UPDATE 17/9 2:20PM AEST: Just to update everyone on the progress. We are currently assembly and testing systems at the rate of 50 per day - although progress was slower in the past two days as we aggregated parts and sorted through specifics for everyone's order (such as upgrades). We are on track to have everyone system dispatched by the end of this week as mentioned previously. Apologies for the wait and thank you for your patience!

UPDATE 15/9 5:00PM AEST:
TL:DR Version: Sale extended until midnight, not all the orders can be assembled and tested within 48 Hours, if your order is urgent, contact us please.

Ok everyone - some good news and some bad news. The good news is that due to the payment issues that eBay has been experiencing, we've decided to extend our offer until just before midnight tonight.

The bad news is that due to the unprecedented number of orders, it is likely that we won't be able to assemble and dispatch everyone's order within 48 hours. Those who have ordered and paid will shortly be receiving an e-mail, the draft of which I will post below:

First of all, I'd like to take the opportunity to thank you for purchasing a desktop system with us, we appreciate your support. The past few days have been unprecedented for PC Byte as a fledging company, we have received over two hundred system orders in the span of 48 hours, on top of order for other parts, peripherals and accessories, a number beyond our wildest imaginations and we have you to thank for it. So thank you.

Each PC Byte system is lovingly hand-built and tested, right here in our offices in Silverwater, Sydney. Our goal is to deliver a system that has been properly assembled and tested and our emphasis has always been on quality and not quantity. That is why you are receiving this e-mail because we need your help and understanding. The unprecedented number of orders means that it is likely we will be unable to meet our advertised lead time of 48 hours for assembly and dispatch - of course, we could churn out a hundred systems a day, but there would be little guarantee that it would be assembled with care and no time to ensure that it is tested properly - to our standards. So, with that in mind, we ask you to do the following:

  1. If you are happy for your system to be dispatched within five working days - there is no need for you to do anything :)
  2. If you need your system in a hurry - please drop us an eBay message. If you are looking at a specific time frame, please include it.

Rest assured, all system orders will be honoured, and, in the unlikely event that stocks of particular parts run out, we will contact you with an offer for a comparable alternative part or a full refund - although we do not anticipate that this will be necessary.

Thank you again for your support, understanding and patience in this time and, on behalf of the team, I'd like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the delay on our end.
We hope that your experience purchasing with us will be a pleasant one and we look forward to serving you again in the future.

UPDATE 13/9 10:30PM AEST: Phew, just got off the plane and I have a bunch of messages from my colleagues to update the post with the following systems. Please note that these are not intended to be 'super' deals. These are intended to be for those who want to take advantage of eBay's 15% off promotion:

  1. Processor: Intel i3/i5/i7 - see below
  2. RAM: Crucial 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 (CT102464BA160)
  3. Motherboard: AsRock H81M DGS R2.0
  4. HDD: Western Digital Blue 1TB
  5. Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX750Ti 2GB
  6. ODD: Lite-On DVD Burner (iHAS324)
  7. PSU: CoolerMaster Thunder 600W PSU
  8. Case: Armaggeddon TOMO T100

Intel i3-4160 w/o Windows 8.1 for $619
Intel i3-4160 w/ Windows 8.1 for $729

Intel i5-4590 w/o Windows 8.1 for $709
Intel i5-4590 w/ Windows 8.1 for $809

Intel i7-4790 w/o Windows 8.1 for $829
Intel i7-4790 w/ Windows 8.1 for $929

Price Comparison in comments below. Why aren't these all around the $667 mark? My, that's a very good question. I'll leave Peter to answer this one (see what happens when I step on a plane for a few hours?)

Anyways - Happy shopping everyone! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to enjoy my break :P

UPDATE 12/9 11:33PM: Hello all, thanks for the great response! :) We looking forward to building and sending out these systems, and, to be completely honest with you, Peter's currently sweating at the prospect of how many systems the team will have to build to fulfil the demand. It's fair to say that the interest in this deal greatly exceeded our expectations and we may have to make some adjustments to the system specifications as sales are made to ensure we can fulfil the demand (especially if stocks of particular components run low, we may have to substitute it or, especially in the case of the bonus WiFi adapters, omit it altogether). Peter will comment below should that occur and (as always) the eBay listing will always accurately reflect what is currently on offer. Do take the opportunity to hit refresh and have a quick glance at the latest listing before making your purchase - particularly if you are making your order later on Sunday / Monday.

