    Not cheap at all for the S5

    • Cheapest at the moment amongst Brick stores. Agree should be lower.. but alas it is not.

        $500 on numerous sales or with eBay discount code I think it came even cheaper. With the S6 being announced early next month I don't know anyone in the right mind to pay current flaship price.

  • shouldn't it be at around $500 by now? the new s6 will be out in a few weeks.

    • I think it's going to be announced 2nd March at MWC. Probably won't be for sale in Oz until April but even after the announcement, I'd expect S5 prices to drop significantly.

      • They have been pushing out teasers already.
        There are a lot rumours floating around, but most, if not all, rumours suggest that S6 is going to have non-detachable battery. One reason I'd want to see S5 around $400 region (anything above that is over my budget).

        • Hopefully, it drops alot faster than the S4 did to get to the $400 mark. Believe it was almost 2 years before it hit that mark, even after the S5 debuted. Ridiculous I know.

        • @Filster83: I've heard that S5 was the biggest flop since it looks like a band aid. That's why they actually have changed to non-detachable battery and focused on design (according rumours of course).

          Even if I don't bring my opinions on its design, I think it was the one of the worst one in terms of sales in Galaxy series. Hopefully, they have too much stock to go on clearance like crazy.

          @AznMitch:

          I dont get this whole 'design' thing on current phones - Most are just all screen on 1 side, and the other side doesn't matter because your average person puts this thing in a case anyway! Or they're holding the back of it so it doesn't matter!

          @AznMitch: Dafuq? Biggest flop becaus of a back cover? More like there are so many competition out there now. Noone is buying batteries anymore because battery packs are more useful

        • @Spackbace: True but it looks hideous nonetheless. It looks practical, but it just reminds me of the taxi backseats.

          There are a lot of people who just gets screen protector. Or who uses phone without anything.

        • @AznMitch: Yerp agree with you there. But that Amoled screen technology is pretty impressive. And yer I hope they drop pretty radically in price when the S6 hits, due to too much stock. I think we're focusing a bit too much on the S5 in this post though. The LG G2 isn't getting any action. ;) haha

          @Filster83: LG G3 has been available from many grey importers for $400 to $450 for some time now so I can't see why anyone would get excited about a G2 for the same price.

        • @bbyboy: Hmmm, I think you and I come from differnt place and it shows here. Korea gets two batteries and they give battery cases so people just change battery when they run out of battery, instead of having something attached to it. I personally prefer that over having a battery pack. Also, non-detachable batteries are harder to replace than a detachable one, which means you have to take it to the service centre, if you wanna replace old batteries. I guess it is just personal preference.

          Also, in terms of competition, yes, there are a lot of competition. If you think about it, S5 was fairly decent in its spec. The camera was alright, everything was alright, and it even had waterproof/dustproof function which not many flagships, other than Sony, have. I was simply suggesting that design was one of the major force that swayed people from buying S5, because you can get other flagships that functions just as well that looks so much better than S5.

          On slightly different side of the story, the head of the design sector for mobile did resign from his place after Galaxy S5. He defended the design saying that it is followed the trend in the fashion, those expensive brand ones, industry, but he resigned as a result.

          @xyron:
          My 2 week-old G2 (refurbed) cost me $300. Great toy @ that price, not worth $400 or more IMO.

        • @noone025:Agreed, great value phone for $300 (good luck getting a refub nexus 5 for that much), not so for $449.

        • @xyron: This is True. Although being a "Grey Importer" the warranty on the product would be at their discression. Where as these products have an Australian backed warranty, by their respective manufacturers. Can't say the same for the "Grey Importers". I know it's Apples vs Apples in regards to the actual Products in most cases. but I was just merely informing the average consumers about relatively good prices for these products and for anyone that hasn't got themselves a flagship phone.

          But cheers for the information.

        • @Filster83: You aren't getting to get very far with that argument on OzBargain. Why pay 50% more for a phone just to get an Australian warranty? You are effectively paying an insurance premium worth half the phone's value (at $300) just to get an Australian warranty - suggesting that you expect there is a 50% chance the phone will suffer a warrantable fault within the first 12-24 months (depending how far you might get with an ACL warranty claim). Only the most risk-averse would take such a poor-value insurance policy - and OzBargainers certainly aren't that risk-averse. :)

        • @xyron: Touhe' my friend Touche.. fair enough can't argue that logic within the OZbargain community. haha

          @AznMitch:

          I've heard that S5 was the biggest flop since it looks like a band aid.

          Could it have just been Samsung stubbornly continuing with their bloatware and ultra cr@ppy app store which is turning users away in droves. It makes the phone less polished in performance compared to their competitors. And adds more confusion to the android platform which has a steep enough learning curve as it is. I think Samsung should just leave software development to anyone else but themselves and stick to producing amazing hardware which was the original reason why people purchased the phones in the first place.

          But alas I doubt they will change their ways which presents a big opportunity for LG and Sony for the casual market.

        • @horsome: could not agree with you more, I bought a galaxy tab s, to my horror there was no cm ROM for it, so…. I learned coding and was the first to release a fully working cm11, and what a difference it made, the tablet flies now with lots of spare ram compared to touch wiz Sammy ROM.

  • I rather have a replaceable battery, simply because I can slap in a much larger battery into it.

    Zerolemon's Galaxy S4 battery is practically 3 batteries soldered together.

    I'm in construction, so I need the phone to last me all day (6am to past 11pm), and not be tethered to a dangling backup battery with a knotted USB cable.
