Motorhome Hire - Advice Please - Insurance & Discount

Hi :-) me, hubby + 2 kidlets going to Tasmania December. We want to hire a motorhome December 17-24. Is it best to get travel insurance that covers the hire?? Any recommendations?

Currently looking at autorent.com.au 2-5 berth Twin cab motorhome, $1075 for 7 days hire… There is a special offer or rate code (promo code) section …couldn't find any that worked :-/ Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not used to not having no promo code to enter… TIA anyone with ANY ideas for out Motorhome trip to Tassie this Xmas :-)

We drove one around NZ for a week. It was great fun, but the big hulking vehicle was easy to nudge into parking bollards and the like. We ended up with a foot long scar of paint from a very minor collision at a petrol station and I was glad to have the insurance cover. Even though I am a very experienced and careful driver. If I did it again I would make sure I had top, low excess insurance. For context I have made two claims for normal driving in 25 years and never had more than a minor accident, so I usually skip the extra insurance on normal hire cars.

yes, definitely get travel insurance. It's by far the cheapest way of avoiding the hefty excess reduction fee that the hire companies charge. Best price with good inclusions that we found when we did Tassie at the end of 2013 was Aust Post travel insurance, and the premium for a full 12 months wasn't that much higher than just to cover the time we were going away. I tend to travel away a couple of times a month, so was covered for those trips for a year at very little extra cost.
