I am surprised you cockroaches or mexicans didn't notice when you were crawling up here for vacation?!

Vacation??? Queenslanders are American…….Now it all makes sense :)

        • You seem to not understand the regional differences in word use in Australia. It has been this way for a long time, influenced by the groups who came to Australia and occupied different areas - long before recent influences of U.S. media.

Vacation (from late middle English, from the French, from Latin) is a perfectly valid term in Australian Engish. It has a different meaning to holiday, and is probably the correct term to use.

(Holy-days from which holiday is derived, are not common in secular Australia. So historically, holiday was used in a religious context. Holiday today is also associated with Gazetted public holidays, which often have nothing to do with "taking a holiday", but is close to the original use of the term - a day without work. Vacation is commonly used in Australia & UK in education settings to also describe periods with out students (vacation entrails leaving). So it's use also varies by settings.)

"Why build a desktop yourself when you have trained 'professionals' to do it for you?"

Because I honestly wouldn't trust them to do a great job of it. Also, I wouldn't want to buy every single part from them. :-)

Why do you think he put professionals in quotation marks? Because MSY's "building" can vary wildly in "quality".

      • Why do you think I said I wouldn't trust them?

    • Well, not everyone can build a computer, and my first time doing so required almost 4-5 hours of my time. A typical shop build fee ranges from $70 to $90.

Sure, to us experienced builders it's just a matter of being methodical, not losing screws and plugging the right cables and plugs in but not everyone has the technical aptitude to put a PC together and get it right the first time.

Now that it's temporarily a free service why not take advantage of it.

      • I'm not an expert either, but when I selected the parts for my first PC when I was 16 I paid for it to be built because I didn't know how. I regret that because in the 5 years I used that computer I never understood how it fit together inside.

      • I built my pc 8 months ago and it was my first attempt.
        worked perfectly.
there plenty of you tube vids on pc building.
only trouble i had was a few cables which took a 2min Google search to figure out what to do.
        it is really easy.
if you can work a screwdriver you can build a pc.

        • Yeah I know how now. It is pretty simple. That's why I think I made the wrong choice back then.

      • I think most people can just takes a very long time considering you would only build one or two every 2-5 years.

Please still pay people to do a system build?

Umart also offer free system build in SE QLD

  • I'm amazed at how crap MSY webpage is! Especially considering how long they have been around and the industry they are in.
I think they still survive off the Green guide ads (in Melbourne stores at least).

    • It's on purpose, the boss wants it to retain the style from the glory days

    • Well that crappy site design gets people discussing their business, would be minimal cost to maintain or update - so it works for them as it has a discount feel this business wants to portray.

      • meh, im not buyin it.

        • +2

You discussed it - so you already bought it ;-)
And we read or discussed it.

As advertising/ promotion it's working for MSY at no real cost. It's hard to forget the MSY site formatting - like fingernails on a blackboard. We associate slick sites with higher prices.

Companies like RyanAir in Europe make a virtue of their cheapness, leaking rumours of having to pay to use the toilet etc. Most would say they would never fly with them, but they never forget how cheap they must be - and the seats sell.

Would recommend budgetpc in Melbourne, cheapest parts and free build

    • As this is a Queensland only deal, why would you recommend a business so far away? Freight would likely kill the deal in Queensland. Different locations, different discount suppliers. Umart or MSY are almost walking distance away for me.

Recommendations/ discussions of cheap PC parts, build, etc is more appropriate in Forums. This is a deal as it is new time limited offer, but limited like the Umart deal to Queensland.
