MH4U - 3Ds - OzBargain Hunting Parties

Hi all,

So, I said I was going to make some sort of group kind of thing for MH4U players on OzB so that we can help each other out and have fun with the game. The thing is, I have yet to figure out how to create a wiki page and as such… am posting it up here on the forum for now.

I've made a form on Google Drive… it follows the same layout as one I found on Reddit since it made the most sense…

Fill in this form if you wish to join =)

I haven't really played MH since MHFU on the PSP… I'm a little rusty myself… I mean seriously I got KO'd by a Vdrome twice before killing it in a guild quest… FFS T_T

For those of you that are interested and know how to make a Wiki for this… please help =)

Thanks!

ProjectZero

P.S. I have yet to fill in the form as I am currently not in front of my 3DS will do so when I am =)

Happy hunting everyone! Both in bargains and monsters… and sometimes both together =)

-EDIT 1-

So here is the file to view the information lol.

-EDIT 2-

Just so you know, I've allowed for editing for those with the link so you can change your weapons choices if you decide to switch to another playstyle

  • Nice :D Hmmm, since I am so awful that I am having a problem hunting a Gypceros without extra potions :'( I won't be joining here… Though it is actually really interesting to see this happening.

    • +1

      Lol join anyway… Like I said… KO'd by a Vdrome… that has never happened to me until now… I'm getting sloppy =(

Also, If i remember my Gypceros fights from MHFU, he is exactly like the YKK, so practice on the YKK if you can… should be an easier fight since there isn't poison involved.

      • Yeah, I feel bad because I've used to kill Gypceros like there's no tomorrow for their poison sacs… :P I've spent 10s of hours just slaying Gypceros because I wanted that one hand sword/axe you can create with poison sacs… I think it must be the lack of Ioprey stages before this that makes it hard for me to kill Gypceros.

p.s. How cool are those switch axes? My last MH game was Monster Hunter Freedom for PSP and there are so many new weapons now on 3DS :D

        • I'm more partial to the CB myself… It's basically SnS BUT with added POWAH!

btw, i think the difficulty for the monsters in this is slightly adjusted to be harder… since they have new move list and I swear to god the movements are more fluid… possibly because of the better hardware allow for better animation and stuff.

        • @ProjectZero: True… Wait, I meant the one that turns into axe and a giant sword. Sorry, the names of the weapons do confuse me. Though I am better with destroying parts with hammer, I have to say.

Yeah, I think the monsters have become more annoying. I really don't wanna fight Rathalos now :(

        • @AznMitch:

Nah that's the switch axe you're talking about, I tried it and It's not bad… but i like to have a bit of defense like a shield for those oh shit moments.

I only ever had issues fighting the elder dragons… never could kill them myself…

        • @ProjectZero: Ohhhh, I've heard that they are hard to master. I sorta wussed out from using them because of that. Though I do agree, the switch axes are really hard to use with enemies that constantly attack without gaps between their attacks, i.e. Gypceros. Well at least my impressions on them are that atm.

        • @AznMitch: Oh my god you guys. I'm using charge blade right now and my armor has auto guard and guard up. THIS SAVES LIVES. Oh hello Brachydios NO BRACHYDIOS DON'T PUNCHEXPLODE ME NOOOOOO Block :3 Oh

Also, later levels in singleplayer have a guy that multiplies certain items. The element sacs are ones of these, so don't waste too much time grinding :3

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

That wycoon guy right? I can only multiple herbs and shrooms atm… need to level up my ranks >.<

        • @ProjectZero: Nah, there's a little midget later on that makes copies of things in exchange for frenzy crystals.

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

Thats a long way off for me then. I just did the first Urgent Quest lol.

Anyway… guess there is only three of us on OzB that play this game lol…

        • @ProjectZero: Wouldn't surprise me, given the number of people who want to buy Xbone and PS4s, AKA people who know nothing about videogames. But seriously, Monster Hunter is pretty hardcore, especially since most people give up after the third mushroom gathering quest, lol, which is before the first big monster fight. This Monster Hunter game is actually lot more tame, in terms of difficulty and THERE ARE ACTUALLY WEAPON TUTORIALS! :O! The learning and difficulty curve is really comfortable.

And then you get to High Ranks quests and LOL here's a Brachydios that one hits you, during a frenzy danger capture quest. Geegee. Not even up to G yet :| But I know it's going to be horrific.

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

hahaha i was one of those that gave up after the third mushroom gathering quest… then I gave it another go during the PSP days and it was glorious!

