Sneaky AMEX ends their deal early?

So I signed up for the AMEX Platinum Edge CC. $0 Annual Fee (First Year). Free Return Flight & 5000 Bonus Points.

As you can see in the post, this deal is supposedly available until today, 28 February 2015. Presumably the phrase "by 28 February" means people have until today to sign up right?

But I'm a little disappointed now as for some reason it doesn't seem to be available any more and there is no promise of a $0 annual fee for the first year. I had suggested this deal to a family member, and said to wait until I get mine so I can send them a referral and we can both get the bonus ~5,000 points.

Is it still available or has AMEX broken their promise?

    I've noticed that the free annual fee deal is gone. but they're giving 10000 points for signing up.

    To me "by 28 February" is until 23:59 on 27 Feb.

    I can understand why you would assume until 23:59 28 Feb, as it's the last day of the month.
