next week and progressively faster approvals on most stores over the next few months.

I haven't seen any improvement - I'm still waiting and chasing up

  • Looks like this thread has forced some action. I got paid just inside 90 days. Disappointing but it appears that you have to push them to action. It seems they hold your money long as they can.

  • I would like to know about how Cash Rewards works.

  • Anything in particular? You can find out how it works here http://www.cashrewards.com.au/faq Basically if you re not shopping through cashrewards you are missing out on cash rebates available for shopping as normal at hundreds of stores

    • I'm more interested what members say.

    • eBay transactions in particular. I can go through the referral links on cashrewards site for Surfstitch etc. but since eBay is a site with many different sellers, when and how is cashrewards registered? Does my cash back amount depend on the eBay seller I purchase from?

  • I have "pending payments" since November last year. I have written to Cash Rewards twice trying to follow up - but I don't get any response

  • Well, I am still waiting for my Microsoft cashback..

    not real impressed by this

  • We have a few very slow paying stores and Microsoft is one of them. We will shortly be removing any slow paying stores of which Microsoft is one unless they are able to commit to faster payment times.

  • Definitely a SCAM

I booked a few hotels through booking.com when Cashrewards.com.au was ruuning $15 cashback per booking promotion. After I completed my trip I found there was only one booking of $15 cashback registered as pending. I contacted Cashrewards.com.au and was told it would take them 30 to 90 days to process, despite I provided every single screenshot and hotel invoices.

90 dayss expired a few weeks ago and there was no update. Not only I don't have my supposed cashback, the only registered $15 cashback was declined.

It's been two weeks since I emailed them and there has been no response at all.

    • Cash Rewards is definitely not a scam. Members have been paid out over $1 million in cashback in the last 6 months.

The issue has been that booking.com have rejected paying rewards to anyone who had booked multiple nights at the same hotel in separate bookings.

Some members made up to 10 separate bookings for a 10 night stay at the same hotel.

The booking.com system has identified any bookings made from an IP address that made multiple bookings as fraud and this has held up the payments of rewards in those instances. Their system has picked up that making multiple bookings is not 'normal behaviour' and dishonoured these bookings.

Please be assured we are still following up booking.com on these rewards for our members however this issue has significantly slowed processing time.

    • I have received over $260 cash back so far. Great site…

  • Yeah, it's approaching 90 days for my Microsoft claim and not even a "pending" yet in my account. I don't think i'll be seeing it to be honest. Shame, because I had used CashRewards on a few eBay purchases and they always tracked, and I was able to withdraw about $5 a while ago.

  • I didn't receive my cashback despite following the instructions on their website (e.g. not visiting other sites between clicking on the ‘Go To Store’ link and making a purchase). When I contacted Cash Rewards I was told that the merchant had not recorded any clicks via Cash Rewards on the day of my purchase. Hard to know where the problem lies.

    • I have had similar issue before and when I contacted CR, they were able to tell that I visited the merchant's site via their site on the day of purchase.

      • is there anyway to tell if I have gone through the CR website to get to the other store?

        • I'm not aware of any way for you to check it yourself but apparently CR can tell if you've gone to another site via their site.

    • Are your cookies enabled? There is a prompt to check they are before clicking through

      • Yes, I have cookies enabled. Was using Opera - might try using a different browser if I use Cash Rewards again (though I'm not sure if that would make a difference?)

  • My eBay purchase from 06 May is still pending. That's roughly 2 and a bit months back.

    • That's not uncommon. I found that CR often takes a lot longer to clear transactions than say Virgin / Qantas eStore.

  • still waiting on cash back from a telstra deal last year, hasnt really filled me with confidence about using it ever again to be honest!
Was curious how many people have had similar things happen and i guess its more than a few.

    • I've got some credits for Dan Murphys from September and December from last year that have yet to be approved.
I'm not sure why you wouldn't use cashrewards though. I mean, if you click it first you may end up getting your percent discount, or maybe it will take a long time or be denied. But it never costs more to use them than not, as far as I have seen.

