1920x1080 24" BenQ G2420HD $199.99 - Free Delivery

1531

The title says it all. A 1920 x 1080 24" monitor delivered for $200.

Has DVI and HDMI inputs. The E2400HD shown here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/17985 looks like a nicer built BenQ for an additional $30 plus delivery, but I think the specs for the screen are about the same.

If you're looking for a new monitor, and can't pick up from a store, this is about as good as it gets IMHO.

EDIT: Looks like it's sold out.

        • No worries. I was told by customer service that ALL monitors would be shipped by Monday afternoon at the latest so given they're sent via courier you shouldn't be waiting any lnoger than Wednesday I'd imagine, unless you live really remotely

  • I've copped a dead pixel! I guess I will get to experience 9289's customer service first hand and will hapily share that with you. So far they haven't been very communicative, but have replied for me to send the screen back. After $25 postage back, it's no longer a great bargain for me. Irony.

    • Dont send it back to 9289, take it directly back a BenQ service centre

    • Have you tried gently rubbing the pixel with a cotton bud? you can also try "exercising" the pixel with rapid RGB apps like UDPixel.

      • I live in whoop whoop. So sending it to 9289 is about the same as a BenQ service station for me.

Did UDPixel overnight, with no result.

        • Does anyone have any experience, or know of anyone, whose had UDPixel work for them??

    • i've got a bright green pixel!!!
      monitor was bought last sunday,
don't know for whatever reason it stayed 3 working days in the Fastway's courrier van (since 28oct) and finally got it yesterday (monday 2nov) after i called Fastway regional center in vic.

as if the wait wasn't enough, there's this annoying green pixel stuck in there,
      damn

  • Does anyone have any details on BenQ service centres in Aus??

    • On the benq site, which doesnt seem to be working at the moment
      http://www.benq.com.au/page/frame.cfm?frameId=SLA

Yellow pages brings up 3 results for benq in the sydney area
      http://yellowpages.com.au/search/postCategorySearch.do?headi…

      • Good find.. there's a service centre about 5 min walk from where I live. Lucky I didn't have any dead pixels but that would have been convenient.

        • And yet if I get one (which I still don't know as I haven't received the fucking thing yet) my nearest is a 6-hour drive (assuming that is the only one in Aus)..

Hardly matters anyway, at this rate I won't receive it within the 14 days..

  • Received it today (not sure what time, was out) Has one dead pixel on the top right, not too bothered about it since I can only see it when the screen is black/green, only effects two colors, green and black. Not sure if its even worth taking back or sending in to Benq to get a replacement. Screen is MASSIVE! way bigger than I was expecting. Running through DVI and D-sub for the 360 (which looks awesome!) Contrast is great! navigation buttons on the bottom right are easy to use, switching from the 360 to the PC is a few simple button clicks :) :) wish I bought two! Take it back or no? not worth it?

    • Take it back or no? not worth it?

If you live near a benq service centre you could otherwise you will need to pay postage back to 9289.

It is one pixel which doesnt sound like it is very visible, i dont think i would bother.
If more die you have your 2-3 year(dont know what it is) warranty period to have it fixed.

    • Hey mate just a tip, you can pick up a hdmi cable (they frequently come up on here for around $5 or so) which you can use with the 360 and the monitor will automatically switch to the 360 when it's switched on =]

For the record, got mine today finally :)
Love it, as for 9289, shit customer service, quite disappointed. Oh well :)

      • Love it, as for 9289, shit customer service, quite disappointed. Oh well :)

I think this deal might have just pushed them beyond what they can handle.

I have used them numerous times in the past without any issue (which is why i still use them)
Email response is always good and they have even called me to confirm the odd thing.

and the monitor will automatically switch to the 360 when it’s switched on =]

Even if the PC is turned on?
I think if there are 2 active inputs it wont do any auto switching

        • Yea I will admit it was an amazing deal that would have got them a lot of customers, but I think they should've been prepared for that, or at least moreso than they were.
For instance if I were to have received a dead pixel in my monitor I got today I would have struggled to even claim the 14-day warranty due to where I live. I'd have to rely on the post to get it there by Sunday which could be a bit hit-and-miss..

