Assembling desktop PC at Umart or MSY

Hi guys,
I have a computer case with a new power supply. I plan to put in a new motherboard, CPU and etc but im afraid to do it myself. Will umart or msy do it for a fee if I buy the parts from them?

  • They used to, but appears they dont any more. I doubt they would have done it with parts bought elsewhere

  • In all the years I've purchased from them they've never assembled for free. Usually because it's a full service where they assemble and burn-in, so it's somewhat time consuming and they warranty the build. Always a good time to learn! PC assembly isn't too difficult - watch a few youtube videos and always ground yourself.

      he never said for free.
      He said for a "fee"

      • Sorry my bad, totally misread late in the evening.
Friend of mine popped by last week and said they still do assembly (MSY).
I believe it's around $100 mark for full build.

      • MSY in QLD was doing it for free for a while to celebrate their 8th anniversary.

But to answer the OP's question, most decent computer shops will build a system for you provided that all the parts come from them.
They are probably less likely to build it for you if the parts were provided — you could give them a damaged item and then claim they damaged it in the process of building your PC.

Best to call up the shop and see if they're willing to put stuff into a computer case for you. Most likely for customer service they'll happily oblige, but to protect themselves against possible fraud they may not.

      • umart were doing it for free also recently but all parts were purchased there

even though i know how to do it myself
i just let them do it because…well it was free so why not

My local MSY stopped assembling to stop the Ma' and Pa' purchasers from bugging them every saturday with issues.
I'm sure if you go into MSY they will have business cards for local guys who will assemble your machine.

Otherwise by a prebuilt system and sell off your existing case.

      this does not surprise me.

      bloody casuals

  • Try CCPU at carlingford, prices are quite competitive and they assemble.
I grabbed a PC there yesterday, parts for a basic build were 340, exact same parts at Msy were 322.

    • They were extremely rude when I asked them how much a build would be about a year or so ago. Good to hear that you have a better experience.

And neelesh, yes, most places will assemble for you, for a fee. I think it was about $70 or so at MSY last time I enquired? May have changed. I've also used Maco Technology in the past but that isn't applicable to you if you're in the Gold Coast. :)

    • CCPU aren't bad, I buy from them every now and then but it should be noted that OP is located on the Gold Coast :P

  • Thanks for your comments. Will call to check. Cheers
