oh crapo, i already have the fee free for life and id imagine alot of ozbargainers have it too

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/175099
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/153092

    can i apply for another

    • Yep. I literally just got my no-fee-for-life card, so missed out.

    • This one has an annual fee after 1 year, so, eh. I'd forget it. The no annual fee for life card is much better

      • The likelihood of being offered free for life after requesting cancellation are quite high, I'd say.

  • Thank you OP - the muncans can now fly first class to Dubai for free :-)

    • How many pts do you need to fly Dubai First Class? :)

      • +3

It varies, and good luck finding available rewards seats - the seats we found are 144k points (+ $394.31 taxes) each from Melb on an A380.

    • plus tax ??

      • Yep plus tax.

    • Glad someone else can benefit :)

      • Oh wait. That's 60,000 bonus CitiBank points. Not Qantas points :-(

        • Yes, that's right. Not sure how the two compare.

        • Pretty sure it's Qantas points if you opt for Qantas (+$49).

EDIT maybe not - says nothing about the free points being Qantas.

        • Oh wait (again). Yes the bonus points are likely CitiBank Rewards only, however won't they all convert to QFF points at the end of the month if you sign up for $49?

Your points will automatically be transferred to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program each month
          https://www.citibank.com.au/aus/credit_cards/qantas_rewards.…

Though I'm note sure if 1 Rewards point = 1 QFF point.

      • Ive just been on the line with CITIBANK and this is only available to Citi at Work clients. That is why the Apply link isnt working properly.

There is an annual fee for the other cards. This post is a litle misleading woozie3. Do some research before you post it!

        • Very annoying :/ I already put my application in (figuring there were no annual fees since none were mentioned, even though the rewards points changed) and then went back and checked the "additional information" link which states that there is a $199 annual fee the first year and $395 thereafter.

        • Kind of glad I didn't rush in this time. Those first class seats to Dubai will have to wait.

        • All I can say is that at the time I posted, it was most definitely not a targeted offer (I don't even know what Citi at Work is) and the Apply button was working. I reckon Citibank updated their offers more recently.

          Edit-
I just went back to their site and they've definitely changed it. Now the no annual fee for the first year is no longer available. They must've realised their error.

        • @woozie3: I rang them too, and they asked where I got the link from. Uhh, from your website?
          Thanks woozie, still loves ya.

  • -2

Hope Citibank don't pull an Amex move on us.

    • Actually, Amex honoured the $0 for the first year rate.

  • So essentially 45,000 velocity points?

    • 40,000

      • Whoa. How do you change to the velocity programme with Citibank? I can only see Citibank rewards or qantas.

        • You just redeem points (blocks of 10,000 Velocity) to your FF number. It's not locked in like Qantas.

  • -1

    Not a lot for $299 a year

    • It's $0 in the first year. 40,000 Velocity (or Krisflyer) points + 2 x priority pass + 6 months 0% balance transfer/cheque to self - that's a cracking deal!

      • The 40,000 Velocity or Krisflyer points are the most valuable part of this deal. Priority passes are worthless in Australia because only 1 or 2 lounges support them. Also the 6 month 0% balance transfer is short compared to Coles/Woolies 18 month 0% balance transfer.

  • how much is 40k velocity points worth.

    • Would probably get you one way to Singapore.

      • -3

        So not worth it

  • I'm looking for a good card with $0 annual fee and balance transfer at 0% for as long as possible, what's the best card deal atm??

    • How's your credit rating?

      • I would assume very good since I always pay my bills/credit cards on time…

        • If you earn $75k+, the Signature is $0 for life, through the Vedascore. You'll get an initial 9 months BT. Once you pay it off, just tell them you want to close the account to get a BT elsewhere. They'll quickly agree to send you another cheque, for 12 months in all likelihood.

If that doesn't suit, I think the Coles Mastercard will give you a good BT, though it's pretty shite for rewards and perks.

          http://www.citibank.com.au/credit_cards/vedascore-offer.htm?…

          The Citibank will

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

The expiration date on that link is 28 Feb 2015 though. The same deal will probably come round again.

        • @woozie3:

          Where did you read that?

I read at the bottom this

Your total balance transfers may not exceed 80% of your credit limit. The 0% p.a. interest rate on the Citibank Rewards Credit Card - Signature card applies for the first 9 months on balances you transfer with this offer at point of this application. At the end of the promotional period any outstanding transferred balance will revert to Citibank Rewards Credit Card - Signature variable Annual Percentage rate for cash advances, currently 21.74% p.a. This offer ends 31 March 2015. New credit card customers only.

        • @Cardz:
Interesting. I might be wrong. I clicked on the "How long do I have before this offer expires?" bit a little further up.

        • @woozie3:
Right you are.. Not the first Citi-Bank error we have seen :)

  • Definitely considering getting this, but out of curiosity:

    • I already got the coles flybuys 20k deal the other day
    • I already have a huge credit limit on a free rewards card (through another Citi white labelled card incidentally - but not directly with citi)
    • Unclear to me at what point you tend to be able to leave this kind of deal but still get max benefit (is it literally 365 days - 1 day)
    • Not sure what 60,000 citi points even means :)

So much to consider but I'm sure the friendly ozbargainers will know :)

  • So what do you think is better? Free for life with no points, or 60,000 points and free for first year then cancel?

