  • Good price there. Might finally take the dive and get one.

Shipping can be from 15-30 business days, but estimated to be be 5-11 business days.

    • Ordered a battery from them on January 13, got an email saying shipped same day and still haven't received.

      • usually 3 weeks if order from China via Airmail. And it's always the case from All products ship from China or HK using the free mail option.

        • +1

Ordered xiaomi other goods from geekbuying prior to Christmas.
…paid extra for tracking (didn't work).
Arrived today (2nd Feb). (all goods fine and genuine)

previous purchases of other geek gear have also been very slow, …so it is not just the free post option.

  • Anyone used them before? Can vouch for their genuinity?

    • +3

I've used them once, bought 10400mah+Piston bundle. It was genuine (I opened it up/it was genuine according to the Xiaomi website), but I was not fortunate enough to get the LG/Samsung cells (Xiaomi does use other companies' cells, according to Xiaomi website).

It took around 20ish days, but considering that I bought it slightly before the Christmas season, I think it was reasonable. (I think I received on 6~8th of Jan, I ordered it on 17th of December.

I unfortunately don't have the power bank with me, as I've bought it as a present to a tech illiterate (thus had to make sure that it was genuine to be on safe side).

But as I recall from someone pointing out, even if I got the real one that time, it doesn't guarentee anything.

Also, I recommend getting the sleeves, edges are not rounded, so it's possible for you to scratch the phone while using the powerbank.

I've bought from GeekBuying before, though not this item, and will not buy from them again.

My product arrived physically defective, but they wouldn't replace it. Instead, they repeatedly told me to file a damage claim with the shipping company, even after I sent them multiple pictures of the parcel packaging (it was in perfect condition so it was obvious the damage was not incurred while in transit). Eventually, they offered me a 5% refund to compensate, but continued to refuse to replace the item - despite me quoting their return policy, which clearly states that they will pay for return shipping and replace the product if it arrives defective.

My conclusion - they will do anything to avoid honouring their return policy, and their tactic is to keep stalling for time in the hope that you will give up. (eg. emails can take up to 3 days or more to get a reply).

I understand that problems happen from time to time - but what's important is how sellers resolve issues. The way they handled my case has left me very bitter (as you can probably tell), so I will discourage people from buying from them, especially for higher-value items.

      • +3

Personally I prefer to buy from Ebay due to better protection for buyer and relatively quicker response from seller. IT helps by checking seller's review and how long the seller has been on ebay. I believe there are online sites with very good customer service too. Ozbargain is a good place to search answer for the reputation of a seller.

      • -3

On behalf of Geekbuying we are very sorry for our poor customer service. To make it up to you, could you please send me your order number? We will replace your item.

    Paypal US$18.60 = 24.84 AUD (1 AUD = 0.748960 USD)

God, how depressing is that exchange rate…. :(

    • +6

Bad time to shop from overseas now.

      • +16

But there is no indication it's going to get better anytime soon.

        • Agree

    • +4

even more depressing is that you would use paypal's exchange rate ;)

      • even more depressing is that you would use paypal's exchange rate ;)

Well, it's paypal or credit card, and with the latter, you'll only get 73.9 (and the risk of your details going "astray")

        • Well, it's paypal or credit card, and with the latter, you'll only get 73.9 (and the risk of your details going "astray")

you're using the wrong type of credit card then

28deg, Bankwest Platinum etc etc all give pretty much 'spot' rate (which at the moment is about .78c even, so about 3c better than paypal)

        • +5

You do know you can use your credit card with Paypal yet have your credit card do the conversion don't you….?

My credit card (Bankwest Zero Platinum MasterCard) follows the published rate on the MasterCard website and doesn't charge any conversation fees. Craps all over PayPal's rates.

        • I think the accepted method is to use paypal to pay by credit card, but use one of the credit card options out there which don't charge foreign currency conversion fees(eg. 28degrees) so you get a much better exchange rate(should be much closer to 0.779 right now)

        • @Kenb0:
Oh cool, how do you actually go about using your credit cards conversion and not paypals when paying with paypal?

        • @SBOB:

you're using the wrong type of credit card then

          Yep,that's CBA for you.

        • +2

          @Dan83:
It's an option when you go through the paypal checkout.. and I think you can also set the default for a payment type

        • @SBOB: Thanks - I'll try find it next time.

        • You can use your bank's exchange rate through paypal using credit card option rather than linked bank account (have to manually choose each transaction). Also this way you have visa/mastercard protection as well : )

Edit: I kept scrolling and saw all the similar comments.
TL;DR +1 for credit card option through paypal

        • @buttstuff:

(have to manually choose each transaction)

          No you don't.

