Wanted: Cheap moving truck in Victoria to rent - Any ideas?

I am moving house next weekend and looking for a cheap moving truck. I have checked Hertz, Budget, Thrifty,… but they ask for insane amounts of money. Is there a cheaper option? Preferred location to rent is somewhere between Traralgon and the Melbourne.

TIA

  • Define "insane"?

I went on thrify and did a 2 day hire from dandenong. A ford transit van was $200, and a 3 tonne truck is $400. A 9 tonne truck is 430 but you need a higher license for that.

You get 200km free, and it looks like one round trip would be 325km, so the penalty for the 3 tonne would be $45.

So you can hire a 3 tonne for 48 hours, $445 + fuel. Or a transit van for <$250… I dont think that's too bad.

EDIT: budget is even cheaper for the 3 tonne, $360 + $31 penalty + fuel for 2 days

  • Try Europcar Dandenong when i searched prices for a FUSO CANTER 4.2M MOVING VAN 48hrs weekends came up as $290 and 48hrs weekdays as $196.01 https://www.europcar.com.au/DotcarClient/stepExtras.action
Dont forget to add $75 for 48hrs insurance and that overhead damage is not covered.
Do you really need the truck for 2 days? You will be amazed what they carry.
Just a note for anyone hiring a truck or van in the future check more than one site for the same company as there prices are site specific. As an example The above truck is $361 for 48hrs next weekend and yet $195.82 for 48hrs weekdays from their St Kilda road depot

  • Thanks guys, found a decent deal. For some reason everything i was able to find last time turned out to be around $600.-