    • Free for life…

    • +3

Points, get gift cards, then leave for the next one that comes along!

    • +2

The main advantage of the free for life is $1 = 1 Velocity/kris point conversion rate anyway. You can easily get 0.5 point per $1 elsewhere on Visa/Mastercard.. so the advantage is 0.5 point per $1.

40,000 bonus points is $80,000 worth of spending all at once. So if you spend say $10k a year on Visa (the rest on higher points Amex).. then that would take you 8 years to match the bonus points offer. Realistically in a couple of years things would change and there would be a better deal with another bank anyway.

So definitely the bonus deal is better for most people.

  • +3

You can get a $350 visa gift card for 64,200 points

    • That's enough reason to go through the rigmarole to get this card!

    • +1

If you want instant cash in hand then get gift cards for the points. Otherwise accrue the points and use them to upgrade when you next fly, it works out to be significantly better value than cashing them in for anything material or monetary.

Has anyone actually applied for this yet ?
Once you follow that link and hit APPLY, it links you to a card with 80,000 QANTAS points but WITH an annual fee of $199.
Does anyone have APPLY link for the actual deal that this OP has posted?

    • Strange i'm seeing the same too
      80,000 bonus Qantas Points
can't see the $199 fee though
      i see this though:

      Application Criteria:
You are at least 18 years of age
You have a good credit rating
You earn a taxable income of $75000 per year or more
You are a permanent Australian resident
You have an email address that you can provide with your application. We
will use this email address to deliver your statement notifications electronically
Click here for key facts about this credit card
Important Information: If you apply for a balance transfer, your total
balance transfers may not exceed 80% of your credit limit

      • IT's in the 'click here for key facts' link

  • Id imagine a good chuck of us would have signed up a year ago:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/123330

  • Using the apply link provided:

    • It takes you to an application page where it shows a card and says 80,000 bonus Qantas points
    • It then will not let you select the Qantas rewards program.

I called Citibank and they are not aware of the offer and can only offer 50,000 Qantas points and you have to pay the $299 fee… They also said that Citibank Rewards Points cannot be transferred to Qantas points.

    Haven't applied

Think the citibank website doesn't know whether it is Arthur or Martha.

  • Hi
I can't find where it says "If you are an existing Citibank Credit Card customer, you must have held your current Citibank account for at least 9 months before you can apply for another credit card."

Indeed we applied for the free for life a year ago, but I wouldn't mind 40k VA points for free.

  • So is it 60,000 Citibank Rewards points or 80,000 Qantas points? If it's the latter that's a pretty amazing deal.

  • I'm a little confused, if someone could please clarify -> If you were to pay the $49 for the Qantas program, do you get 60,000 QFF points instead of the Citibank points???

  • How do you convert these into velocity points?

    • go into rewards, then it should be a link to airline programs.

this is 1.5 points to 1 velocity point fyi

Well said, Unless your workplace has a deal with Citi at Work, you cant apply for this promo

  • spoke to chat, apparently the page going to the 80,000 qantas points is an error and will be resolved shortly.

  • When you press Apply Now it's no longer free first annual fee

  • +1

Honestly even with the error… 80,000 QF points for $199 for the first year is still good if your trying to return business class flights!!!

A word of caution with Citibank … I applied for a Citibank deal in December 2014 and finally got a card, but not the card I applied for in Feb 2015. Be aware even if you meet criteria you may be approved and sent a different card with different terms and conditions to the one you applied for. I'm not saying don't try, just be aware that you may have to make a few calls and send letters to get what you want. See other OB comments re the deal I applied through to: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/175099

  • Just to confirm, rang them, was told only free for Citi at Work customers. Cancelled my application.

    • question is.. what is Citi at Work? A bunch of employers who give their staff access to deals with Citibank? Tried to google around and see which employers to see if some us work for em!

      • It's probably if the company works for banks with Citi or something along those lines.

The company I work for has a similar deal with Commonwealth Bank.

  • I think my workplace has access to Citi at work, which should I get:
    A. Signature card with the bonus 80k Qantas points ($199 1st yr, then $395 after that)
    or
    B. Signature card free for life offer

FYI - I want to do a 0% BT as well as the cheque to self thing for offset account…

    Thanks

    • My workplace also has access to Citi at work. When I rang the citi call centre, they know nothing about this offer…. They keep saying $299 first year and 60K points. I talked to several people as they transfer the call so many times. spent 40 min on the phone and I cancelled my application at the end! They offered me another 20k points + 60 points. I still cancelled it. Terrible experience.

      • DOH! I just applied 2 days ago…guess I better call them…but I saved the webpages just so i got proof of the 80k QFF points that it mentioned.

        • They know about 60k rewards points, but they knew nothing about 80k Qantas points. You'd better check with them if you need Qantas points.

        • so did they confirm it is 60k rewards points or 80k qantas points?

        • @runamuck: I've heard nothing from them…(facepalm)