Should only use this if you intend to use a 28 Degree Mastercard/Bankwest Plat for all international purchases…not sure why you wouldn't though!

        • @Porthos: Sorry didn't see this earlier, so how do you stop from having to change it each time? It really is a hassle and I've love to change it

        • @buttstuff:
I don't think you can. Paypal prefer you to use your savings account.

        • @buttstuff: I'm not too sure to be honest, I haven't had to change it for so long now but I know I have both my CC and savings linked to it and it never prompts me to have to select my CC as that's what it defaults to.

I had a look around in my settings though and couldn't find where to change it though, maybe I'm just lucky that it's an old setting they had that I stumbled upon ages ago?

    • That's a terrible exchange rate. We're importing items from UK as a local branch and I can tell you GBP => AUD conversion rates are killing the margin and there's only so much room to compensate with a price increase.

  • Do we need a adapter plug for oz for the charger cable?

    • +1

It doesn't come with a power plug, just a USB-micro USB cable.

    • +1

No it is charged from a micro usb cable from your computer or existing AC USB adapter.

    • +2

Your phone or tablet AC adapter will do. Can even charge it from your PC, but that will be much slower.

  • Dang - bit the bullet and bought this from mushtato for $28. Arrived today (bought thursday). Its a lot heavier than i expected!

    • +16

Dang - bit the bullet and bought this from mushtato for $28.

Why Dang? If you'd ordered from this mob, you would have saved a maximum of 3 bucks, you'd have to wait a month for delivery and have no local warranty. Mushtato offer is way better.

      • -1

Just for the powerbank itself comes to 21.80 so a bit more of a saving than 3 bucks! Awesome deal if you don't mind waiting for it.

    • +10

echo same sentiments as above … you did OK with mushtato. Fast delivery, local stock… $3 is OK to support the local guys :)

    • +7

I got one the other day from Mushtato too, because I am going overseas in 2 weeks I needed someone with Australian stock.

I bought one from Alibaba in the past and it's a fake. My wife has a brand new SGS 5 and I didn't want to risk plugging her new toy into the fake one, so she can have the genuine.

I have a Nexus 5 and happily use the fake - it works fine. We're traveling on different dates but meeting each other in the same place so it will be handy to have 1 each anyway. Yay I get the fake.

  • how many times does it re-charge a phone? say example sg 4 active?

    • +4

      approx 3 times.

    • +1

SG4 Active has a 2600mah battery, so this could charge it up to 4 times.

      • +3

You won't get 4. Xiaomi state the charging efficiency is 90% at 2.0amps, but from my experience of owning two of these, I think its more likely around 80% (but that is still excellent by any standard). I get about 2.5 charges for my 3000mah LG g2.

        • +2

The efficiency on the battery pack side may well be 90% (though IIRC they only advertised the controller/regulator, not the batteries themselves), but once you factor in losses in the cable, and the phone itself, 80% doesn't sound far off.

        • You're right. That's why I said up to. I didn't know the exact amount.

    • -2

Divide the capacity by your own phone's battery capacity.

So for a GS4 Active, the capacity is 2600mAh, so this 10400mAh could charge it fully exactly 4 times (give or take a bit).

      • This doesn't discharge itself to zero though, does it. So it will reduce itself to 2600maH, then stop sending any more current essentially equalizing itself.

        • +1

Umm yes it does discharge itself to zero. I think you might be confusing this with something else, like buckets of water or something.

    • +1

Xiaomi website states it can recharge an iphone 5s(1560mah) 4.5x, which is a total of 7020mah. This review of the larger Mi powerbank says it has almost 70% efficiency which is in line with Xiaomi estimates.

      • +1

I have this powerbank. I can completely charge my tablet (8220mah battery) with enough left over to charge my iPhone about 70%.

  • +7

Nice, but I think I will wait for the local boy's promised next special.

    Go Mushtato!

  • +4

That's one hell of a bargain. Got a 4400mA Cygnett from JB-HiFi for $39 and it can barely charge my SGII one and half times. I think I'll get a refund for that and give this Xiaomi thingy a try.

  • +2

I've updated main post with 2 pictures of my own power bank with the blue case.

  • +2

The price on their website is CNY69 which is AUD14. Why is it so expensive to buy from Australia?
    http://www.mi.com/dianyuan10400/

    • "Australian tax"

    • Shipping from China, the fact that Australians can afford this much, alternatives in Australian market are more expensive than this anyways, the fact that Xiaomi set their price low as part of their marketing and you usually have to pay premiums to get their product, etc etc.

Well in this case, it would be American market and Americans but I think those are part of the reasons.

  • Confirming this can be used to charge devices other than the XiaoMi.