Please also bear with us if there is any delays in dispatching your order - at this stage we do not anticipate any but if you need your PC in a hurry, you should probably leave us an eBay message with your purchase.

On a side note: I will go overseas to visit family tomorrow so I'll be on a plane most of the day so apologies if there's any delays updating this main post. Peter (if he isn't too stressed out) should be around to answer your questions. He's not a natural at this though so please go easy on him :P

Please note: This deal is provided by the PC Byte eBay team but I am posting it to comply with OzBargain Store Rep Guidelines. The Rep responsible for this deal Peterngu91, please direct all system related questions to him - Let's hope he doesn't get posting quota'd like last time ;)

MechKB also has a sale on Corsair K70/K95 this week. Feel free to have a look :)

    • (Assembly) $25

Total w/ delivery and assembly: $602
Total w/o delivery and assembly: $547

(I've omitted some retailers that have 'interesting' reputations.)

    • +5

Thanks rep! Where does one get assembly done for $25 though? Thought it was more around the $70 mark which is how much MSY costs. Only adds to the deal though!

      • +4

        Hey the69thhokage,

That's right, $25 is our guestimate but, as you point out, the assembly costs vary wildly depending on retailer. :)

    • +1

How do you get 7 different shops to ship you their parts for $30 combined?

      • +25

        You can't :P

The price comparisons are just hypothetical, if I pulled them all from the same store, I'm sure someone would reply that they could get part x or y for cheaper. Doing it this way just to cover all the bases.

        • +9

          good guy roland

      • +15

I'm not too sure of the rational behind this since the upgrades are included? :|

      • +2

I think the store rep has been very generous in his price comparison, doubt too many people would run around sourcing the best hardware prices from that many different retailers. Most people would just shop all at the one place, so his prices are favourable in comparison to the prebuilt system from his store.

      • -1

It's like selling iPhone 5 for $900 with a free upgrade to iPhone 6, and then comparing it to other iphone 6 sellers which are selling it at $1000.

If you're selling it as Product A, then compare prices with other Product A sellers, then add on a free upgrade. Otherwise it's a Product B.

Otherwise you may as well give free upgrades on everything, ie 2GB ram to 8 GB ram, 500GB HDD to 1GB HDD etc.

        Flies away

        • I get where you're coming from, but I believe the Rep's main purpose of that post was to detail the value/worth of the included free upgrades so people can get an idea without working it out themself.

  • +8
    • +7

      Is a good ideal :)
Our deal will last till Monday (15th Sept 2014)

      Cheers :)

      • +4

Can you place Corsair K70 special on Ebay too, for that 15% off Sunday?

        • +3

Heh - I'll put in a request but no promises (out of my hands, sorry!)

        • @Roland Chen: No go on any K70 cherry brown? The ebay discount on top of your current price would be a great deal!

      • +1

will the free upgrades still be available on sunday (i.e. as long as the e-bay listing is active)

        • +1

Yes, our deal will last till Monday (4:30PM, 15th of September 2014) or while stocks last :)

  • +3

    options for Intel combo?

    • Sorry this special pricing is available for this system with this cpu only. Feel free to pm me with the spec that you are looking for and I will see what I can do.

    • +29

      Hey tonyjzx,

I can appreciate that pre-built systems are not for everyone, I'll just note a few things though:

      1. Not everyone has the technical skill to build their own system. There's plenty of people who use computers but don't really want to mess around with the internals. (My parents are a pretty good example.) ;)

      2. Not everyone who can build systems wish to spend the time building and trouble-shooting problems that come up with system builds.

      3. As noted by my colleague above, our system is priced cheaper than if you bought the parts and assembled it yourself!

      Hope that helps!

  • +2

Good deal, but wow that case is ugly!

      • +1

It looks ok to me, but then again I'm not one to worry about the look of my PC. Let's be honest no one cares what your computer looks like, no one.

I take that back, I absolutely refuse to have a power button with LED on it. Kids are drawn to it and must play with shiny things…

        • I thought this until I turned mine around the other day, had all the window / shiny bits facing the wall. My girlfriend said "wow it looks so much better like that you can see all the cool bits" which was unexpected as she is so not interested, she doesn't even have internet connected.

        • +8

@pin4e: *system not intended to impress your gf/potiential gf :P

    • +8

Just put it under the desk :P

I'm not really sure why the guys picked this case either, I'll see if they're willing to put up some alternatives.

      • A SFF case/system would win me over!

      • +1

        +1 to some alternatives please

      • Yes, a different case - not 'gaming' one.

