Fail eBay Items - What Were They Thinking?

I am often looking through eBay and see things that are so disgusting - e.g Couches that I would not sit on (let alone buy); Mattresses that are only 'lightly soiled'.

I thought it might be fun to highlight some massive eBay fails - where the seller is clearly dreaming if they think someone will pay good money for it.

How about this couch? As new condition - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-seater-Blue-Couch-Sofa-pick-up-…

Or this Mattress?
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Single-Foam-Mattress-/16157469555…

Or perhaps this Kia Carnivale - that only needs the A/C regassed…. ;) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kia-Carnival-LS-2004-4D-Wagon-5-S…

Any other fail items that you can find?

I don't think these are bad items per se. That couch seems pretty decent…I thin it is the velvety texture that makes it look a bit suss in the photos. But for 99c, it is a bargain.

It's not just the item itself, but how the picture has been taken of the item that's a huge fail.

I've seen hundreds of examples of people chime up how good quality their item is and how well kept it is in the description…..until you see they took a picture of it in the garden or some dusty old garage. 100% confidence boost right here.

Another big fail is all this spruiking about how 'brand new' it is, until they only just 'took it out of the box to take a picture of it'. Sorry but so much for 'brand new'.

Ebay101, if you wouldn't buy it, no one will. Put some thought into it.

More like fail post, the lounge doesn't say as new.

And the Kia is probably the person who is on the forums posting about blown motor https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/180569

    Both are pretty straightforward

Mattress well they are only asking 99 cents

    • The mattress already has a bidder too.

    • No that is not my Car.

My junk is 1000 times better in terms of interior and exterior.

Wow! Does that Kia come with Bonuts? If so, just take my money already!!

I would recommend looking under the Bonut before buying the Kia:)

Can't remember how but I stumbled across 8 rusted pie tins from a deceased estate… Only $20 too!!

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/8-pie-tin-deceased-Estate-/221673…

Now all I need is a recipe for rusty death pie.

    • +3

Not just any deceased estate, an "8 pie tin deceased estate".

      Can't believe there's no bidders!

      • +7

I know. I'm nervous about bidding though. There's so many fakes on eBay. I've asked for evidence from the seller that they're genuine death pie tins but have heard nothing, which sets my alarm bells ringing.

The biggest fail is the very common Excellent condition mobile phone only has a cracked screen.

Apart from weird items… the spelling in some of the ads really makes you cringe… :-(
The upside down and sideways photos are always fun too.

  • Have you seen some of the ebay fail pics?… Sometimes various ahem, "appendages" unintentionally end up in an item's photo….

There is a guy who takes all the pics of his items in the nude, as you can see if you look closely in the reflective surfaces. I assume it is his kink, but he has been doing it for years.

      • It's probably him I've been seeing then :P

What is trash to you, may be someone else's treasure.

Just because YOU don't see value in something, doesn't mean it has no value.

Throwing an item on there for 99c before chucking it on the pavement for council pickup or something isn't always a stupid idea. If someone out there needs or wants it, you might as well give it a second chance at 'life' :P

The couch doesn't look disgusting. Unflattering pattern/material but it looks 'tidy' enough, on par to the kind of stuff you'd probably find in Salvos or at garage sales I'm sure.

Mattresses personally gross me out second hand, but other people out there don't mind. Others simply have no choice as they can't afford brand new regardless. Should we really judge?

As long as the sellers are honest about the condition of what they're selling, I don't really see how it's a fail.

I once needed some foam to cut up and make a bunch of giant dice for a kid's activity. A 99c foam mattress was perfect, much better than the $40 Clark rubber wanted to charge.

  • To be fair, both the sofa and mattress are listed as 99c.

  • I once saw an auction for a photo someone took of jets flying over toowoomba. it wasn't a good photo at all. the jets were dots in the sky. someone just snapped the pic whilst walking down the street.

I'm in the market for vertical blinds. Just one 1500 x 2100mm for a sliding door. I don't care about the colour as long as it's tidy, functional and cheap.

But things like this are almost always pickup only and I'm in Tassie.

Was about to buy a new one, but the OZBer in me is resisting!

  • Does the couch come with a test drive from partykitty?
