i had some issues with bitdefender stuffing up my windows installation in the past. always use kaspersky now

Me too (problems with Bitdefender IS 2015). My desktop computer would randomly just completely lock up, and require a power cycle. And my laptop sometimes did the same. Haven't had that problem since removing Bitdefender IS. Also was having issues with the AutoPilot 'feature' going completly stupid and turning Automatic Updates on and off repeatedly. And then the firewall would block network sharing and Homegroups and was painful to get working… when it did.

In a nutshell, make sure you make use of the trial version before putting any money down for this product. I now use Sophos Endpoint as it is provided by my university.

      • No issue here yet but it's a pretty common tale unfortunately with AV software generally.

Goddamit… consarnit … other country soundin words.

I actually bought 1 year for this this morning. It was $23 vs "whatever idiotic price the RRP is at" but still. I hang my head in shame OzBargain, I hang my head in shame :|

BTW also … they are pretty much the best AV atm according to AV-tests though this can change.

You can probably ask for a refund… they have a "30-day money back guarantee" - Refund Policy

      • ah good spot, i bought it through some shareware sale site but I'll see if I can.

        • +1

Bugger… then it's up to the shareware site… policy only applies to direct-via-Bitdefender site. And I purchased it because I liked the free version - was light, didn't slow the computer down much, and kept out of my way. Thought the paid version would be even better… boy was I wrong there!

        • @pfeerick: Really? I'm actually running it on a core2duo atm, circa 200 .. 7? and I can't notice it.

Briefly I did a new Windows install around January 1 this year without installing AV then had a presumably drive by download infection (I try to be very careful with browser scripts and unknown software etc) this morning.

I'm not about trying to clean stuff once it gets in so I reinstalled and immediately installed Bitdefender. So I think I'm comparing sort of the same thing.

        • @Diji1: The free version and the paid versions were pretty much as quick as each other. I can just tell the difference between no AV and Bitdefender, but only just - it is probably the fastest AV I've used to date (and that's with a few years of shopping around trying different ones).

It was the reliability of the paid version that was the problem - issues with the firewall blocking access to network shares, autopilot switching on and off windows update for no apparent reason (going on-off-on-off every 0.5s) and the complete computer lockups. Only change I've made to both 64bit systems is to remove Bitdefender IS 2015, and haven't had any lockups since. So I would say the free version is great - the paid version not so much.

FYI like the last time this deal was posted (about two weeks ago), this is NOT Bitdefender TOTAL SECURITY. You will not be able to extend that with IS.

  • +1

Lovely, added 209 days. Cheers EC.

  • Anybody advise if it requires Malwarebytes to be removed during Bitdefender's installation process!?

    • +2

Depends PC to PC, mine didn't, but there are report that you may need to

    • +2

Yes …Mine did running win 8.1

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

  • +1

Awww I needed the Total Security

    • What happens if you add the key to your TS?

      • nothing

        • If you add a TS key to IS client, it will upgrade to TS, and download new client. Guess it doesn't allow you to downgrade.

  • Thank you EC

  • I had all sorts of issues, with not being able to register the license no. Bit defender not responding etc. Gave up last night, and tried again this morning. Arrhhh. I uninstalled it, and installed AVG. Three hours wasted.

  • Hi All, before i sign up, can someone tell me whether or not you can activate the product say 1 month from now and still get the 9 months free? I have a subscription with another antivirus software for another 1 month and would like it to run out before installing this one.

    • The OP stated that the offer is only valid for 3 days. I reckon you have a limited time to activate the product.

    • +1

activate for the 9 months now and keep checking ozbargain… these sort of antivirus (various antivirus) deals are posted on ozbargain atleast once a month…

  • Thanks, got an extra 210 days, to extend my last free offer! Had a couple of problems here and there with Bitdefender but customer service is fantastic - they go to a lot of trouble to sort out any issues you might encounter.