It's just slightly less hardcore compared to the Souls series… except you can craft traps and stuff and you don't get crazy strong by grinding.

        • @ProjectZero: I don't agree. Dark Souls is easy compared to MH. Especially Dark Souls 2, which was almost pathetic compared to Dark Souls 1, which was amazing. I feel that Dark Souls is just a little less hardcore than Monster Hunter, because as you said, you can just grind for ages, or summon a spirit to help you beat the boss. Plus you can just breeze through the game by doing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UdcKGWmZMs

Monster Hunter fights are supposed to be more about fun, intensity and situational awareness, than say, fighting 2 gargoyles whilst under attack by a spirit invader atop a needlehead-wide ledge, whilst getting sniped by mages and poisoning darts.

Not to mention, being a ranged attacker in DS makes the game hugely exploitable, whereas Monster Hunter makes you a very delicious easy target. I saw a really good bowman yesterday, but he was definitely a glass cannon. Khezu was all "RAR!" and he was all "Urist McBowman has fainted"

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

Lol at the bow user… I can't do range MH if I'm by myself… its just horrible, the aim in the game is so crap. Even with the c-stick it's terrible.

        • @ProjectZero: I don't mind the bowguns, but it'd definitely be easier with dual sticks. I just don't get the bow at al. Also the gunlance. I know gunlance is something you could effective use by yourself…. But it's like…. HOW DOES THIS EVEN WORK!?

When you get to mid game, it becomes too late to experiment with new weapons, so gunlance will always escape me.

        • @FrankMcFuzz: Personally, the Gunlance is the same with the CB to me.

It is the same weapon as a SnS or in the Gunlance's case, a lance, but it offers a massive amount of damage when you have a chance to use. a.k.a. Wyvern fire

I noticed you know how to play a lance, so it might be worth a try switching to a gunlance. Forget about the shelling… just go at it normally but when it's trapped or downed for abit wyvern fire it.

        • @ProjectZero: That charge shot is amazing. Free stun if it's pinned, distracted, or otherwise preoccupied. The jump in the lance charge is the feature I use the most, which makes the gunlance lose its main method of quick mobility and mounting, which is bad. I just don't want to use some materials I'm still using, just in case it's not that good.

        • @FrankMcFuzz: I'm personally still tossing up between CB and SA myself… I'm already pretty decent with SnS from my MHFU days… just relearning some of the newer stuff. DB is basically SnS with faster attacks. I prefer hit and run tactics so the Sns, DB and CB seem to suit me more as there is great mobility in all three of them.

When I want to learn a weapon, I usually go back to the early stages and hunt those guys.

        • @ProjectZero: Advanced SnS tactics: If you X and A toward an step-up-ledge, you will do a big lunging launch attack into the air. Not many other weapons have this ability though, and I started to rely on it too much.

The Charge Blade has a great knock up launch for allies online, but I can never get them to stand still long enough to launch them. I was using GS for a while and everyone got mad because I kept launching them in the wrong direction. Whoops.

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

Lol didn't know you can launch people, always played offline because no one had MH during the PSP days.

        • @ProjectZero: Infamous launchers are the hammer and the greatsword. Longswords attack arcs are so wide that you'll get knocked down heaps alongside an LS user. Accidents do happen!

        • @FrankMcFuzz: Hey mate, when do we unlock that midget that makes copies of parts? Just got to Cheeko sands… so many items that I CBF grinding for… e.g. those dambn malachite ores…

        • @ProjectZero: You can't do that with ore AFAIK. Is pretty useless tbh. He's in Cathar anyway, you need to do some quests to unlock it.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: What Cake said. As I said previously, he's mostly used for multiplying sacs and amulets. Machalite ores are pretty common in the Jungle, so try there.

        • @FrankMcFuzz: I suppose I'll just have to grind for mach ores… I personally try to avoid all gathering quest since they're boring lol.

Btw, I got the nerscylla sword, funny SnS as it puts even the nerscylla to sleep lol. Now I need to get my hands on the 2 firestone to get scaly sword+ so I don't bounce back from the Zamtrios

        • @ProjectZero: That is now the sword that you will use for the rest of the game. lol.

        • @ProjectZero:

          Pro tip:

Sleep + Bomb = massive damage. Much more than regular bombing. Only the first damage done to a monster when sleeping is multiplied so be sure to drop two Large Bombs (+ if possible) and then throw a paintball to set them off. The monster will be paintballed and the damage will be massive.

