Rubbish Brand, unfit for third world countries even :)

Is this at one particular store? If so you need to mention what store has this deal. Good luck finding one at this price if every store.

    • Don't understand the negs for a valid question.

Store should be listed in deal description of clearance type stock. Aldi stores do not give out their store phone number like other supermarkets, and call goes to state head office, who say to try in store. Can be a frustrating experience finding old stock.

Aldi Special Buys™ stock is store specific & always of limited supply even when advertised. Don't know if this is a store manager reduction, but Manager prices are limited to that store, as posted many times.

As expected - none at my local store, "haven't had any for ages". So stock is likely to be limited. Don't know when these were being sold, but review is 3 months back.

No one has so far reported finding any stock.

      • Release date of this 2GB Ram version was 1 November 14. Confusingly there were releases in June & September of earlier 1GB Ram Android 4.2.2 version. Tempo Australia is likely distributor, & supplier of firmware update.
(Tempo Australia contacted me to work with them to improve quality control of their products sold under the Aldi Bauhn trademark. Quality is patchy.)

Whirlpool forum about memory issues & firmware upgrade has very little discussion.

    • OzBargain - where + votes for a deal that was not available, and negs for those commenting it's not available :-(

  • Rubbish phone, bought one from local ALDI, just got 1GB of usable space, can only install a limited number of apps, returned the phone twice as it keeps resetting it self. finally got money back.

Seems as there's an update to fix this.
Found in comments section on 1st review (however link no longer active)
Aldi have links on their Bauhn website for updated firmware that solves the 1GB app storage limit. All 32 Gb of memory now becomes available. But be warned: the installation is not for the fainthearted - mainly with driver issues (drivers are included in the zip file) A step by step guide is also on the website here:

      • your link doesnt work.

          I mentioned this above

        • @Regie69:
thanks. I thought the rest of the comment was your info and a new link, not what the website has. My mistake.

@PVA: No probs. I did go looking for new link but didn't find

You can get better phones from AliExpress, search by most ordered.

There must be a reason why the phone is there on sale again: Someone was unhappy with it and returned it.

Yes rubbish phone to start with. It requires a firmware update (Bauhn site) after which it is fine (the firmware update instructions arent the best either, need to plug in phone after pressing upgrade firmware). Originally it has about 100meg of space for apps. firmware changes that. Also had some issues with wireless when more than 5 devices are conected to wireless router. Appart from that my dad quite likes this phone and has been a bargain for him. bought it x-mas time for about that price i think. Also bought the leather pouch protector as there is no spare parts or or protectors for this phone.
Dad thought he got the best bargain… untill i got the Bauhn 50" tv for $299 (yes the one for sale again for $499)

I like your dad. He sounds like a very jovial, no fuss kind of person.

"Little customisation or firming of the Android operating system, leaving you with app monitor notifications generally meant for developers"
WTF is this (profanity) on about. Not saying this phone is good, but don't take a thing this guy says with a grain of salt. Remember him on Sunrise? It was painful.

  • I think my $169 was better spent on a PS3…

  • "The micro-SIM slot works with 3G networks, while the full-sized SIM will run exclusively on 2G networks." From second review.
Aren't 2G networks closing soon? If so, how can this be considered a dual SIM phone?

Almost no space for apps in an 8GB phone!

I wanted to find one for a laugh, but no stock near me :-(

OP won't say where the photo was taken, and photo shows a total stock of 1!! Certainly doesn't seemed to have been checked if it meets minimum stock level to even make this a deal :-(
No reports of stock so far.

OP's link to Bauhn site for firmware update does not work, so why post a known useless link…

Certainly neg-worthy as a deal, unless enough stock is found, and link to upgrade is available.

    • See MODs comment in deal description.

  • Deals like this should not be listed if at least the minimum 10 to make a deal can't be located. There was only 1 in the OP's photo!

OP failed to respond to requests for store location. No link was found to necessary upgrade to make this a possibly useful deal.

Not happy I wasted my time on this "deal" :-(

    • Store was at Brimbank Vic (Deer Park)
Reason why I haven't responded as I was going to go there and ask how many they had in stock. When I'm there next I will ask.
I'm not going to un-expire the deal until stock count is confirmed. Also this is not a clearance item as they all use the red tags on clearance. I have found that lots of store will only display 1 yet they have plenty out the back of store. But you need to ask

      • Your experiences with Aldi stores is different to mine, which may be down to different practices in different areas. Unfortunately I have had far too much to do with Aldi stock & supplier systems in the past.

In my experience, display cases, contain all of the remainder stock of small electronics like this from past limited stock Special Buys™ sales. Most stores would only receive a small number of these. Stores often keep just 1 display model of large electronics, with remainder in "the cage" near loading dock.

I noticed the price tag in your photo was not the red tag associated with manager reductions. That's why I referred to this price reduction on advertised price, as a clearance type deal. The product was on sale 3 months ago - a long time in Aldi's stock system.

But sometimes Aldi stock is re-released at a lower price without promotion, & may be only available at a few stores. That is likely in this case. I posted a comment about a similar reduced price product on standard price tag on Whirlpool, but it seemed I was the only one to find it at that price.

The idea of declaring store location in an unadvertised deal - is so others can know where stock should be, and can report back on availability - maybe saving you the effort.

But the posting guidelines suggest to verify the minimum stock level before posting, if it is likely to be of limited supply. Aldi warn there can be limited quantity on day of sale, so likely to be very limited 3 months later. As a guideline, less than 10 quantity of items is not enough for a deal
But as a regular deal poster, you would be aware of that.

        • Back in stock aldi brimbank Vic. Same price
