Crest HDMI Ethernet Cable 1.5m for $5 from Officeworks (4k UHD compatible, 18Gbps)

70

The Crest HDMI Ethernet Cable allows you to instantly connect set top boxes, HDMI compatible laptops, DVD players or other media devices to your TV or monitor. The cable has nickel plated connectors for strong connections and supports most video content, from 3D to UHD.

Packaging says 18Gbps, which implies HDMI 2.0 compatibility in terms of bandwidth. 4k Ultra HD is explicitly stated on packaging as well.

Different colors available as well.

Possibly not located in the normal cable section. Check front of store.

  • Oops was supposed to be a reply to electricbluee

  • Lots of stock at Clarence St Sydney in blue, green, grey and purple.

    • I couldn't see any in the cables section

      • If you put your head up it's against the back wall, it's not with the usual HDMI cables.

  • I couldn't find any review of this cable (brand/model). It seems cheap, but is it worth buying?

    • Pretty sure it's the brand that BigW sells. Well they do down here anyway.
I've thrown away at least one of their HDMI leads and a couple of coax cables and accessories!

  • Perhaps it should be said that this deal is in store only.

  • Just got some, thanks OP. Seem decent. Marked as 4K Ultra HD compatible, 18Gbps. For $5, it seems better than the usual cheap ones I get through eBay.

    • A true 4K capable 18Gbps HDMI cable would be a lot more than $5. Some how i think that may be false advertising. It would be a v1.4 HDMI cable and that's it. Don't expect 4K out of it just 1080p and 3D.

Heck not even my new Belkin Pure AV HDMI cable will do 4K. I don't think your cheap HDMI cable would do it. My new Belkin ProHD 3000 HDMI cable that i also have will do 4K but that's normally a $150 HDMI cable.

You would need one of the Crest Pro Series HDMI Cables to get proper 4K capabilities.

I have not tested any cable with 4K HD, but it really comes down to conductivity, as a direct result of wire gauge. If a cable has enough gauge, it can conduct well enough, and hence achieve the required bandwidth for 4K HD. It's not really rocket science, so I am not sure people have to buy expensive "Pro" cables for $150 to achieve it. Just like the $80 cables which Harvey Norman has been selling are unnecessarily expensive for Full-HD.
I have not tested this Crest cable, so I cannot say whether it does or doesn't support 4k HD. Take my view with several grains of salt. But it seems silly for them to put 4K UHD and 18Gbps on the box if it wasn't true. It's not like this is a complete no-brand.