Also, stop hating gathering. Its a massive part of MH. Whenever I fight I stop and mine every spot I can. I have at least 500 of every type of ore.

        • @Where's_That_Cake:

Sleep + Bomb = massive damage.

Lol didn't think of that… never really carry bombs because I didn't see a good way to use them. Might give this a shot lol. Btw, do the palicos attacks on the monster when it is sleeping count as first hits?

          Also, stop hating gathering.

I really just don't like having too light a pack during most of my hunts and as such, I can't mine enough and I usually have to give up on some items to make room for ores and stuff.

I only pack the essentials and even then there isn't enough space in my bag >.<

        • @ProjectZero: Psh. I pack all the stupid stuff (HORNS, BABY! GOTTA TAKE EVERY KIND OF HORN!) and still have ample room. The trick is to justdrop the map and first aid pots when you get too full, and other associated account items.

Palicos don't attack a monster when it's mounted/asleep, save for maybe one or two accidents. Konchu/Jaggi/Etc attacks DO count as the 'triple damage wake up' hit, so try to keep them clear.

Also, if you take too long, the monster heals even when you put them to sleep with an effect like this. But sleep + 2 L+ bombs is enough to break horns and claws and such if you're going for location damage.

        • @FrankMcFuzz: Lol now I'm curious…

I have 4 presets for my items.

Gathering has pots, well done steak, gathering equips (rod, pick axe and net) and that is all.

Expedition is the same with gathering with the added paintball

Hunting is pots, well done steak paintball and whetstones

Capture is the same as hunting with the added tranq and traps.

for gathering I run around to every location and gather from every source… that might be why I run out of space lol. I usually keep the map as I always think if i met a monster I wouldn't be able to remember how to get to it when it runs away.

        • @ProjectZero: I normally trust the field pouch for my items, and just make sure I have a page spare before I leave. I have 2 pages of items on me at all times lol.

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

I have 2 pages of items on me at all times lol

lol da hell? What do you carry lol.

Btw, we have enough people to start 2 4 man hunting parties, I personally haven't done any guild quests yet so I won't be joining (been trying to finish the story with the caravan quests). You guys could organise for some hunting =)

        • @ProjectZero: I carry.

          10 Mega Potions
          10 Antidotes
          10 Well Done Steaks
          20 Whetstones
          20 Paintballs
          2 Max Potions
          1 Ancient Potion
          3 Lifecrystals
          Shock Trap
          Pit Trap
          10 Sonic Bombs
          5 Flash Bombs
          8 Tranqs
          Health Horn
          Antidote Horn!
          DEMON HOOOOOOOORN
          5 Mega pickaxes
          5 Mega Bug nets
          2 L+ Bombs
          4 Hot drinks
          4 Cold drinks

          GOTTA BE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING!

        • @FrankMcFuzz: lol… cycling through that mid fight would be a b***h

        • @ProjectZero: Oh, wait, I forgot 4 Hot drinks and 4 cold drinks! Edited for maximum efficiency ;D Not like what I carry lol that crap ain't efficient.

        • @FrankMcFuzz: I don't carry anywhere near that.

          I carry:

          10 Mega Pot
          10 Pot
          10 Honey
          2 Max Pot
          3 Mega Dash Juice
          5 Mega Pickaxe
1 Mega Bugnet (will be discarded if needed)
          1 Pit Trap
          1 Shock Trap
          3 Paintballs
          4 Tranqs
          5 Flash

          Optional:
(If unstable G rank 3 Dung bombs)
          (If hot/cold 3 drinks)
(If online 3 life powder and 2 life dust)
(If sleep weapon 3 Bomb L and 2 Bomb L+)
(If Purple Gyp or Garuga 10 Antidotes, All other poisons are weak and I ride them out and am rarely hit)

        • @Where's_That_Cake:

So after hearing about the Bomb L and Bomb L+ I decided to try them last night… really effective at killing but the low rank monsters aren't strong enough to take the blast without it dying a few minutes later lol.

Guess I'll stay away from Bombs for now.

        • @ProjectZero: Yeah, save em. I'm at the point where monsters decimate you if they get 3 quick hits in. :| AND I'M EXPERIMENTING WITH CHARGE BLADE AGAIN, and I ran out of money upgrading weapons to try. And SnS is still the best xD lol

        • @FrankMcFuzz: What I found to work with charge blade, at least for low ranks, is that you mount them and knock them down, then wail on them with the axe elemental burst.