Glad to see too the GC is optional. Can't afford it this time round but will be keeping an eye out for the right sys deal.

        Thanks OP

  • Seems a good deal.
+1 for the rep showing price comparison of other retailers.

  • +12

Not really interested in the deal, but I'm upvoting because the price seems good and the rep is offering excellent communication thus far.

  • +12

Some of the best store reps here

    • +6

      Appreciate it BanSlavery! :)

  • Looking for a gaming/Photoshop PC. This appropriate ?

    • +1

Hey super_sayam, what sort of games do you play? I would recommend considering a discreet graphics card upgrade for gaming.

      • looking towards new releases that are graphic intensive

        • Then dont get this. You need a decent video card and an SSD helps alot!

        • +2

@Cardz: Remember to scroll down the listing as you can always add these in!

    • Haven't been keeping up to date with pc hardware for years, but pretty much intel is where its at from my understanding if you care about gaming performance. Amd used to be the go if you cared about bang for buck, but I don't think that is the case anymore either.

Gpu is more important for gaming, but you want to match it with the appropriate cpu to get the best out of it.

      • +4

I'll let Peter jump in if he likes - AFAIK - games have and continue to be bottle-necked by the GFX more than the CPU - therefore - you don't need a cutting edge CPU for gaming but a decent GPU is crucial. The only exceptions to this (again, AFAIK) are games that are AI heavy - such as strategy games as they can involve a lot of calculations.

  • +6

For people asking if this machine is right for them I'll just say this: If you're not going to spend over $700 then generally yes it is.

Gaming: This is a high value system for you as long as you're not playing anything CPU intensive like skyrim

Photoshop/video editing: The majority of those programs use CPU mainly and this CPU is slightly below mid tier i.e. i3, I would get an i3 at least or an i5 if that is the main purpose of your computer.

Internet browsing/office docs: Sure this'll do just fine, you won't notice a difference except when it starts it might take an extra 5 secs.

    • +1

I think this processor is slightly better than an i3. But no where near as powerful as an i5.

      • +3

Haswell i3 is still better. There is a CPU hierachy here
        https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/21660/g…

This CPU is roughly the equivalent of a Sandy Bridge i3.

If it is the A10 CPU then it's a tier higher and will compete with Haswell i3.

Anyway this computer is significantly better value than the Aldi medion desktop that I posted last month.

        • Old link. The A8 7600 was not even released when that post was written.

CPU World says these are better then a i3 4130
          http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/281/AMD_A8-Series_A8-7600_v…

        • Here are some real benchmarks

          AMD A8

          Intel - Haswell i3

          Intel - Sandy Bridge i3

The Multi-core score on the AMD is slightly better than Core i3 — no doubt quad core beats dual cores — but single performance on the Intel is much higher.

Obviously most apps are not multithreaded and in most scenarios you would actually see the Core i3 performing higher in many other benchmark tests, apart from ones that are optimised for quad cores.

        • +2

Ooh, you play star citizen. Does ozbargain have a guild or something?

        • @Michael15286:

If Ozbargainers played Star Citizen they would be struggling with their budget computers and getting around 20fps on medium settings

  • Hi rep,

what is the ssd brand / model in the upgrade option? (120 and 240)

    • +3

      Hi Kamikara,

      120GB: Samsung 840 evo 120gb ssd
240GB: Sandisk Extreme II 240GB ssd

      Hope this help you :)

      • +2

thanks! very tempted to buy on Sunday!

  • +3

+1 for the price + another +1 for the great responses from reps.

And as the others have said .. wait til sunday!

    • Yeah I doubt you could find any better than this deal for around $400 on Sunday.

  • Hey Rep, I'm looking for a Mid-High end gaming system around the $1500 mark. Can you offer me any deals??

    • Hi Riczter,

Can you drop me a PM with your email address and requirements?

      Thank you.

      • done

  • +1

I am more into a HTPC, but the price and the communication from the rep earn + from me.

  • Hey Rep Could you please swap 1TB to 120G SSD? I will pick it up to save your postage, Please let me know ASAP Thanks very much.

    • Hi maxall,

Sorry this special pricing is available for this system with this specs only. Feel free to pm me with the spec that you are looking for and I will see what I can do.