I agree it would be a bad idea to make a purchase decision on the expectation you will be getting cashrewards, as it is not guaranteed, and often takes a long time. It is a nice bonus, however, and I have withdrawn $150 in the last couple of years. That is quite a few eneloops.

      • thats true and all, youre absolutely no worse off using it than if you were but the whole process is just very cumbersome and having to visit the site before making any purchases is a bit much especially after considering the wait in hopes of getting the reward. Most things i buy on eBay are a spur of the moment thing and having to go through the site is a hassle. Having said all that i am well aware how petty it all sounds but it would be a great help if they streamlined the process involved and more importantly the ridiculous wait times involved for a credit to be released.

But absolutely more power to you and those it does actually work for, its always nice to get a little reward for something these days and you can never have enough of those eneloops! lol

    Cashrewards is a scam.

They have the same business model as PayPal. They sell your purchase preferences/data to third parties who then hit you with BS marketing offers.

The thing that separates them from PayPal is their "we are only here to help you" pitch as it is even bigger BS.

You are not going to get free money because you bought something via their web site. Grow up!

We have emailed many of the businesses they quote and none of them will admit to be involved with them.

    • +1

      What are you talking about?
Cashrewards rebate a portion of affiliate payments/commissions. I don't know if they on-sell customer data, but they definitely pay the rebates they advertise.

      • -2

        @mskeggs,

You should declare yourself as an employee of Cashwards or a paid "dupe" if you are here to defend/support them.

I have contacted a number of the claimed so called affiliates and none, that is NONE of them, would admit ANY relationship with Cashrewards.

Here's a challenge why don't you pick half a dozen of the claimed affiliates and contact them yourself and see if they admit/agree that they are aware of or support in any way the claimed cashback offers that Cashrewards claims.

Let us all know the answers you get.

        Good luck with that.

        • The suspicision is not on Cashrewards or mskeggs, but rather on you. Only 2 comments EVER made on OzBargain, and both in this thread, which happens to be over 2 years old. Why not list the 'affiliates' you have contacted, including contact numbers and names for transparency?

        • +3

I've posted 6000+ comments here under my own name, so I reckon I have reasonable credibility.
I can confirm to you that I don't and have never worked for Cashrewards. I have used the site as a normal customer since August 2014.
In that time I have withdrawn over $200 from their system, which landed in my bank account without issue.
I have also opened half a dozen or so cases where a sale has failed to track, always with a positive outcome so far.

I can confirm I have received cashback from ebay, Dan Murphy's, Winemarket, Cellarmasters, Gearbest, Aliexpress, Amcal, Chemist Warehouse, Amaysim, Apple, Groupon, DealsDircet and others.
I suppose I could call up their call centre and ask some poor rep about their affiliate arrangements, but considering I have the financial proof in my bank account, I think that is better evidence of whether Cashrewards is legitimate or not.

Cashrewards can be very slow, and can sometimes be inaccurate, but I haven't seen them misrepresent themselves.

        • @tightarse:

So you, as a lackey of Cashrewards, get to judge the "validity" of people/customers who post comments on this independent forum, based upon how many post they have made?

The fact that mskeggs has had the time in their busy life to meander through the various OZBargain Forums and post over 6000+ comments, irrespective of the actual value of those comments, is your criteria of what is a valid independent comment???

mskeggs apparently does not even know how you = Cashrewards make your money?

"Why not list the 'affiliates' you have contacted, including contact numbers and names for transparency?"

Why don't you list the "affiliates" who really know anything about you organization and their business relationship with Cashrewards and are prepared to admit it?

        • @mskeggs:

Seriously, claiming that you have posted over 6000+ comments, irrespective of their actual value, worth or validity, does not justify your claim of credibility. Kinda sad though.

Enjoy your life and move on. Cashrewards in not Nirvana!

    • @laopa - total rubbish! I'm definately getting free money. How do you explain that I have received hundreds of dollars from CR? I haven't been hit with marketing offers

  • +1

I just withdrew the $50 i had available out of $90 i had banked up, Not everything gets recorded, especially some bigger purchases which is annoying but it definitely works.
