        Bf3 was too unstable for my use, so I gave up and moved onto BF4.

        I've never had any problems getting a game on a local server at any time of the day or night, and only one crash in about 100 hours of play so far.

      Yep! Especially for the DLC. BF5 isn't due until 2016, there's more DLC to come out (most likely reskinned BF3 maps). BF: Hardline is unlikely to deplete the BF4 numbers by much, it's not very good (based on open beta).

      It's definitely still very active. I don't feel there will be much stagnation in the coming year/s. Battlefield Hardline isn't a huge contender for a BF4 replacement. The community isn't the greatest at times, but still better than the cesspool of Counterstrike. Check the GameTracker page throughout the day and you'll see that it's pretty active.

        so I've been playing, and I look at that gametracker page, yes there's a lot of servers, but really not many people playing.. like 10 servers with a decent amount of people playing….whereas in counter-strike, there'll be dozens of servers busy - so this feels a bit light to me.

        i also acknowledge that these servers are larger 64 players

          You're comparing two completely different games :). Counter-Strike is a lot more accessible and easier to pick up and it's constantly discounted at a very reasonable price. Battlefield has died down a lot, people were probably annoyed at how long it took to fix the game (I know I was, that's why I quit).

          Yeah, it's quite a great game too. One of my favourite Battlefields to come out. The stock maps were actually really good. Oh well, let's hope with a longer development time BF5 will be great.

      It's really not that bad. It's basic compared to steam (no gifting, minimal community features) but it works. The download speeds are amazing for me, far better than Steam (12MB/s [Optus Cable, Melbourne]).
