Coles Online Rant

I've never tried it before just now- it's horrendous- it's like 1997 and I'm back on dialup. Is it always like that? I would normally not bother with them but I got a Coles gift card from my electricity company.

I read in the paper that they are sacking 200 of their IT staff. Not replaced them with someone better just removed them so I doubt it will get better any time this century.

Oh and just because something is a special in the catalogue doesn't mean it's a special online- brilliant- had to ring them to confirm that one.

The weird thing about Coles, apart from their website, is that they send a glossy catalogue every flippin' week and I live 60km away from the nearest store.

  • 60km?! Which secluded part of Sydney (based on looking at your profile /notstalking) do you live in? lol

    • Wisemans ferry?

  • The coles online website is pretty shitty, it was worse though.

    • +1

The reason I only go to Woolies for groceries online shopping. The Coles online layout is crap. How hard is it for them to have a look at Woolies online and see how much better the competition is

  • OK

  • Where did you get your groceries "before just now"?

    • Woolies- 600m away- IGA 1200m away.

Wait, they are giving you free groceries, delivered to your remote-area house, mail with no obligations, but you are angry at them because their website is a little slow?

    lol.

    Please do not breed.

    • He didn't say he got the gift card for free, some electricity companies might be affiliated and have the 5% off, or maybe he had to switch companies for the card, so either way, nothing is free in the end.

And regardless, if a website is crap, it's crap, no matter where op lives or how he received his gift card.

      • works fine for me and 1000's of others. But then again, it's not 60km to my exchange… hmmm.. do u think that may have something to do with it, Hazy? Can you see a connection?

  • I didn't realise you could use Coles gift cards to make purchases with Coles Online. Does anyone else use this method? I don't use my normal credit card for online purchases and it's a hassle to load up my pre paid reloadable mastercard. I'm always going past Coles so I could pick up a Coles gift card easily instore and use it when there are better deals online than there are instore (and lots and lots of bonus points on offer from flybuys).

    • Is that right? Can't use a Coles card at Coles online- brilliant. Why doesn't that blithering idiocy surprise me.

I'll have to use it next time I'm in Sydney then.

      • I suggest you ring their information line just to confirm the current rules. I remember seeing something in the terms and conditions about the available payment methods but the rules might have changed. I've never actually used their service, I've just looked around the website and checked out where their click and collect stores are. It hasn't been worth placing an order yet for me so I've never got as far as payment method.

I don't know the reasoning behind the gift card conditions. I know the orders don't get invoiced until after they have been picked so this might be one reason you can't submit a giftcard number at the time of ordering. Once an amount is removed from a giftcard you can't get it back. Woolworths have several ways around this restriction but Coles might not want to go to the effort that Woolworths have.

I hope you find a useful way to use your card.

Let me know if you get a definite answer out of the call centre. I hope it's a free number as I don't want it to cost you money.

  • When I tried to do Coles online I could not use gift cards, nor would they take gift cards on pick up if I did click and collect. And not 100% sure but from memory you can't even use your fly buys card. Ridiculous.

    • The rules on flybuys cards keep changing. You can get base points for online orders but can only get some of the bonus points on offer. The online rules are outlined in each individual offer.

  • That is correct….you CANOT use a Coles gift card to pay online!!!…what a load of crap that is!!
I've contacted them recently about it…and I've told them that Woolies DO allow for payment with their gift cards when online shopping….so guess where I will be doing my online shopping????