      Cheers :)

  • +2

Concerning the Corsair K70, do you have the silver aluminum version in stock? if you do could you possibly put that on ebay for the sunday sale as well please? =) (if not then the K90 on ebay, i dislike Red LED backlighting)

    • +1

No Silver brushed atm, sorry JleeLink :(

  • Thinking of getting a new PC. Currently use an AMD 7700 series GPU on my desktop (AMD Phenom 720). Would the 7700 be a bottleneck or should I get a new GPU as well?

    • Hey Itwo,

I'm not the systems guy in the office but I think you'll be able to get more mileage out of that 7700. Depend on what you're playing / planning to play though.

      • Alright, will do more research when I get home. So will we automatically get the free upgrades or do we need to add them as options?

        • Hi Itwo,

While stock last or until monday 4.30PM, they will be included for free. No need to add them to your cart.

  • Hey glad to see you took on my feedback of adding a wireless card ;)

Pity I couldn't upgrade it to 6 core cpu and r9 280 gpu

    • Maybe next time Higibo, you never know ;)

  • +4

i3 / i5 rigs with hd graphics, front usb 3 and win 7 on eBay for Sunday please rep.

    • Let me check with my manager and see what I can do. If you don't hear from me by midday tomorrow - drop me a PM.

      • I'm in for a i5 as well, but without windows.

      • +2

If you can organise an i3/i5 rig deal for this Sunday, it will sell like hotcakes.

        • +1

          Hi mmd,

        • @PeterNgu91: Is this still happening? ^.- I'm still overly excited for the off chance this does happen!

        • Hi Kaiserkid7,

Drop me a PM on your requirements? I'll be heading to bed, back to work tomorrow morning.
I might be able to customize something for you based on your needs.

      • Hi AnophthalmiaCervidae,

Check out our post tonight after 7pm. We are working on something behind the scene, most suppliers are off-work today so it's difficult but we'll make things happen for the entire range!
Bear with us, I know many is waiting to take the 15%/$100 off savings under eBay's 15th specials.

*Note: We'll release with OS & without OS listings, to be updated on our post.

        Stay tuned!

  • Put all that in a Cougar Spike 5SS7 case instead of a Huntkey and you got a winner.

    Looks better too

    • Hi gastronomic,

Feel free to drop me a message if your looking for a different case and I will see if I can source it for you.

  • +2

    I'm so excited for Sunday

  • +1

Still wont make me jump to this deal but positive from me for the communication to all potential customers

  • +1

Having said that this will be hard to resist on sunday lol

    Damn ozb!

  • Is this machine any good for audio recording?
I want a PC that I can leave in my garage and plug a 16 track USB audio interface into so I can track my jam sessions, and do a bit of studio work on the side.
My main DAW is Cubase. Could this machine handle 30+ audio tracks with effects etc?

    • Hey Rastafarian, I must admit I'm not too familiar with studio recording. I will have to look into it, perhaps some others can answer :)

    • My main DAW is Cubase.

The question is which version, and whether Cubase can effectively use multiple cores.
this will determine whether you're going to want a Intel or AMD FX processor (AMD is generally, a little behind in terms of per-core performance, and APU's are not really the thing you're going to want for a workstation build)

      This may be of relevance

only 1 sold as many positives?

    • +6

      Hi Davo93,

I think they are all waiting for 15% off on Sunday ;)

    • +1

The waiting game for 15% off eBay on Sunday

  • Ah so many specs, so little knowledge. shucks

Say I want to play games like The Sims etc, good enough?

  • Anyone know if this would be okay as a multimedia PC? Mostly to be used for movies + music, maybe a little bit of gaming for my son (Diablo 3 + SC2).

    • +1

It is a relatively good all rounder PC. Gaming performance is what I'd consider borderline tolerable, but AMD designed the chipset so that it's internal graphics can be used alongside certain AMD video cards, such as the R7 250.

      http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/AMD-A8-7600-Kave…

    • For your chosen games it'll run them easily. The CPU may struggle in SC2 in unit heavy custom maps or mass zerg skirmishes.

      • Or ultra late game 4v4
        1600 supply of voidrays :DD

  • Hope you will let us know if stock is running low :)

    • +2

Hey MikeInside, we'll do our best but - at this rate - it looks like we're going to get ozbargained come Sunday so we'll see how we go :P

  • I'm thinking of getting one of these for my kids for homework, plus they like to play games like Shogun 2, Civ 5 and all its expansions etc. I think I'll upgrade the GPU but the CPU should be fine for these types of games right?

    • Not sure about Shogun 2 - because Civ 5 is turn based, it tends to be a lot more forgiving to sluggish performance, just my personal experience playing it on my laptop :P
