Kogan can't match online reseller's price

Hello Ozbargainers, as we have all found bricks & mortar stores are loath to or can't match online stores. now it appears online stores (kogan) can't match other online stores (DWI, Unique Mobiles etc.)

Me to Kogan:
DWI selling samsung galaxy S5 gold for $565 shipping $21. Kogan same phone $589 + shipping.
While we're at it, if I find a price from an online etailer will Kogan match / beat that price? Obviously I'm talking Australian etailers not overseas etailers such as amazon.

Kogan to Me:
Thank you for your enquiry.
We believe we have the best deals in the market and monitor all major retailers on a daily basis to ensure our deals are ahead of the competition.
On rare occasions you may find a product at a lower price than Kogan.com but you should ensure that you are checking all aspects of the offer including:
+Kogan.com provide comprehensive Australia wide warranty.
+Kogan.com provide a money-back guarantee.
+Kogan.com are a trusted Australian brand that has been around for nearly a decade.
+Kogan.com offer Australian based customer service and support.
+Kogan.com offer very fast dispatch and delivery
+Kogan.com offer competitive Australia wide delivery rates
If you believe that you have found a deal that satisfies your needs on all of the above points and the price is cheaper than Kogan.com, then you have found an amazing deal. Chances are it's a limited time only short promotion from the retailer so we suggest you snap it up! It has always been our mission to make technology affordable for all Australians, and not just a lucky few, and as such, we cannot match these short term deals.
With this being said, we are confident that we will have the Samsung Galaxy S5 (Gold) cheaper than our competitors in the future!
Kindest regards,
David

Me to Kogan:
Hi David,
So, in other words, no.
BTW unique mobiles have it cheaper again.
I have purchased several phones from kogan in the past but just as bricks & mortar stores feel the pressure from online only stores it is inevitable that online only stores will feel the pressure from other online only stores.
Guess I'll snap up a cheaper deal.

The funniest reply from Kogan:
Hi,
Thank you for your feedback.
We will pass this on to the appropriate department for you.
We are constantly striving to improve and your feedback is always appreciated.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions or comments.
Kindest regards,
Briana

Just buy it from DWI then? Why would you go through this hassle just to get it at the same price?

    • Yeah I got my One plus one from them and I am very happy with them. Especially now that I am going through the warranty process and it is pretty easy and kinda fast, in about 2 and a half weeks I contacted them, explained the problem, sent the phone away and revived the phone back.

One problem is the phone wasn't fixed properly (Screen was replaced but I'm still having ghost touches) but this is being solved as we speak.

  • yeah that whole paragraph has been given to me, just insert the product. However, the item strangely went down??

Kogan can't match online reseller's price

    ok…

    • If you had just purchased from DWI, then your product will probably have been shipped and on its way to you right now. I don't understand why this is an issue at all, if they don't want to price match, why make a big deal out of it, what do you even get out of it?

    • Kogan sells products at cheaper prices than competitors because of their business model. Their business model is highly dependant on the exchange rate fluctuations. Given the low value of AUD at the moment they must be running the business on low margins to remain competitive in the market. No wonder they don't want to price match.

Moreover I don't understand why you want to the buy the phone at the same price from Kogan when you can get Australian stock with fast shipping at the same price. If you mean to say price beat then I don't think Kogan has any price beat policy.

  • If it is below their cost, why harrass them?
Just remember some stores pay more rent than others.
Most of the Duopoly stores pay less rent than all the small business stores combined in the same shopping centres.

I'm as swift to berate poor service as the next person, but on this occasion I've got to give Kogan kudos.

They've managed to string multiple coherent sentences together in a positive and thoughtful way while at the same time saying no. They've also encouraged you to buy from the other seller, which is a clear signal that they aren't obligated to LOSE money on a deal just to make you happy.

OzBargain is all about bargain hunting. Your final reply to Kogan was childish, and getting angry about a retailer opting not to lose money on a transaction is closer to attempted extortion than bargain hunting.

No, I am not associated with Kogan, and have never purchased from them.
