RIP Club Nintendo. I will miss (kek) you!

Just need to tell people my story to get it off my chest. I am a Nintendo fan and own many games. In 2010 Nintendo announced Club Nintendo PIN codes would expire 5 years from their original date of release and 36 months after you have registered them on Club Nintendo. It was OK for them to create the 5-year rule but I wrongly believed it only took effect for new software. I did not want to register my games unless I absolutely wanted to claim an item on Club Nintendo since they would one day expire if I didn't use them (I know 36 months is a long time but I did not expect Club Nintendo to cease in 2015). Unfortunately whenever a new and cool item would appear on Club Nintendo I would often miss it because they understock them and it is a fight to the death to get one. The SNES Wii controller and golden nunchuk were the only cool prizes I ever got. I have missed the Luigi's Mansion diorama, the Luigi coin, numerous soundtracks, Mario Kart trophies, Mario Kart 8 badges etc.

Upon hearing on 20th January that Club Nintendo was closing down toward the end of this year I was reminded that the 20th was also the last day to register both Super Smash Bros 3DS & Wii U versions to claim a free soundtrack. I am rather forgetful and had already registered the Wii U version but forgotten to do the 3DS version so I was lucky to get this reminder… but really I wasn't lucky. The 3DS version's points were missing. I had not removed it myself and noone has had access to my game so either it was stolen in store or they forgot to put it in. So now I have pissed that opportunity up the wall I thought I would register all my games and at least choose some prizes.

80% of my games registered correctly except for the games released prior to 2010 as well as some 3DS games due to reason "PIN code expired". Now, the 5 year rule on pre-2010 games I understand (although I still disagree with it) however the 3DS was released in Australia in March 2011 which means it is not even 4yo yet. The games did not come out 1.5 years before the system!

So last night I was making a list of what I want including the Mario premium trading cards for 2000 stars and some other items. I was doing survey after survey where the answers are the same however they constantly jumble the order so it takes time to do the survey. I was so bored and tired I went to bed and resumed today. Low and behold, the Mario cards are gone. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Anyway I think I should wrap this story up and tell you a little about myself. I am a male in his twenties and if you see me walking down the street please say hi! I'm the guy with Mario shoelaces and rocking a Yoshi backpack.

Yeah, Australia's Club Nintendo rewards are pretty much worthless. I got the face towels last week when I heard they were closing down. No big loss, at least for me.

I'm sorry for your lose, however I think this may be exactly the opportunity you needed to start taking an interest in girls and maybe growing up a little. And this is coming from a guy that played WoW religiously until I was 25, so I know the place you are coming from.

  • Remember, they are planning to put up more items over the months until it ends, September 30 is ages away. I wouldn't be panicking just yet.

  • I always ignored those little Club Nintendo cards in my DS games until the other day when I saw the club was being discontinued and took a peek at what was on offer. I regret ignoring those cards now =/ Nintendo was offering some nifty things - the Mario Cards looked awesome! Sorry to see you missed out on them too Guybrush57.

I always assumed the gifts were going to be some cheap rubbish and that you would have to buy a thousand games just to save up enough points to get a single lousy item.

I dug out all my old game boxes (even found the card for my 3DS) and ended up with a small stack of cards. From those I managed to scrape together 1950 points - just 50 shy of those Mario cards, gahh! XD A whole bunch of my cards had apparently expired even though the games they came from seemed to appear on the list of eligible games I found (although I can't seem to find the list anymore). I also seemed to get less points than what was mentioned in the list which is a bummer, but no matter what I end up getting I'll be happy ^_^ I'm glad I signed up before the club was gone for good!

Congrats on the Yoshi backpack and Mario shoelaces! :)

    • Some of the recent games have a 50star survey a short while after you register to see what you think of it.
