Too many supermarket deals?

Does anyone else think that there seems to be too many supermarkets deals lately? I mean there is nothing in most of them that cant be found a click away from the woolies/coles homepage or in a catalogue delivered to your letterbox / available at the entry point of the stores. And we already have compare-a-tron, which does a great job of taking a macro view to highlight real value…

    I like how they (coles & ww) sneak the price up to something stupid then boldly advertise it as a 50% off special which is a price it would have normally been.

    It's called marketing.
    If you want to cut the BS & trickery then do the bulk of your shop at Aldi first.

  • The problem is you have to shop everywhere!

    Weekly specials start on Wednesdays. Good to take advantage of the half price specials. Thing is, it's always the same things that go half price. Like muesli bars and chocolate.

    Is there fresh food Fridays somewhere?

    Aldi is always good for a food shop but it can be cheaper at Woolies or Coles if it's on Special.

    I use my Flybuys card at Coles. I get $10 off my shop for every 2000 points.

    coles & woollies seem to fight amongst themselves with total disregard for us - the consumers. Their prices are horrendous & both have been fined for unlawful trading in prices. Just wish we had an Aldi here in Perth. These two majors need a very strong wake up call to bring them into line. Have any of you noticed that most of their specials nowadays are for chocolate & other junk food - instead of everyday necessities?

      and it's pretty much the same product again and again, on rotation. Becoming semi predictable now. It's like a game of ping pong between Coles and WW - item A is half price at Coles one week, then half price at WW the next week. Missed out? Oh, never fear, it's pretty much half price half the time…

      Apply that to so many things on the shelves now, it's quite bizarre.

      The only one not playing any obvious douchey games is indeed Aldi (if we're talking about majors only).

  • Having all the specials etc consolidated into the one place (ie. OzB) is nice. Means not having to browse/check all the individual vendor/supermarket sites to view their catalogues or deals.

    But yeah, having, say, the contents of one catalogue spread out over several different posts can be kinda… 'ugh, not again' lol, but it's easy enough to scroll past them and simply view the ones you prefer. Everyone has a different style of surfing the net I suppose. Different preferences. Some prefer one deal highlighted in one post if it's a great special (like 1/5 price fancypants ice cream), while others will see it as unnecessary when the special is already listed in a comprehensive list (albeit - hidden in a long list). Which is more practical, then? Should posts cater to everyone's tastes or be more strict, and essentially dictate the way people browse / find specials?

    I always say this, but OzB is a weird place (to me). The deals posting section is like a strange other world.. I wonder what people are motivated by when posting deals. Is it the upvotes? Or simply sharing is caring? What is it with the lure of the upvote? It's kinda interesting. Sociologically, I mean. And psychologically. The politics it creates in a community like this… amusing yet bizarre.

    I'm gonna shut up now :P