And I haven't tested it properly just yet anthony but I believe that's the way it works, there is a setting in the menu called something like auto-switch to hdmi. Something like that. :)

  • Date Ordered: Tuesday 27 October, 2009

Your order has been updated to the following status:
New status: Step 4/5 Order Dispatched

finally a update! i hope i get mine tomorrow. Hope i get no dead pixels ;)

  • just got mine today. good screen. check with the application on the previous page for the dead pixel. seem ok. happy with it.

  • trying Jscreenfix to get rid of the little green bastard. Looks like I'm going to have to leave it on for a few hours. If it doesn't work I'll take it to benq or 9289.

    • Any success?

      • nope, taking it back tomorrow.

  • got mine this morning, no dead pixels so happy with the monitor!!

  • Can anyone confirm this effect on their monitors:

"I have the G2420HD and have noticed that black text on white background exhibits a slight dark green tinge when viewed from certain angles." [1]

I've noticed this on the monitor that got delivered this morning. I have created a (slightly exaggerated) recreation of the effect here:

    http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/2369/greenishtinge.png

Can others have a look at tell if it's just me and the other whirlpooler, or if this is normal for this type monitor.

I don't know if it's defective or if I'm expected too much. At eye level, half the screen as this dim-greenish-tinge, in almost a gradient-like effect. I have to actually stand above eye-level to see continuous white.

Not really happy at the moment.

    • I think it could be a mix of your lighting and the monitors viewing angle.

All cheap LCDs using TN panels have poor viewing angles.
Combined with your lighting and a green tint could be possible.

Even the colours of my Samsung monitor change if i move my head up/down.

Are you using VGA or DVI?
Have you tried adjusting the brightness/contrast settings?

      • I'm using DVI. I have tried all variations of the brightness/contrast/picturemode etc.

On white backgrounds, there seems to be this constant "murky" quality of the whites. It's most pronounced at the top and dissipates going down; about half-way, the discoloration is gone and the white background is nice, clean, bright and white as you'd expect.

Contrasting the bottom and top of the picture, it's clear there's a dull, murkiness at the top.

I think it's definitely a viewing angle issue as when I gradually lower my eye-level viewing angle, I can see the effect becoming more and more pronounced.

I'm trying to figure out if:

        1. I have a defective panel.

        2. This is normal and I have overly-sensitive eyes (and other people are less sensitive to the effect and thus do not notice it.)

        3. This is normal and my standards are too high for such a cheap monitor.

It seems to be marketed for multimedia purposes — gaming, videos, etc.; HD videos, games, moving images do look okay on this monitor, if that's its sole purpose. But for extended text reading, browsing, programming, photo editing, I just can't see myself using this monitor the way it is.

The top half of my screen looks almost old and faded compared to the bottom half of my screen.

I will take a photo of it later tonight and see if I can capture the effect on photo.

        • Are you able to connect it to some other device to see if it still does the green (just to eliminate your pc)

How about turning off all lights in your room just to make sure it is not your lighting causing the screen to look funny?

What sort of monitor did you have before?

          • @anthony: I was using a Dell E228WFP 22-inch wide screen LCD monitor. It came as part of an Insprion 530s Desktop that I bought over 2 years ago.

The E228WFP had weak viewing angles too, but at least white backgrounds had clear uniform whiteness when within angle.

The G2420HD, at eye-level distance, looks almost dim-dull-faded-tinted-murky-tinged on the top half.

I've tried with lights off — this makes the effect even -clearer- because you can contrast the brightness of the whites below and the dull whites above.

The difference between the text-background in my browser's address bar and the text-background in my browser's status bar is clear.

I'm going to see if I can take a photo now to show you guys.