Or if you are a risk taker like me… just spam a burst where you think the monster is gonna stop when they are charging at you. dumb move but if you judge it right it works lol.

        • @ProjectZero: How do you get the weapon to glow red? I did it twice, but people online do it all the time.

        • @FrankMcFuzz: That's charging your shield right?

          To do it

          1) fill up phials
          2) go into axe mode and do a burst
          3) before the burst is unleashed press R to go to sword form
          4) the shield should start glowing red

          optional
          5) charge up phials again asap
          6) go into axe mode and do burst

The optional part makes the burst stronger and uses all the phials you saved up in one go. So you can chain into it

          Sword mode

          x > x > R+x

          Axe mode

a > a > a massive damage from it. Although for the monster to stay stationary for that long is pretty hard… you will need to use traps to land it or be very good at reading the monster.

          -edit-

In SnS mode, when you are glowing red, it ups defence to match the defence of the lance.
In axe mode, it increases the damage by 20% from what I read.

        • @ProjectZero: Well, that Phial consume thing sounds uber helpful. If you do it right, that's 2:30 of super defense with a window for massive axe damage.

Now to only flip over the Daimiyo Hermitaur FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE

(The Hermitaur is a giant enemy crab…)

I find the best combo is X+A to lunge, X+A to do the shield-jab, and then X+A to do the axe charge slash whilst in sword mode, without having to change. The 3 X+A combo!

:| I am scared that, now this is a handheld game and I can take it anywhere, that I am never going to stop playing this game. I got to 135 hours this morning and they went "Cool, here's a new gameplay mechanic! And some new monsters!" Nnngggghhhh…..

Will fill in the form when I've got my 3DS in front of me! Might help some folks catch up because I'm grinding quick quests for cat armour and wycoon stuff right now. Don't ask :|

    • Lol I'm still at G rank 1… haven't played much just bumming around testing weapons and getting used to the CB

      • Wait, so, do we view the form somewhere to add each other's Friend Codes? xD If the answer is "Yes I posted it/it's in that link" iunno how to work it. Lol.

        • Good point… Never tried it so I wasn't sure if you can see it after you've submitted it… will post the link to the Excel as well… its all on Google drive lol

        • @ProjectZero: Yeah. Coz I'm trying playing with randoms. Guy joins, dies 3 times in the first ten minutes :| And it's too hard to abuse him with the little keyboard and tiny word space. lol

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

LOL remind me never to play with you =P I'll get abused so hard lol.

btw, isn't there a voice chat thing since the 3ds has a mic?

        • @ProjectZero: Nah, there is no voice chat.

        • @FrankMcFuzz: Welp thats crap >_>

I'll sign mine up tonight when I get home =)

        • @ProjectZero: As soon as I posted what my weapons are, I upgraded an old charge blade with red khezu and now it's amazing. So. xD Using charge blade now.

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

Nice I finally got my first set of armor… Those vdromes are no match once I swap for a fast weapon

        • @ProjectZero: Lol. Everyone is a sword and shield user. I don't like to use the same weapon as others online, see: "That bitch wore the same dress as me!" so I'll be mixing up my weapons lol ;D

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

Well that is true but I stick to my basics all the time… must be why I have a hard time kiling elder dragons… not enough DPS lol

        • @ProjectZero: Kirin is the worst elder dragon. Kirin for class dunce.

        • @FrankMcFuzz: I still can't see Kirin as an elder dragon as it is tiny and it's relatively weak… I got to the wind barrier dragon in the grassy hill area of MHFU and I got KO'd ine 5 secs… that's how an elder dragon should be lol

    • I think I'm at around 140+ hours at the moment. I'm HR53, wife is up to the HR7 urgent and my 8yo is HR5.
I've been playing over at WP mostly, pretty big community over there. Spent many hours just helping others through but it's time I went GRank I think.

      • Well aparrently I'm doing something wrong, coz I'm at 140 and I'm at HR7 :3 But I just got the SUPER FINAL END CREDITS this morning.

        • Yeah I had those credits and HR7 isn't far from 53. Once you've gotten past the HR7 urgent you'll be around the same.

        • @Where's_That_Cake:

Man you guys are flying through that… I'm still having started the volcano area yet lol.

