Help with Bank Issued- American Express Cards When AmEx Promotions Are Not Honoured

Hi,
I have a anz issued American Express card and registered for the Recent dan murphy promotion. Spend $50 x3 and get $50 statement credit. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/165449

I got the qualitfying email from amex and made the required purchase but didn't get my $50 credits. I've registered for similar promotions before and never had a problem. So now, I'm trying to chase up for my credits but American Express says it's a ANZ issued card so they can't access it and do anything. When I call ANZ they say it is not their promotion and can't do anything. Rang up a few time and not getting any help at all.

Do anyone know who to go to seek assistance for this situation? I think I wouldn't be the only person with this situation. The banks are just pushing the problem to each other and not offering any solution.

Any help or info will be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hey man,

    Your issue is quite of an annoying one and you probably won't like my answer. Usually Amex promo's are based on Amex issued cards. Getting an Amex card through a bank like CBA, NAB or you case ANZ voids any promotions.

    • This promotion states it is valid for Bank issued-Amex card. Your comment is exactly what one of the american express rep said when I called up which is not correct as my other family member got the same type of anz issued credit card registered for the promotion and received their credit. Keeps on insisting that if ANZ don't recognize this promotion, the terms and condition of the ANZ cards overrides the Amex promotion.

      • oh my bad. I've just been told the same by other OZ-members in the past.

  • I got the $50 credit twice through my two Anz Amex cards so not sure why you got ripped

      I also got the $50 credit with my ANZ Amex card.
      Try this link https://www316.americanexpress.com/iFormsSecure/un/iforms.do…
      They are usually very quick to resolve the issue.

      • Thanks! Finally found this form. Initially when I was logged in and it wouldn't let me contact via their email form as it need me to register a valid AMEX issued only credit card and could not for a bank issued-AMEX card.

      • Hi that was useful information. I didn't get a shop small credit when I was supposed to.
        Amex credited manually for my amex issued card, and told me to contact the bank for my bank issued card. When I did my bank told me to contact amex. Was going to give up but used that contact link and now all sorted.

  • I've had similar issue in the past and i emailed them through their website (amex connect) > contact us section. took them a month or so but got sorted in the end. try that and hope they fix it for you.

    • Hi, Thanks for your information. I went to the website and had a closer look and found the contact us form and sent in a request. Initially when I did this I was logged in and it wouldn't let me contact via email as it need me to register a valid AMEX issued only credit card and could not for a bank issued-AMEX card.

    Sorry to hear your predicament OP.

    Given the promotion was with AMEX, I'd ask them more forcefully and ignore ANZ. Get a copy of your ANZ statement (highlight the relevant transactions) and the AMEX confirmation email from registration. Write to them and indicate that given you've followed all the requirements, its time to cough up the credit.

    The Dan Murphy T&Cs page is offline as the promotion has concluded, and it is not cached by Google or the Internet Archive. That's a pain, but I'm pretty sure it'd be very similar to another promotion for Bank Issued Cards which could help you write a complaint letter. The two major bits I've excerpted are the postal address of the competition, and the exact eligibility for bank issued cards.

    If this doesn't work, you might try a government complaint. While there is no mention in the T&Cs I've provided of competition registration in NSW (where the contract is based), there's a small chance that the department in charge of that might be interested, or someone like the ACCC or the Financial Ombudsman Service can help.

    The Offer is provided by American Express Australia Limited (ABN 92 108 952 085 Australian Credit Licence No. 291313) of 12 Shelley Street, Sydney NSW 2000 ("American Express/We/Us").

    …and…

    B. Eligible Cards

    Only American Express Cards issued by American Express Australia Limited or by the following licensed network partners are Eligible Cards:

    • National Australia Bank Limited;
    • Westpac Banking Corporation;
    • Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ); and
    • Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

    If a replacement Card with a new Card number is issued during the Offer Period by the above licensed network partners, this will be deemed as a new Card and a separate registration will be required in respect of that Card.

    The following are not Eligible Cards: Business Cards that are affiliated with a wholesaler partners, American Express Business Travel Accounts, Government Cards, Corporate Purchasing Cards, Corporate Meeting Cards, Corporate Cards and David Jones Storecard.

    Supplementary American Express Cards or any other American Express Cards you may hold qualify as an Eligible Card only if registered for the Offer separately. Where the Primary and Supplementary Card number is identical only one registration can be made per account.

  • That's a shame! Sorry you have to jump through all these hoops. I just wanted to say I had a Westpac bank issued card and my $50 credit came through. Not sure why yours didn't.

  • I have an amex issued card. a funny thing happened where I got the congratulations email after two 50 dollar spends. I thought that is odd, since I didn't do a third. I waited two weeks without rebate. I then did a third qualifying spend and the credit appeared a few days later. this is the only time ever I receieved a congratulations email without before making the required spend. maybe there is a glitch with dan murphy. did you make 3 qualifying spends or only receive the congratulations email. this comment may be not relevant, but I thought id share anyway.