  • I still haven't received mine, Fastway couriers are hopeless in my experiences.

Hopefully I get it before the end of the week, but I hold nearly no hope of that happening.

  • Just got mine. Had it delivered to my workplace today as I was not home yesterday. Flawless with no dead pixels. Can't go beyond 60hz refresh though, unlike my previous 19 inch which went up to 75. Ah well.

    • LCDs only refresh at 60 anyway

  • It was hard to capture the subtleties of the effect on camera. I've had to exaggerate the viewing angle a little bit to get a proper photo of it. Have a look here:

    http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/4922/22986559.jpg

    http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/1969/eg2j.jpg

    Rather dissapointing.

    • That does look bad.

I would find a benq service centre as i think that is far from being normal

    • yep, that looks defective. Mine (the one I have atm, getting a new one tomorrow) has the same but very minimal effect.

  • I've emailed them. Their repair centre is actually in NSW, 3.5 hours away.

So it looks like more money + months down the drain. Who knows if BENQ will even honour this as a defect.

    Let's see what they say.

  • Seriously peopke. You all paid peanuts. What were you expecting. It was a great deal. And that's it. Its turned into a winge forum.

      Shh. Stop whinging about us.

OMFG! I found out what what the issue was. The factory preset for the colour temperature was not set properly.
If you change it to USER MODE (instead of NORMAL MODE) and set the RED, BLUE, GREEN to 100 the viewing angle tinge DISAPPEARS.

For those having poor viewing angle issues, try this out and see if it helps.

I just stumbled upon this temperature setting and my screen looks like heaven. All colours are clean, bright, and uniformly distributed across the ENTIRE screen. The actual VIEWING ANGLE FOR THE WHOLE SCREEN HAS IMPROVED.

I can literally read text and see full color FROM GROUND LEVEL.

Everything is looking so beautiful. This is an monitor incredible for the price.

Props to 9289.com.au for bringing this bargain to the community.

    • Woah! Nice find Rob! Makes the screen so much more vibrant! (screen MENU/PICTURE/COLOR)

  • Ordered on Thursday (29th October): still hasn't arrived!

    • Ordered on the 26 October still hasn't arrived.
Fastway say it takes 5-7 working days to get to perth, item was sent out on the 2nd(late).
Should be here on monday the 9th.

      • Looks like we should get it at the same time.

  • I just opened mine and set it up. It's great! No dead pixels thank lord.

One thing that is irking me a bit is at the top 5cm I'm noticing some 'shaking'. I've hooked it up to an old computer with a dodgy graphics card so maybe that's it. I'll set it up with another computer tonight, just hope it's not the monitor that's at fault.

Nevertheless, great to have a monitor that looks 2009. Thanks so much to the original poster for posting this one - best bargain yet!

Just so everyone knows, the 14 day dead pixel warranty starts on the delivery date (makes sense but still..)

    • Do you have proof of this?
The way I see it they'd probably be dicks about it and say it's off the receipt's purchase date.

      • 9289 print the tracking number on the invoice so BenQ will be able to see when you received the monitor

        • OK so I understand how that will work.
My problem is BenQ really have no responsibility to honour that if they don't wish. While I hope (and imagine) they would, realistically the purchase date is the purchase date, regardless of what the tracking number says.
As I say though I'm sure they would honour the warranty as it's not a big loss to them. You never know though these days..

      • Well I just called them up, I asked and they answered, simple.

        • Called 9289 or BenQ?

EDIT: If BenQ, consider me satisfied.. =]

          • @BOC14: 9289…I live between 9289 in chatswood and the BenQ in Ryde (assuming that's where one is)

  • Received 9AM this morning (Perth). No dead pixels — very happy!

I really want to remove that 1 shitty neg lol

  • Lol for a moment seeing this on the front page I was thinking wtf, how is this a good deal? I then noticed the date and realised this was the exact deal that I bought this monitor from back in 2009!

Edit: actually maybe not. Same monitor different deal