        • @ProjectZero:
I like the monster hunter ;)

        • @Where's_That_Cake: I like to hunt the monts too :3

        • @FrankMcFuzz: HR55 GRank now

        • @Where's_That_Cake: and not HR56 G2 :)

        • @Where's_That_Cake: Still HR7 >:| ALL THESE PEOPLE WANT TO DO IS AKANTOR. OVER AND OVER AGAIN. STOP IT. STOP DOING AKANTOR

        • @FrankMcFuzz: Lol. Finally finished, and it just goes "Lol, you're rank 20. Just kidding, rank 30. NAH M8, rank 40. HAHAHA you thought I was serious, rank 50"

          Um. Okay, lol.

        • @FrankMcFuzz: Nice, helped my wife get through last night as well. She's now HR35 G1.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: I'll probably figure it out eventually, but humour me. How do I get the G? By slaying that Ukanlos thingy or by doing singleplayer til they send me up the stairs?

        • @FrankMcFuzz: I became G after solo'ing Ukanlos. I have seen people saying it takes around 17 hours of play between unlocking HR's and G but I went straight there as did the wife so I'm not sure if you need to be over a certain HR or not. As I said, the wife is only HR mid 30's and she's G1. I'm now HR60, almost G3.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: I'm 54, because the ranking up was retroactive, thank god, and went for completion on all the guild quests. Still missing heaps of 3's, 5's and 6's. But I'll do Ukanlos today and see if I get my coveted G.

  • +1

Aiite thats me signed up =)

  • Signed up, let the hunting begin!

  • Sweet more people to play with… still need to get around to adding you guys on my list lol

  • I just signed up! :>

  • OhSnappo it says your FC is invalid? also Alex you posted your phone number but no FC? :)

  • So i added you guys last night (Logix), but couldn't seem to add D4V3YD91 and djiordje properly… Could seem to find it via the internet adding option.

  • I've personally never tried this before, but have always wondered… anyone ever try to use a pitfall trap on a small monster (by that I mean Great Jaggi or Vdrome)? Does it work… I personally like the shock traps better so I've always used those when I can.

    • Pitfall work on most monsters yes. There are a few who will destroy it though and there are a few who are immune to the shock trap. Also be aware that the more you use a certain type of trap on a monster in a fight the quicker it will escape it.

If you intend to use traps to deal damage and then again to capture a monster its a good idea to use the other type as itll give you more time to tranq it.

      • Cheers, I've only really used a trap to capture never to do damage so should be ok.

        Thanks for the tip.

  • I've added my details, but I don't know where to find the Friend code… help?

    • Go to your friends list on your device and it should be under your own friends card.

      Visual guide

Wasn't sure if i was using the correct terms for the things I was describing =)

      • Hmmm, how do you edit the file?
        I've found my code :D

        • I believe you need to log into the google account you used when you entered your details.

This is the first time I've actually used google drive and spreadsheets so I'm not too sure how it all works.

        • @ProjectZero: Hmmm, it's still not letting me edit…

4485-0997-5382, I think you'd know which one is mine anyways.

        • @AznMitch: lol I logged in just now so I'll edit it in for ya.

          -edit-
          Done.

        • @ProjectZero: Yay :D Thanks.

        • @AznMitch: Keep in mind, that you need to add everyone as well. Nintendo didn't know how online worked until late 2013 and they're still yet to implement common sense on 3DS.

So you need to write in the individual friend codes of everyone on that list into your "Friend registration" on the 3DS friend section, and hope that they put yours in too.

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

Nintendo didn't know how online worked until late 2013

Lol, so thats why it didn't work when I put some of the friend codes in…

        • @ProjectZero: They fixed the online system for the Wii-U when they implemented Miiverse, but it's still something to be greatly desired.

If the name and code pops up at the end of your registered friends as a grey smiley face, and not as a mii, then they haven't registered you yet.

        • @FrankMcFuzz: Lol thats a pretty big fail on nintendo's part… when you register, it should send a notification to the other person… it's only normal right…

        • @ProjectZero: Right. The Wii-U does that. But it's still the dark ages for 3DS. Wouldn't want any non-consensual friend adding now, would we. What if they ACCIDENTALLY clicked the Accept button? Why, then they'd need to manually delete them! And that would waste precious seconds.

        • +2

@FrankMcFuzz: IKR… time that could be spent on hunting monsters XD

  • Guys, the Link weapon and armor is out as a DLC. Now to get better gear so I can go hunt for it =)

    • I found that out when literally every G room changed to "Doing event quests" on sunday morning xD

      • I really want that armor… but I doubt I can kill those monsters w/o a good element SnS… freaking celestial sword is piss weak…

        • The nerscylla sword and shield is ridiculously overpowered. You get it white sharpnes before you even get to High Rank.
