Old Monitor died. Suggestions for a new one? No gaming.

I purchased this tower to replace my old Dell and have been using the old monitor which has finally died so I need a new monitor.
I don't do any gaming, it's really just for basic Internet usage and sorting through family photos and videos.
Cheaper the better.

  • So what's its output? hdmi?

how big do you want the screen to be?

I'd just buy the cheapest mainstream brand screen in the store. Samsung, Asus, Acer etc/

There is a umart on the GC

  • yea , gotta tell the people how much u want to spend and how big the screen has to be , then they can find the best one for that price/size.

  • +2

Cheaper is not necessarily better, and I'd suggest getting the most expensive monitor you can justify to get the best quality and longevity out of it.

As an example a cheapo monitor might be $xyz, but for +$20 extra you get a flicker free IPS monitor vs a TN panel which can make a world of difference if colour is important (esp sorting through family photos and videos).

A former manager once told me he cannot understand why some businesses buy the cheapest office equipment, when you consider that we spent most of our day at work, working and using these things.

Obviously for home use this may be different but there is nothing more annoying than buying something and 6 months later circumstances changing and you go to yourself 'I wish I spend $20 extra on that motherboard and now I'd have those extra SATA ports that I actually need' (speaking from experience here)

In terms of size, 24" 1080P monitors probably offer the best bang for buck and I've bought some nice benQ IPS panel monitors (for work) at around $190 a few months ago (before the AU dollar fell)….

As Davo suggested, umart is a good place to start.

  • If you have tv with hdmi or vga connection just buy cable and connect with tv no need monitor use your tv as monitor.

    • I actually set it up like this the other day with the PC tower sitting next to TV cabinet.
Works well and may just leave it there. Can't seem to get sound out of HDMI though so using RCA.

  • I really like Dell monitors, they are pretty well built and their software is really good. Not the cheapest, but I like them, have 0 problem with them.
