Autism Essentials DVD Program - Final Sale - $245 (+ $15 Shipping) - Save $150 @ Connect Therapy

400

Hi Ozbargainers,

A very niche offer here… but thought it might be helpful to some. :)

We are a small Aussie business who for the last 10 years have produced training resources to assist families and professionals working with children with Autism.

We are phasing out our DVD resources in favour of online streaming, so we are discounting our remaining DVD stock.

We have never discounted this program before - so this is a genuine sale.

The Autism Essentials DVD Program retails for $395 but we are selling the last remaining copies for only $245 each… a saving of $150.

We have about 40 copies left…

Reminder - Australian residents may be eligible to use their HCWA funding to purchase the program.

PS: We understand that this will not be of interest to many of you, so please be kind :)

Edit: I should qualify that the $15 shipping is Express Post Australia wide. Shipping to international locations will attract higher fees.

Not applicable to our family, but +1 for selling a product that actually has some utility (and for the deal, of course).

Nope. My son has a mild austism so this would be very useful.

Thank you very much OP. Don't be discouraged to post things like this.

Is there something like this for ADD/ADHD? Or is it still too 'early'?

Something that doesn't involve filling with pills.

I would encourage anyone who feels something is "up" with their child to bring these concerns to a GP with referral to a diagnostic center. ASD is such a wide ranging disorder that it isn't possible to generalise a treatment / therapy strategy… e.g. a high functioning child with problems regulating emotion and maintaining eye contact is going to be very different to a child with severe sensory complications and an intellectual disability.

For those having to deal with ASD in the family, this might help bolster your bag of tricks, but I can't see the point in paying a lot of money for something that may or may not be be partially relevant when this would get 1 - 1.5 sessions of tailored therapy.

I wouldn't use this as a 'replacement' per se.

Instead, I would use this as a supplement to the therapies my son have been going to.

Sometimes in a therapy situation, you may not have the time (let alone what to ask sometimes) to ask questions as you would normally think with limited hours (like you said, 1 to 1.5 sessions), you would want to dedicate most of the time for the child.

This DVD would help fill some gap and probably addresses questions that you probably haven't thought about all along.

      PS: I ordered one btw.

Nevermind, it's a "g" not a "p". Anyone got the number for Specsavers?

        @burningrage
Yes. Correct. The program is intended to be used as a supplement to any therapy you may already be receiving. It has been designed to increase parents/carers knowledge of their child's unique autistic characteristics and to enhance their skills and confidence to carry out therapy in between sessions by making every interaction with the child a learning opportunity.
Thanks for your order too :)

    • As a highschool teacher in Penrith Valley, I would caution against trying to get an ASD or similar diagnosis purely on your own suspicion.

I cannot begin to tell you how annoying it is when a parent of a student with low academic ability decides on their own that their student has some sort of condition and goes to great lengths (often multiple specialists) to get a diagnosis. This more often than not results in the student who previously had no issues regarding behaviour to 'act' out under the pretence that their condition is the cause and that they can get away with being general idiots at school.

With this being said, not every student diagnosed on the autism spectrum 'breaks bad'. The most disappointing thing about these scenarios is that parents begin to demand special treatment and provisions for their child purely on the basis of their diagnosis, even if schools can't provide them.

I should also add, with the huge amount of time we spend with these kids we are often able to make referrals to see specialists and counselling or similar with empirical data we collect from school.

    • @airzone
Absolutely, first port of call should always be your GP followed preferrably by a developmental peadiatrician… a specialist who can properly identify the wide spectrum of symptoms.

This program is intended for families with a child who has already received a diagnosis of ASD.

Also, as you rightly mentioned, it's not about providing blanket strategies for all children on the spectrum. The program is about helping parents/carers/teachers etc to be able to identify the unique processing and learning styles of their child so that they can more effectively help tailor therapy to their specific needs.

And we agree that you can't beat professional therapy. That is our primary service. But by the same token 1-1.5 sessions of therapy doesn't necessarily get you very far. It might be enough to broadly assess the child, but much depends on the experience of the therapist and the knowledge of the parents. Most therapists are generalists that treat a wide range of disorders and dabble a little in Autism. Monique has been specialising in the field for 18 years and has trained hundreds of other professionals on the subject… and she is still learning every day!

So I'd suggest that 10 hours of her expertise is pretty good value at $245. Plus you can pause, rewind and watch the DVDs whenever you need to, something you obviously can't do with a live therapy session. :)

Happy to refund the $15 of you would like to arrange pick up. Saves us a trip to the post office :)
It just doesn't happen all that frequently.

I'll give you a call in the morning to arrange pickup.

      • Great. I might pick it up tomorrow (Friday) if that's ok?

BTW we've now added a customer pickup option to the checkout process. :)

    • Lol

  • Would this benefit a family with a child that had asbergers?

    • From the FAQ:

My child has Aspergers or high functioning autism. Is the program suitable for us?

      Yes certainly.
It does not matter whether your child has low or high functioning autism you will still need to help your child with the core issues of sensory processing, emotional development, thought processing in order to help your child learn in the most effective way possible.

Just because your child may be considered to be ‘high functioning’ it is still very important to go back and treat those underlying challenges that your child is experiencing, otherwise these problem areas will continue to interfere with their future learning to an even greater extent. Even if your child is high functioning they still require this assistance to help them reach their full potential.

The Autism Essential Program has been designed so that each family can tailor the program to suit the individual needs of their own child. At specific points in the DVDs I ask you to 'pause' the lesson and carry out particular exercises from your training manual to assess your child in a range of developmental areas. I then teach you specific therapy techinques to address each of these different challenges.

    • Thanks strangeloops66
Yes, it can certainly be beneficial for higher functioning kids, including those with Asbergers.

  • Can someone verify if this DVD program is any good? I am having a difficult time finding any decent reviews about parents that have used this with specific details on the techniques used. I'm not sure what kind of therapy this would cover such as ABA, Hanen Program, DIR/Floortime, etc. $250 is not too expensive but there are other resources I also want to get like the "More than words" book/DVD which is about $130 and buying all this stuff starts to really add up.

    • Hi Hank
I know you are looking for independent reviews that don't come from us.
      Here's one http://irishautismaction.blogspot.com.au/2009/10/teach-yours…

or… if you go to the product page and click on the reviews tab, there are a few more there. We promise they are genuine :)

The autism crowd can be a bit more private that most (understandably), especially if their child has only recently been diagnosed.

    • Oh, and over the years Monique has developed her own 'brand' of therapy but her main influences have been the Son Rise Program, DIR/Floortime and Sensory Integration.
