  Not sure how it can record 2 different tracks let alone 4 tracks if microphones are right next to each other.

  Did a quick google and it seems like the price doesn't seem like much of a bargain .
  First result in OZ was $2 dearer .

  The DR-40 I got was $183.80 delivered from Massdrop 6 weeks ago, there is a newer DR-40 Mark ll model in Japan
  supports larger 128 gig SDXC cards and can head/tail (add beeps start/end easier syncing to video) etc etc the new features
  Tascam said they will make the firmware version 2.0 available for DR-40 owners

  Tascam also has the DR-44WL which really supersedes the DR-40 as it has bluetooth (iPhone works Android early beta still)