    Cheers,

    Guangping

    • +1

Yeah it can charge multiple devices like the iPhone 6 for example. I've used it on my Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and even my Tronsmart Mars G01 controller and it works flawlessly.

    • +3

Well of course it can. Do you understand what this product is?

  • Great price. Ordered one :)

  • Good price !

  • Ordered one from them on January 13 and still haven't received.

    • Registered airmail from China may take between 15 and 30 days. You can track your package here.

    • +1

Hi, I'm the representative from Geekbuying. Could you please tell me your order number? I will check for you.

  • Sorry but I'd rather have my orders done on Mushtato's, local faster and better in every way, don't like to many things shipped from China cause your having such a high risk of something bad that might occur.

  • Thanks OP. Grabbed a coulpe. Couldn't wait any longer for the Mushato 10400 deals - I still supported them too and purchased 2 x from their last 16000maH deal!

    • Gees that's a lot of power banks. What do you do with them all?

      • That is a fantastic question, spares? friends? ya know the psyche of an ozbargainer means we will think of anything remotely silly to grab a bargain!

        • +1

You should be on A Current Affair.

  • I dont understand how in the world are they able to send batteries by air. You cant even send a phone from VIC to TAS…

    • Sure you can I did it once. But the guy at the post office made me open the parcel and remove the battery from the phone then pack it all up again before I could send it.

    • They're sending it through Airmail with China or Singapore Post that allow batteries to be sent by air. Auspost only delivers it.

  • Hi Clear
I just bought one but for some reason it only charged me $16.99. Did something go wrong? my order number is 3265151. Can you check if the case is included in my order? Thanks
Edit: If its not included in the order, are you able to charge me the right amount to add one in?

    • The case had to be added as a separate item. I will let customer service know and they will reply to your comment soon.

    • Sorry I should have made the instructions more clear. The case had to be added to the order, so you've only purchased the power bank. You can contact our Live Support on the top right hand corner of the website and they will help you out.

  • The code doesn't seem to be working?

    • I just tried the code and it seems to be working. Double check to make sure you're adding the right items to your cart.

      • Ahh it wasn't working in my iphone 6 when i put in the code - my laptop worked fine once it asked me to register ;) Purchased…thanks!

  • Me too, code doesn't seem to work.

    • I just tried the code and it seems to be working. Double check to make sure you're adding the right items to your cart.

    • see above :)

  • nice. cheaper than local but better than banggood !!!

  • I just submitted my order , Order # : 3265552 but it only charged me $16.99. i had added an orange case with it , not sure y it didnt go through.? please confirm. happy to pay the difference

    • Sorry to hear that. Please contact our Live Support on the top right hand corner of the website and they will help you out.

      • Been waiting for the live support to come online since 20min.still no luck. Can you please help. It says
“Please wait for a site operator to respond…
If you do not want to wait, please click here to leave us a message.“
Should i just leave the same msg?

        • Yeah, leave a message. You can always try live chat later.

        • @Clear:

Its been more than a week since I paid for the item and its still not dispatched.

        • @hatimhussain: Send me your order number and I'll find out.

  • You can buy the case on ebay for $1.17

    • A lot of them on ebay are not genuine Xiaomi. From what I've seen, they're too big and have rough edges with little bits of rubber coming off.

  • Thanks!
    Finally bought one!

  • I remember buying this on the eBay store when it was about $24. Best $24 I have ever spent, especially seeing as my phone can't last a day on full battery :P

  • +2

I have instructions here on how to add power bank and case together if people are unsure

  • Thanks. Grabbed a couple for Japan trip.

  • Don't buy from China and certainly not Geekbuying. They did the same to me, sent me a clearly use tablet with a busted up and opened box. When I realised the tablet was faulty and wouldn't charge I emailed GKB. After 2 weeks and multiple excuses I finally was allowed to return it. They then pointed out tiny imperfections in the tablet and even on the box and charged me $25 restocking and wouldn't cover return shipping.

I paid for it via paypal but they sent it out 3 weeks after I paid and it took 2 weeks to arrive. I couldn't open a paypal dispute as it was too late.

Do a quick google search for GKB scams and you'll find out all about em. Crooks.

  • With the Chinese New Year about to start, Geekbuying and the shipping companies are going to be closed. I'm sorry if your orders haven't been shipped. I'll try my best to make it a priority when they return.

    • Mine says it's been in Beijing since the 16th of February. Is there something wrong?

      Order umber is 3268361

      • I've messaged the staff and I'll let you know once I've found out.

        • You replied to a message over a week ago saying not long to go.
In total its been 52 days. i have sent you my order number again. Can you please assist in rectifying this problem. Thanks.
